If you actually believe that, then I expect you returned BF2 when they adjusted some of the weapons and vehicles, and will never buy another game from DICE again.

And you will also have to return Crysis and boycott Crytek from now on, as their latest patch will be modifying certain weapons and damage.

TF2 recently adjusted how much ammo you get from dropped weapons, so you'll have to give Valve a pass as well.

It's your prerogative of course, but it's not a realistic expectation that features in games won't be adjusted over time.

Not to mention CoDUO when the patch came out that drastically changed sniping. Many were mad, others liked it, and others didn't care. Gaming still went on with the game. If enough people want a change, it's not unprecedented that the developers will give the majority what they want.

Assuming their original intent is still there. The issue with martyrdom is mixed right now, but giving a logical solution, such as the one explained in the first post in this topic, won't stray away from their ideas of martyrdom.. it will just cut down on how much of it there is. Makes sense, no? If you really stayed alive enough to run out of bullets and grenades and you die, well.. there would be no point for that martyrdom grenade really. On the other hand, if you are a player that dies a lot, it will benefit them. If they spam instead, it won't benefit them as much unless they save that one grenade.

Martyrdom is, for me at least, the most annoying thing in CoD4 MP. I can get through the nade spam, getting sniped through walls, idiots jamming doors, and people standing on top of your sniping spot, firing their SAW all over the place. But then you get some opfor dying in the middle of everyone and then killing half the people because the other fools won't get out of the door. There's almost nothing you can do to prevent it, and virtually every time I try and throw it away, it explodes in my face. At least something like this would force players to pick between their nade spamming habits or their martyrdom grenade.

BF2 isn't the best example to use here, lol.

The reason that it's a bad idea to change Martyrdom more than doing small adjustments like extending the fuse is that then people would want the GL nerfed, then the P90 nerfed, then knifing nerfed, then claymores nerfed, then airstrikes nerfed, then helis nerfed, then C4 nerfed, ect.

Lt Davis you could say the same thing with any patch that is releases, with most other perks/weapons they are acceptable, more require at least a little bit of skill to use them effectively, all you have to do with martyrdom is run into the enemy. :)

Martyrdom should be tied in with your grenade counter. Of course, the likelyhood of IW changing this aspect of the game while leaving the consoles alone is fairly low. Unless they make big changes all across the board, don't expect something like this...

We're wasting bandwidth on a modification they won't make. :)

So, to defeat Martyrdom, do not run into the enemy. Problem solved.

Would work... if the range wasn't greater than how far you can run when inside a BUILDING!

Running away from marty = running away, making it so you can't fire (because you're running), and exposing yourself in the open.

It's a lose lose situation with marty.

It's like playing rock paper scissors and you pull out a nuke... or something like that.

What if you are in Soviet Russia, and the enemy runs into YOU?

That is the way modern warfare works. Listen, there were plenty of Iraqi tankers wanting to get it on with the US tank forces. They were lined up and ready to battle it out honorably (presumption) with the US tanks.

Then, our aircraft swept in and obliterated them. Not fair. I'm pretty sure that they called "shenanigans" and "hax" on us for that.

You guys want a level playing field AND realism at the same time. Why? Warfare by it's very nature is asymetric. When both sides are equal or nearly equal in power, there normally is not a state of active warfare, but detente.

I still argue that folks don't like Martyrdom because it affects their ego. Those numbers on the scoreboard don't represent you, they are simply snapshots of the group experience. Once you can say, "It's just part of the game, let's move on." you will be free from its annoyance.

For some, that could well be true.

For me, the honest answer is that I don't like how it disrupts the flow of gameplay - prevents you from advancing forward to occupy the space of the enemy you just killed.

At best, it forces you to wait at a distance. At worst, it either instantly kills you by proximity (especially inside a room), or forces you into movement that gives away your position and leaves you extremely vulnerable. Shooting and advancing is a basic tenet of FPS games (there are other styles of course, but this is a common/valid style too, regardless of what some people try to say), and certain parameters of Martyrdom disrupt this style. I believe that with some adjustments, it could still be an effective perk, but still allow the shoot/advance style of gameplay.

Ever been in a game where there are two to three snipers covering a major traffic route and the snipers are actually decent? How about when they're supported by LMG or M16? Everything comes to a crawl. Should we limit the number of players who can pick up those weapons because the flow of the game becomes like molasses? I have played Day of Defeat mods that did that, same with the old CoD too. Not sure if I want to go back to that.
