oh, So you think think thats being hyocritical.. Alright then, play your server tonight. Do Vacant, just see. How many pointless n00bs you will have, if there pro.. then they won't use a P90, because they know its banned in CEVO and other leagues. They are using either a M4 or G36c, and mastering it for matches...or any other non-illegal gun.

I've been remarked ingame as having "CS Twitch Skills" - which I've come to understand as a good thing.

I played A LOT of CS:S, especially sniping with the Scout, so that may be part of it.

Thanks for the replies though, try not to make this too personal (m3ow vs. AutoFodder)

Server issue. I cant break through 1:1 in S&D in some servers, and switching to TDM on another one, I go from 1:1 to 10:1 and laugh my arse off. Youre playing with the wrong folks.

In BF2. Youre less than mediocre, but you can think. You cant outthink the random cone of fire and you die to an unexpected bomb drop.
In BF2. Youre very good, and you can think. You only die to random grenades, because the opposition struggles with the cone of fire. You can anticipate jet attacks and armor is too slow for you.
In BF2. Youre less than mediocre, and you cant think. You end the round with 1:30 KDR and a score of -12.

In COD4. Youre less than mediocre, but you can think. You cant win in a direct 1 vs 1, but you can put yourself in a position where you can kill unsuspecting enemies.
In COD4. Youre very good, and you can think. You dont die unless youre against enemies better or close to your skill level.
In COD4. Youre less than mediocre, and you cant think. DEPENDING ON THE GAMEMODE, youll either end with a 0:50, or 1:25.

COD4 rewards raw skill and thinking. BF2 rewards those who exploit the system, know the system, and are very skilled. BF2 is like trying to evade taxes. COD4 is like playing checkers. One is a hassle through BS, another one gets right down to business and is fun as fck.

^ eh i kind of agree but i wouldnt say BF is all about exploiting. Ok if you whore the J10 all the time then yes.

BF2 imo rewards the people that dont act like idiots and plan ahead, granted you also have to know the maps quite well first. but if you just run and gun you die.

COD4 is an exploiters paradise however. How can you not have played crash and exploited the hell out of the map. you know the 3 story building will net you so many kills at the start, then you know that the spawns will switch back so maybe go down and into the shop type building etc...

to OP yes i agree for some reason, on BF2 i was happy with a 1.5+ KDR on COD4 i find my self going 40ish for 10.

            BF2 skill isn't exploiting, it's just a different gamestyle.

Haha Love the scout sniper, no scope!

Here is a little food for thought though.

Have you considered the fact that there will be a lot of people who have brought the game over Christmas (pressies) and are trying to get used to it. This is the actual bullet sponge time for us good players (ones who have been around and played the FPS's a lot) Since so many Newbs (literally new players) are playing the game. There was a time like this at the beginning of the game when many new players brought the game too. and were bullet sponges. It may not just be the skill of yourself that is improving but the skill for the new players, since the more new players, the lesser the average skill.

              ^Patent pending Frosty's theorem^

Yeah, cool. Tell that to Snarf, and all the people out there that literally bleed the game out in order to kill faster, better, smoother and more reliably, because the standard tools simply arent cutting it.

Where do you think bunnyhopping, dolphin diving, C4 chucking, GL-to-the-feet, pixel shots, ATA missile dumbfire, wingtipping, wallglitching, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, came from?

"Exploiting" not as in "HAXXOOORING!", but as in constantly finding new and better ways to use the standard equipment. You dont see that sh!t in COD4. Because the game is straightforward, reliable and the tools given to you work well enough for you to not to use them in a different manner.

                Open your eyes, gentlemen.

Just because I don't hate Battlefield 2, doesn't mean I'm ignorant of cheap tactics in it.

Simply because karkand/medic whores played unfairly, didn't mean the game was innately unfair.

Im not talking about the game being fair or not. Im talking about the increase in skill in BF2 being a whole lot of different kind than one in COD4. In COD4, its learning how to aim, and learning how to play against people, and people are dumbas5es.

In BF2, its learning how to ... navigate yourself through the gameplay. A whole different process.

sorry dude i just cant agree with this, if your telling me staying at the back spamming the LMG through all the buildings whilst having martydom and x3 frag throwing them randomly around the map racking up kills is skill, then this really isnt my kind of game.

IMO, this game is mostly luck.

Definitely cannot agree with that opinion, and I have a feeling when you look back on it, you probably didn't mean it that strongly either.

COD4 definitely does reward camping, no question about it...the textures/camo are quite good, and often you can only see an enemy if they are actually moving, so stationary players have somewhat of an advantage.

And the weapons are accurate enough that shooting into a "busy" area will get you a surprise kill once in awhile too. But, blindly nading and M203'ing, while it will get you kills, won't get you a positive K/D ratio.

I've said this before, but A HUGE AMOUNT of your perception of this game depends on the servers you're on. Because the maps are smallish, if you play on servers with a lot of people on them, there will be a lot of killing as well as dying, and "spammy" behaviour. It's the "shooting fish in a barrel" concept. But on smaller servers with more room to move around, and people who don't only like to blow things up, it's almost a totally different game.

There's lots of difference between this and BF2 - which is a game I really wanted to like, but never really got the hang of, so I abandoned it - but success in COD4 is much, much more than "luck". Once bigger custom maps are available, we'll be able to play on servers with lots of people AND have the freedom to move around more without dying left and right.

The only reason why people are getting "lucky nade kills", is because they anticipate other players to be in the target spot.

The only way a martydom user will get a kill, is when the victim makes a mistake.

The only time you get killed by the LMG, is when you step where you shouldnt be stepping.

IMO, this game is mostly luck.
No. People capitalize off other peoples tactical mistakes in COD4. The only reason you dont see that happen in BF2... oh wait... sorry. Karkand anyone?

Luck my as5. I play all my games with a rabbit foot in my pocket, I dont see no 100:1 KDRs!

yea i take back the luck part, i didnt really think that through, what i meant was this game is based very much on the right or wrong person in the right or wrong place at the right time.

IMO, you dont have to outsmart your opponent in CoD4 you just have to put them to the ground first be it a lucky headshot or a ridiculous 10 foot knife kill. I miss the days of having to out smart your opponent and having the upper hand on them.

I can somewhat agree with this. Although servers for me, there is none of. But I regularly find myself playing better on smaller matches than the larger ones. Im good at S&D, but horrible at domination. mainly because the people who rely on 'luck', usually die out quick.

Well, I had to jump in on this. I used to play a ton of BF2/2142, loved them, and now am playing COD4, and like it almost as much. However, despite the different "XgameX is better for 'sploitz!" *cough* Titan Mode *cough*, there really is a completely different skill set at work, and which does lean me slightly to the BF series.

Where I disagree is the implication that the CS:S- erm, I mean, COD4! - skill set is superior to the BF2 "crappage".

There are really two different categories at work here, twitch skills and planning skills, but games using them to different degrees. COD4, with it's laser accurate shooting, rewards the twitch players far more than the cone of fire of BF. This means, that if two players see each other, the faster will win. Good, right? Not always.

While BF's cone limitted the ability to buzzsaw people's heads off, it also made the planning MORE important. You didn't just need to be able to out-shoot your enemy, you needed to out-think him, probing from multiple angles, coming out of nowhere, maneuvering AROUND where you were "supposed" to be. The person who knew the map/weapons/enemy better could anticipate around better reflexes.

This personally played to my style far more, as I am nowhere near the ability of some people to consistently wing opponents heads off at extreme range, with no warning, but I am pretty darn good at figuring out where the enemy "wants" to be, and where they think I'll be.

In COD4, this is limited by the bouncing spawns, and the sheer carnage of Airstrikes and Choppers. BF2 airstrikes were people, aiming for groups, so besides a few terri-bad J10 Wake Rape sessions (caused by a lack of good pilots on the JSF), you could avoid getting pounded by-and-large by avoiding the cluster-screw mobs of idiots. Arty was commander called, and could be avoided EVEN BETTER by simply not being in choke points (and if a commander dropped arty JUST ON YOU? Well, that's the highest compliment!).

COD4, the small size means that you can't simply outflank (on a strategic, not tactical level), and you really can't ever truly avoid the arbitrary death from above. Furthermore, the small size means you can't move out the of the large mass and escape the cone of attention, you are always in someone's crosshairs. While players who excel at these live fire duels will say this is a good thing, I believe it limits the game to simply out twitching, and allows for less out-thinking.

And yes, my primary role in BF2 was never as a kill machine, but as an Anti-Armor kit. I did it well, too, using terrain and ambush points to turn those death dealers into tin cans of hurt. In COD4, there's no room for that kind of shoot 'n' scoot, harass them 'till dead fights. It's boomboomboom dead.

If this comes off as "COD4 sucks, BF ROX!", then I'm sorry. That's not what I'm trying to say. I just think that BF2 was not as bad as people are implying, and it's cone of fire technique turned it into more strategy, less twitch (exuding Grenades at Karkand). BF2 was genius ruined by terrible follow through by EA/DICE, and 2142 took a turn for the worse with its map design (either NOTHING ... AT ... ALL or POINTBLANKKILLFEST). COD4, meanwhile, is a solid concept executed brilliantly.

All in all, less strat, more twitch. It's a great snack, but I'll probably never enjoy it like the full meal that was BF2, no matter how horridly I liked to mock it back in the day.

EDIT: Hey Chris, good to see you still around.
