Just got a new GFX card and bf2 skipping...

Guys, I think I found the problem.. I played single player for about an hour and it didn't happen once, but in the online servers it did (Btw, it doesn't happen constantly anymore like it did in the video I posted, it comes and goes like every 12secs to 1 min kinda random)
Single player is disconnected from internet right?
So it's either the servers or my internet right? On the servers my pings always below 50, I always play on them lol (Full Contact War, TA wake etc,.) They shouldn't be lagging hmm..

Also it doesn't happen on ET:QW online servers, and the gunzonline one isn't happening much, but every now and then lol my ping on gunz always goes between 10-20 when I'm playing with someone in my state

the bad thing is you gotta look at everybody else's ping too, makes the game lagg if you got some people with high pings even though yours is low. the server struggles to keep the game IRTime, thats why some servers will kick you if your avg ping is above a certain amount , like 150 or more

depens on the SP , some are small mappps. your comcast, have u check the speed when you play? cable spikes at peak times, it is fast but when everybody is online of evening your connection slows down. had it meself , found that out & ditched it. i kept laggin like a muther and done speed test & i was barely above dial up, called them & eventually got that explination. they said "were working to fix that" i told them it was false advertising.

Okay, I did a some more testing:

I joined a wake island server with 0 PPL on 50ping and did that same truck thing, it happened like 4 times in 10 mins

I joined a 64 player server and ran the test at www.speedtest.net and alt tabbed back into game while it was running, the game got reallllly choppy when that was running, and the test came out to 8000kb/s dl 900kb/s upload so I don't see how my connection is making me skip//

Then i created a local server (Wake) I was only person on it (It should be absolutely no lag right? Since I'm hosting it from my comp..) did same truck thing and other stuff and the skipping/choppy thing didn't happen at all...

So I guess it could be PB maybe? I updated it and did the sleep 500 thing already, or is it just all servers lag for me lol

1.3GB Page File is not enough put 4GB down.

Thats complete BS, I have 2gb DDR2 RAM and when I increase my page file from 1.3GB to 4GB I get nonstop stuttering/jerky gameplay. Yet when I have it set at 1.3GB I get no stuttering at all, explain that to me if "1.3GB Page File is not enough".

oh nah, didnt mean to sound like your speed wasyour problem, jsut that its worth checking out. sounds killer to me. ok not a speed issue, you have a good card, good specs, just be dogged if i know dude.
did u increase the page file? if not try that for sure.

you said before xp uses 70% of your ram,how did you find that out?

can you take a screenshot of your windows task manager the performance tab?

also while idle notice how many MB the page file is using idle, boot up your game get in game (leave the task window up) in game hit alt & esc & see what the page file is then. If possible take a screenshot of it when you minimize fast as possible.

Why do I need page file optimization?
Optimizing your page file when you're running low on RAM is always a good idea. When all physical RAM in a computer is in use, Windows starts using the hard disk as if it were additional RAM. This is why we have a Pagefile (also called the swap file). Because RAM memory is a lot more faster than the hard disk, whenever the computer begins to use the Pagefile to relieve memory pressure, we begin to experience a drastic performance degradation.

One of the most effective things you can do to improve performance is ensure that there is enough RAM available to avoid frequent paging (swapping) of memory contents between disk and RAM.

This means that the actual limit on the memory used by all applications is the amount of RAM installed plus the maximum size of the Pagefile.

How much swap space do you need? That depends the amount of RAM you have and the programs you use. The rule of the thumb is 1.5 times the amount of system memory, unless you have too much load on your system.

screen looks good, your not peaking over. it made it worse to increase the page file? if it did go back to what ever it was, and try this i think it will help. you did say you defraged that drive right? and can you put the name & number of drive in here, just go in control panel, system, device manager, hit drives & right click on it & hit properties, shoul have a name & number.

this will help i think, just download it, unzip it, open it, hit "defrage on next boot" close it & restart.

I thought it made it worse but; I changed it back to 1536 and restarted, got into a game and it did it just as worse as the other set page file at the beginning of the game, but then it calmed down...

I tried that defragger, still same problem.

I tried installing the new beta drivers from nVIDIA 169.04, also didn't help lol shall I blow up my comp now>_>

Err, the game is playable, the skip isn't as bad as it was in my first video ( I dunno why ) It happens alot less now, but still happens and gets annoying =_=; I really am thinking it might be internet spiking or something spiking it I'm not sure cause it happens randomly.. like:

Also, I do think it happened on my old card but I just didn't notice, I'm not too sure but I remember getting real bad screen skipping on it sometimes at begining of rounds and in gunner seat on heli.

It's drivers are from 7/1/2001 , should I update if theres an update for it? lol

HD looks nice, if it has driver you can update with Iwould. if it makes it worse then u can allways go back.

check for a update on your bios driver too.

I think your right , it could be some very fast spikes in connection. be sure to look at your ping in the game & look at other peeps pings, it will cause the server to lagg & sometimes even crash if alot of high ping's are in the game.

I also think it would help you if you went to 3 gig of ram, but not necessasary, i used to have 1.5 and i went to 3 & made a tremendous diff.

i was figuing alex or camper or somebody that knows alot more about this would jump in here, there pretty savvy on this kinda things.

RAM would likely help the most, especially if you are running textures on HIGH or a high resolution. pricewatch.com, tigerdirect, and newegg all have pretty good prices on RAM.

Ermm, I don't see any HD lights on my computer, but theres one on my portal drive and it doesn't flash at all.

One thing I just found out, everytime the screen skips theres a loading sound inside my computer, ermm I can't describe it, it's like "Rgrrch" lol, I hear it when I'm starting up or loading something big I think, but everytime the screen skips in BF2 I hear that sound in my computer case real quick

yepp, the Rgrrch sound is the HD working to get the files it need to run bf2.... lettme see what i can find out

Well, the hard disk is either reading fragmented files (ie spread across the disk), is reading something large (unlikely as it's a short skip), or the read needle is soon to meet its maker.
The latter is more likely.

Tell him to back it up, as methinks it will go to meet its makers soon. It's only a matter of time.
Happened to me once. Bought a dell, and then half a year later the hard disk just broke... it all started with skips and noises...

Gunz online isn't what we would call a system killer so that pretty much removes the fault resting with RAM, Page File or lack of specification on the OPs part.

The fact that it occurs on two ONLINE games both with wildly different spec requirements suggests the fault lies with the connection.

I am taking a stab in the dark here but are you by any chance using a wireless connection to connect to the internet? If so then your problem may be a program that Windows uses to automatically set up your network.

If you are using wireless then I or someone else will more than likely tell you how to sort the problem out. If not then ignore me as chances are I may be rambling again.

The easiest way to tell if the HD is on the way out is to find out what kind of HD he has and then download the monitoring software from the makers website. Almost all major HD makers will have some sort of software that can tell you the condition of the HD.
