Just got a new GFX card and bf2 skipping...

I just got an eVGA 8800GT and I get constant 60-100 fps in bf2 but while I'm playing eventho the fps is steady the screen skips for a split second every now and then when I'm playing.. Heres a video if it..

This also happens with another game "Gunz Online"

Any idea what could be causing it and how to fix it?

It's either punkbuster or your pagefile.

Fix punkbuster by manually updating from evenbalance.com
Fix the pagefile by moving it to another physical drive or getting more RAM.

I have 2GB ram currently, BF2 uses 70% of it and 1.3GB page file (well my computer uses 300mb of it idleing so). I only have one physical drive ( C: ) My friend told me to do the same thing..

I updated punk buster but it didn't help

are you sure you removed all of the old drivers and updated with the correct ones for your card? another thing you can try is downloading the latest drivers and install them it might make some difference

Yes I've uninstalled drivers then used Driver Cleaner to get rid of any left over. I have tried the newest drivers, and beta ones.. no luck x.x

I have another portable drive ( E: ), is it okay to change the page file to that? lol

whats your net speed? something is spiking it have u checked background process' ?

I dont think it would be PB happening too fast anyway. also the servers you play on what kinda ping you getting? you can have best graphic card in the world & if it takes forever for a packet to reach you then you know its gonna choppp.

get in a server with a ping of lower than 50 & see if it does it
& post rest of your specs & have u updated direct x?

your specs look killer to me. only thing i can think of is just do a good clean up with CCleaner or something , a registry scan & fix, and defrag and check your background process' make sure nothig is running that shouldnt :salute:

I dont think so, i think alot of peep on here have that card & play bf2 with it. im just not sure if you done all that allready. i'd repost somethign like "8800GT help" maybe somebody has the card might knkow.

yeah thats good to do, i looked at mine is set at 3 gig, in xp it has a option "let the system decide" thats what i hit & it does the math for you.

control P/system/advanced/performance/change page file

It doesn't really matter how big your page file is (within certain reasonable limits) if the game is running the game and OS from the same drive as the page file. Just let the system decide its own size and it can dyamically allocate more if it needs it. The new punkbuster isn't helping things much, but we have to live with it for now. The single best things for you to do are either get more RAM, (when I made the jump over 2GB, that helped a lot) and setting the page file to a different drive than the primary drive. I have not personally tried moving the page file to an external drive, but it's worth a shot if its IEEE1394, a good USB2.0, or a SATA connection. Give it a shot. If it doesn't help, put it back.

Just my opinion, but i wouldnt move my page file to a USB drive, internall sata would be fastest i think**

but your right, i made leap from 1.5 gig allway to 3 gig & wow what a difference. but with 2 gig he should be ok, atleast not that kinda lagg, but i could be wrong

Guys, I think I found the problem.. I played single player for about an hour and it didn't happen once, but in the online servers it did (Btw, it doesn't happen constantly anymore like it did in the video I posted, it comes and goes like every 12secs to 1 min kinda random)
Single player is disconnected from internet right?
So it's either the servers or my internet right? On the servers my pings always below 50, I always play on them lol (Full Contact War, TA wake etc,.) They shouldn't be lagging hmm..

Also it doesn't happen on ET:QW online servers, and the gunzonline one isn't happening much, but every now and then lol my ping on gunz always goes between 10-20 when I'm playing with someone in my state
