I actually found BF2142 background storyline to be really good and plausible. With some creative work they could have nailed the setting and created despair, perhaps even horror as the threat is something people can relate themselves to. Well, those lucky crooks who live in Texas and havent seen snow in their life of course couldnt.

Then you load up BF2142 and every item, weapon, skin, map you see is so ****ing bland and stupid. Sh!tload of wasted potential.

I lived on a farm in nebraska half my life Ive seen snow loads of times just because I live in Texas now does not mean I have spent my whole life here. and also it has snowed down here it did each of the past 2 years along with multiple days each year below freezing.

I'm sorry I can't relate to someone who fells like an ice age is coming every winter.

I hate games with futuristic weapons like a "plasma cannon" or "velocity rifle"... Id much rather playing with realistic weapons like the G36e, PKM, M95 etc.

this is the biggest reason I don't want to play 2142

Because most people are sheep and follow the crowd. A couple people say that 2142 is crap(even though some have never played it) then fake loyalty interjects within the masses towards BF2. So then the masses say it sucks because it seems like the "in" thing without even knowing it. Or they perceive themselves as hardcore and stay stagnant with BF2/karkand fest.

Or maybe some say they don't like futuristic settings, bash the game, yet have never played it. Ignorance at its finest.

i played the demo....i didnt like the mechs nor the futeristic crap other than that it was very much alike so i didnt bother

I play BF2 because there are a number of quality mods already released, and many more on the way.

I don't play BF2142 because it offers no substantial change over BF2, aside from a new game mode and a different setting.

I have the demo....it is ok.....but it just seems to be more of the same than a different game. When I want to play a furturistic-type game I play one of my Star Wars games....

Actually, I need to add something to that too. Texas is dangerous when it snows. We get +6cm of snow on the ground and they shut a city down. It is because people can't drive around here in icy conditions. Those whom had grown up in the north or other moderate snow areas still don't go out because there is nothing open and no place to go.

Even if can drive, you don't dare get on the roads because it is the person that can't drive in the ice you need to be worried about.

First thing:

Weapons:

BF2- Modern, real weapons that are fun too use and generally well balanced. Unlocks and stock weapons are well-balance, unlocks are just extra options not better ones.

BF2142- Futuristic weapons requiring unlocks and going along "trees" that allow top players to create super-kits. Unlocks are far more powerful than those in BF2 compared to stock. But as a whole guns have too much deviation and recoil.

Kits:

BF2- Seven kits, each with unique and special abilites. Kits are well balanced, not that Anti-Tank is just as good on Infantry Only as medic, but that Anti-Tank is the best on vehicle servers (the type of game/map influence your kit choice).

BF2142- Four kits. You whore up the unlocks in one kit (c'mon everyone picks assualt, there is no reason to be an Engineer when the vehicles suck so bad, snipers are not powerful enough in any type of game mode/map, and support has ****ty little LMGs that get wooped by assualt rifles at anything over 1 meter) and that is all you play.

Game Modes:

BF2- One mode, classical and fun. The pace is furious and the action unique.

BF2142- Two modes. Maps laid out poorly in an attempt to support both, but neither one ends up supported well. Titan Mode could have dragged me over to BF2142, if it hadn't sucked compared to Conquest.

Maps:

BF2- Vastly different, with interesting real life places and sharp graphics.

BF2142- Fairyland crap ice covered places with lackluster snow graphics to bland desert settings (in the middle of the Ice Age). Pretty bad graphical advancement from BF2.

Vehicles:

BF2- You like'em, you love'em, you hate'em. Doesn't matter, you love them. Go join a 64 Dalian Plant with vehicles. Like them? Join a 64 Mashtuur with vehicles or a Sharqi Penn. Hate them? Join a 64 I/O Karkand.

BF2142- Pretty weak, enough of an annoyment to mess up the infantry game, but not good enough to make it a viable vehicle game.

Pace/Gameplay:

BF2- Action packed, fighting everywhere you turn.

BF2142- Fell like walking 250 meters to the next flag? Your in for a treat with BF2142. Oh and when you get there, prepare to be suddenly and randomly gang-banged by Brigadier Generals toting Voss's and tons of nades.

Thats why I don't play BF2142.

I play both. The infantry combat in 2142 is well above and beyond what BF2 can offer but the 2142 vehicles suck.

I do enjoy having portable AA (something BF2 STILL doesn't have and probably never will) and not getting constantly raped by jet or helo in 2142.

Yeah the helicopters with door gunners are one of my main reasons why I like bf2.
