So if you are in the F35, you've used ally our afterburner, and flares aswell. Then a MiG gets on your tail.

    How would you survive?

The MiG and J10 turns faster than the F35.

DO NOT use missles on choppers, just get practice in with the cannon, learn how much to lead the target and compensate for lag to make the bullets come in contact with the cockpit. I don't care how you do, but if you get a steady stream, you will be killing choppers in 1-2 seconds... aka before they even realized what hit them... literally...

    LEARN TO USE YOUR VIEWS!

3 views you MUST use 24/7 when in a jet.

    Cockpit/rear view/fly-by.

I cannot stress this enough... especially a combination of fly-by and cockpit view while in a dogfight.

    Just my words

    Couldn't agree more...

I just want some tips for Oman. I was challenged yesterday, got him first. Then my ping went crazy, but we continued. Then he got me like 2 times, after I did use all my afterburner, and was in like 690 FT high, and flares was used too. Couldn't survive those 2 times :/

Imo it's easiser to find a J10 in the air on Wake and kill it. But I'm not used to Oman, it's really not the same skies.... :S Maybe N2K could give me some good tips here

Re: Jet Flying Question And Answer

Thanks to Mobb and the other experience pilots for sharing their knowledge and wisdom. I am in the same "boat" as Hurrican.CAD as I am trying for my Vet Aviator Badge. But I don't won't to just earn it, I want to learn from it, which is way I am taking an interest in how to become a better pilot.

          My questions are:

          1. Are the A2A missiles in the F35B and F18 useful against any pilot that's not a beginner? I swear I get a lock on and the missiles just go their own direction. Today I took out my bomber trying to take out the Mig behind them. But despite my lock, I got 2 TKs.

          2. I have a hard time lining up cannon shots against jets and helos. My sensitivity is set to the maximum levels. I feel this will help in dogfighting (which is my weakest skill) and evading, but so far at a cost to taking out enemies. (I guess I am a cat on ice too).

          3. I am an afterburner junkie, which I no is a bad thing. Though it could be my joystick, some times, I press the afterburner button and it doesn't respond. Is there any limitations to using afterburners?

          Thanks...

I have a question, well kinda

my favorite jet is F35 and theres nothing better then flying very high with that thing then coming down at the target, I use mouse and keyboard and I must say I can keep the jet very stable when flying, I guess all the stunts Ive been doing helped me, Ive gotten alot better with the MG, I can take choppers out in one pass most of the time without slowing down

well this is a different kind of a question, what do you think about M&K flying, can a pilot end up being as good as a pilot who uses a joystick, I have a pretty big mouse pad and I play with my mouse set to 1600dpi

I have a brand new joystick but Im afraid to use it again lol coz the first time I used it, it was so hard

the mig is not hard to shoot down, its almost as easy to hit with missiles as the f35. BUT!!! it can turn way better, dont bother with circle wars, just do loop the loop and get on its tail for a missile lock.
or use the cannons on it in bomb mode. ive chased people before and even tho ur raping their health, they still carry on, but switch to missiles and they evade, lol.

              1. yes the missiles from the f35 and f18 are usefull. you need to find the right time to fire. these will be: chasing a j10 with no flares, wait untill he goes straightish before firing them. dont bother if he is doing a circle war. try to cannon your victim in bomb mode abit so that a missile hit will really hurt him.

              2. your plane will be far too twitchy, set your jet sensitivty(including yaw and pitch) to default and also check mouse acceleration in control panel is turned off. also map 2 keys one for climbing and one for diving, you will then get a full turn either way as long as you keep the mouse still, you can use A & D to turn a little while doing that.

              3. if you want to get to the other side of the map fast, use the burner to climb upto 500-700 and then level out, you will cross the map in a few seconds, compared to twice the time flying low and using the after burner.

i use m&k and can hold my own, i also have keys mapped for a full turn when needed. it does get more difficult when your chasing and following a joystick users exact moves, but your experience will 95% of the time allow you to follow easily.

                Phil

If youre out of afterburners, and at high altitude, common mistake people make is create distance between the F35B and the MiG. Probably your only chance would be to make him stick as close as possible and constantly keep him off the lock by trying scissor-esque moves.

In Oman, in public play, a MiG dogfighter will not spend much time over the sea. He will usually go for a quick recon pinch and then go back to the land. Your best bet is finding him somewhere between the beach and MEC uncappable, cruising comfortably at about 400 or a little less metres.

If youre in a 1 vs 1, looking between 400 and 800, near your carrier would be a good option. If you engage him, and disegngage, run quickly to check his air strip, if he aint there to regain his confidence, he will be most likely trying to find you at the carrier.

That being said, MiG-29 is a monster plane, and unless the pilot is stupid and gives you a shot, F35B can only do hit and run tactics.

Oman is open, and an experienced pilot in the F35B already flies with the "anti MiG" mind setup. Your best bet is to NOT to do any ATG work until youve downed both of the F35Bs. Actually, leave the ground killing duties to the Su, and focus on dogfights. F35Bs you will find above 500 metres. Try doing this- go up to 500 feet, rotate your jet 90 degrees and use mouselook to scout for targets. Mouselook is perhaps the MOST underused features these days that are available to you. The numbers of jets Ive tracked down simply by looking at my sides is apalling. Well worth the effort.

Anyway, F35B in Oman uses "hit and run" technique, whereas in Kubra youll see a lot more straightforward dogfighting. As such, people in Oman tend to put all their cash on one solid single blow.

Question 2. How high do you have to be so the AAs wont lock on to you?
All STA aswell as ATA range is 375 metres. So if youre at or above 400, youre good. Also note that it takes a lock-and-shoot at about 300-350 to make the missile really track the target.

                  Chris -

I did get him shot down over the sea, as the first kill. Second time I was on his tail, making his tail starting smoking after I hit him some with my MG. Then he turned away, I followed him, we went to do some circling, I did a loop. He did so too, he got on my tail, flares was reloading and I used all my afterburner. Boom, I died :/

Can you explain "scissor-esque moves" ? Thanks

He was probably using fly-by view to see you disengage. The important thing with fly by, is learning how to break when you are out of their fly by view range. If you manage to do so, you can find great moments to break off and either make him work extra hard to get behidn you, or lose him completely. Evasion doesnt always start with him being behind you. Evasion can start with you being behind him.

As for you getting him over the sea, it happens. I was just talking from what Ive seen myself mostly, and done mostly.

Can you explain "scissor-esque moves" ? Thanks
In theory, its simple, its making your opponent constantly overshoot, and be one step behind you in the series of turns. Its a sh!tty move if you only rely on THAT to evade, as its simply leasing time to prepare for other options. Sometimes I can get lucky and get behind people with scissor series combined with a lucky barrel roll.

Heres 2 pics. One is scissors in theory. The other one is the nr one reason why F35B pilots usually fail at scissoring.

I believe the first pic is easy to understand.

I think I should explain the other one. 2 common mistakes. Overspeeding, and making the turns too quickly after each other. Which is also why a lot of multiple split S maneuvers often fail, because people turn too early, and as such the S turns out to be an insignificant manuver most pilots track down without even flipping their jet.

Thanks Chris. I'm used to use the views ALOT, flyby view specially. I can follow them very often and kill... I enjoy killing 3 stars rank boys in their J-10's on Wake, until they leave the server :p

But I've never really been figthing against a MiG. Can't remember last time. And the "scissor-esque move" seems to be a nice try, never thought of it heh Thanks for that tip..

Now I really have to improove my dogfighting skills against a MiG , hehe

Re: Jet Flying Question And Answer

Just for future referance. The move is called "Scissors" and "esque" just means "like". So what I said was "scissor - looking - like - moves". Meaning. Pure scissors are one thing, and a series of rapid turns with giving your opponent no shot would be "scissor like moves" AKA "scissor-esque" moves.

:P, English, what an odd language.

The thing with the MiG is, it stays behind, because its slow. And as such it gets tons of easy missile shot opportunities, which exponentially grow when you go any higher than 300. You can make a newbie "high altitude" pilot fly in discomfort, but a seasoned veteran knows that unless you go with flares and stratorun, he will just missile you down.

And as for stratoruns. 15 second burner time, spotting, 2 missiles through the flares. Follow him until the OOB signs start bleeping, make a turn and hope you made the right one. Use mouselook. Youve got a high chance to catch him with no afterburners, pants down, and ready to be killed.

i suck in jets but for bombing practice i find trying to take out the enme arty as good practice, it takes two direct bomb hits, and you can look behind to see if your first one hit. this is also helpful if you bomb a teammate and you want your teamplay points back.

and thanks for the advice, i kinda wish i could get my hands on F-18 more often

im sure it is less than that, ive frequently tv'ed an asset with just one missile from the bomber.

TV missile is from a chopper, laser guided from bomber

it wasn't for destroying them but more for bombing practice, its helped me alot with bombing, i thought i'd share the only tip i could
