    Re: people flying choppers single....

I don't trust people I don't know. On servers with a small amount of people I really don't care. But If I'm playing a full server one of my clan mates or friends is the only one allowed. I've seen People with 40,000+ points on their account not know how to fly or gun. I just don't trust you. I hate waiting 15 seconds to respawn, and I know what I want to shoot when I want to shoot it. I'll practice with people, like my clanmate was on the other team when the map changed, and wanted to see what this guy could do, had a clan tag and did well the last map, so I let him in. Even let him fly once. It's personal preference, and once again. I don't trust people.

        Re: people flying choppers single....

Ok, Mister 21 posts, let's make assumptions about people on a message board. You a private, too? Or do you play IO cause you can't deal with getting killed by tanks?

About having a bad gunner being different from soloing. If you can't hit a tank, or don't know you can guide the missile, you shouldn't even get in the seat. I've had people TK me for the chopper, then wait on the ground for a gunner, so I hop in, and they crash after we take off. Who cares if you don't have a gunner to spam the MG on infantry units. If you're only using it to take out infantry units, then you're not using it(as someone said before) effectively. It's there to take out tanks, choppers, and the occasional jet(which is rather fun). I could show you videos of me with a bad gunner, then videos of me with my clanmate, and then a video of me soloing, and they'd all be different in one way or another. There are even some incredible soloers who will tip the chopper and then MG guys on the ground(watch duck and cover with Redux). It's the same with any other vehicle, a tank with a gunner is no different than a tank without, a bomber with a co-pilot is no different than a bomber without(considering the fact that you're regular everyday Joe knows how to use the laser-guided missiles), an APC is no different with 4 or 5 extra people on the guns, unless it's a clan match and they're using it for strategy. A chopper without a gunner can be just as effective as a chopper with a gunner if you're using it the right way. Check the media section, there are plenty of solo videos(including mine if you want to flame), and if you become a good pilot, and you try soloing you'll never go back to settling for a bad gunner. A pilot is only as good as his gunner, and if you're a good soloer, you can be more effective than you would be with a gunner. It's not about being God's gift to BF2, it's about making a decision, what would be better for my team? I've played rounds where my team was losing, I join up and the chopper's just sitting there, my clanmate hops in, and we fend off the other team long enough to cap half, if not all, the points, to come back for a win. And plenty of chopper pilots can admit to thinking that him(and their gunner if it applies) helped win the game. Done rambling.

Edit: And considering the fact that my clan is having me solo in matches, I'll be doing it a lot more to practice. On 8v8 conquest, you need the most people on the ground as you can allow. Most clans will designate someone to solo.

It's up to you whiner's. Practice in SP, practice with a friend in an empty server...I don't care. But you're not practicing with me. If you wanna complain about people redlining you, join a clan. And I love how most of the people who hate soloers, and say they're not teamplayers have sniper sigs. I've met a few people on BF2 who are actually decent gunners, and would allow them in if I saw them again. For those of you saying that we need to be well-rounded players, I personally do better on the ground than in choppers. If my team's losing, and clanmate and I are in the chopper(usually only happens in Wake), we'll hit the ground and cap flags. You're saying it's only a game and we need to grow balls, then why are you all complaining about it if it's only a game? EVERY game has it's little secrets. Soloing in choppers is one of BF2's. If you know you're not a good gunner, then please practice in SP, and yes, they will set you up for some pretty nice TV shots, the MG is pretty self-explanatory anyway. If you don't know how a pilot works, and you're constantly looking to the left or right spamming infantry, you shouldn't gun. You should be looking forward waiting for a shot, or spotting armor at the very least. You need to learn priorities as a pilot/gunner. What to shoot first in different situations. It all takes time, and time I don't have. I've put the time in to become a decent pilot/gunner/soloer, and I'm not doing it again with you.

Ok, why not take a gunner with you?

          Lag doesn't count.

If you're at all serious about this game, and you're on these forums, you should know about the gunner guide. If you wanna become a gunner, then read it. Practice it. I won't take some random person because I don't want to take the risk of having to teach him how to gun. Not everyone has a mic, and I don't feel like helping another player out...because I'm just that selfish. I took my best friend from back home out one day, and he refused to use the MG on infantry because the TV was cool. I still let him fly with me because I know him. But some random 12 yr old who doesn't know what he's doing isn't going to get a lesson from me while in-game.

              Re: people flying choppers single....

I can think of one clear and powerful advantage for a chopper pilot to go solo, and that is communication (or whatever you want to term it). When you're the gunner AND the pilot, you know yourself what you want to shoot at. There's no need to chat, spot, ask for alignment, etc. Just get in position and make the kill. That makes a solo chopper flyer extremely deadly against vehicles. Also, there's the bug where switching seats break missile lock?

Having a gunner gives you :
              - Possibly greater awareness, as gunner has wider range of view
              - Better infantry killing capabilites for the chopper
              - Slight advantage in chopper duels
But then you have to deal with all the not-so-proficient gunners that will come you way. Not much of an advantage for a really good solo-er. Anything else I missed?

I must say though, I've done my share of practicing in SP, and I still suck like hell in online play. lol. Never given a chance to get used to the lag and stuff. But a good pilot would really help. I remember the first time I bombed in the F-15E, I had a good pilot who lined up and gave me that crucial bit of extra time to get my shots off. >20 vehicle kills for me. And bombing in a plane is way harder than the TVM lol since I can't afford to wait for the locking tone.

Two sides to the coin. If you know you suck, and you are hindering your team by claiming the seat of the control to the most crucial weaponry for your team, you are a tardnugget.

Everyone was a rookie at first, but some of us actually went ahead and practiced in SP before coming out and ruining the gaming experience for the whole team.
Couldn't have said it better myself. You are completely correct there. I wish more people would actually practice in SP.

^ Not if you work properly with the gunner, and if the gunner isn't so utterly blind they actually (* SHOCK, HORROR! *) notice you spotting the enemy chopper/nuclear bomb until you get blocked.

um, with a good gunner they go after whatever i point at. its only with a rubbish gunner that you would be better off solo.

Is a bad gunner worse than a rubbish one..?
Would you say, maybe a medium gunner would increase your effectiveness..?

a bad gunner and a rubbish one are the same thing. maybe you should look that up in a dictionary if you think theres a difference between the two...
