Seat switching is not a glitch. The missile hit detection screwup after seatswitching is a glitch. Mostly unintentional, its still glitching.

And jets ARE easier to fly, in theory, anyway. Yet successfully fly a jet, and survive a dogfight I think is a lot harder. Now Ive used jets a hell of a lot more than a choppers, but even though jets lack one dimension of control a helo has, its still a lot more complicated in its advanced use.

OK, I'll change my sig from "Dice refused to address", to "Dice addressed incorrectly".

This is probably my biggest complaint about BF2. I love the game, play it alot, but this just bugs the sh|t outta me.

OK, say I'm laying on the ground, got a clear shot at some dude sitting in the drivers seat of a HUMVEE. I go to fire, and just as I click my fire button, he see's me, and presses F2. My bullet is flying through the air at this moment, on a direct path to this sucker's head, and right before it get to him......BLIP, he's in the gunner seat. Bullet goes flying by harmlessly. Since when was teleportation invented? Of course, he then lays into me with the 50cal. This is just an example of one form of seat switching I don't agree with.

You can call it a feature if you want. I call it an EXPLOIT, because its using something that really shouldn't be in the game. Its something Dice either overlooked, or just didn't want to program in. That same seat switching can be used in other vehicles, beit an attack chopper, a blackhawk, or SU-34.

If Dice would have taken the time to code it right, they would have either put a delay in changing positions, or made the character have to exit the vehicle and get in the correct position, or actually make the character show him switching posistions, similar to what you see in Grand Theft Auto, when the guy gets in the car from the passenger side.

That is the basis of my complaint. I just think its shotty programming on Dice's behalf which has turned into an exploit used by 1000's of players. I hope they address it in the next version of Battlefield, cuz its too late to fix in BF2 without major recoding.

BTW, the same could also be said for entering vehicles as well. I guess Dice didn't have the development time, or desire to make it better.

There's a big difference between making a game fun and playable, and making it realistic. Obviously they did not overlook it, as they shortened the time between engine cut off when switched to gunner seat. They didn't want to remove it, ergo, it is not an exploit. Sorry, but players not liking something doesn't make it an exploit. Most of the real expliots have been fixed, prone spamming for instance, and no, I am not talking about the moron belly dancing on the ground, but prone spamming behind a short wall, or sand bags, when you can not be seen or hit, but could still fire over, that was a real exploit, and it has been fixed. Glitching into buildings, while you still can, the more popular ones are gone, but you can still get into pretty much any building in BF2 if you know how.

Anyway, after having suffered every patch since the release, and all the game play changes, horrid or good, I have just stopped caring. I only play for enjoyment, I like the game, always have, once it is no fun, I'll stop playing, till then it does no good really to complain, just get what enjoyment you can from it. There will ALWAYS be something that you don't like, or think should be changed.

BF2 is made to be arcady, So doing that would slow the game down too much. Stop saying that it is an exploit because it is not, they have F1-F6 on the keyboard for switching seats, so how is it an exploit? Stop blaming Dice/EA for your lack of skill in BF2

Edit: beat me too it t0uch my balls :P.

                    Re: Helicopters.........

My opinion on the matter is, that if there is not anyone that wants to gun, then by all means go out and solo, but if there is anyone that wants to, you should let them.

Seat-switching itself is not a glitch, however, letting someone pilot, switch to gunner, tv mode, guide it in, and switch back is bogus. Like someone else said, teleportation does not exist, and there is a seat between there.

The game is not meant to be hyper realistic obviously, but there are some degrees of realism that should be in there, and are not. You wont meet a pilot of a cobra in the US marines that guns for himself as well. Of course, you wont find marines that bunnyhop and get shot to hell just to be revived by a defilbilator (cannot spell that, sorry) But they are two different things, and one is something that COULD happen however unlikely (bunnyhopping) whereas you will never see a pilot of a cobra jump forward to gun, and abandon the pilot seat.

lol, is that true, that it's considered a glitch? Does Dice/EA recognize it as a glitch or is that just the consensus of the community?

I laugh because the same was possible for piloting in BF: Vietnam, one could switch seats, saw in the Cobra, fire a heat seeking, and switch back all while avoiding a SA seeking.

Too funny, 2.5 yrs + to fix that and nothing, the heat seeking losing to a switched position at least, though I fully appreciated it, not sure I would consider it a glitch as well as you do lose control of the craft, but if it's something that has been *officially* recognized as a bug and still hasn't been patched then that's pretty sad.
                      /Position #2 FTW!

                        ,
It used to be that way, but now, after the last patch, you still get locked on when you switch.

To all who think seat switching is a glitch or an exploit...
Tough luck, you all failed to take action and address this to EA by making a support ticket and telling them about this exploit you found...

Whining about it now, on some forum, is obsolete...

When flying make sure you stay as low as possible, forget the fact that your gunner sees and can gun what is slgihtly under what your view is. There is no reason to fly high enough so that your gunner sees more then the ground 3ft below him or can not engage the opposing chopper ahead and above you.

If you are gunning make sure to never use the TV missle for anything.
If you see an enemy chopper, use the cannon only. Despite what peopel say the Tv missle is unguideable and can only be shot stright ahead at infantry.
If your pilot is spamming "spotted infantry/tank/heli" look the opposite way.
Sometimes just bail out for no reason, keep your pilot guessing why no one is shooting the cannon or Tv missle.

After doing all these things keep respawning at the chopper and trying to get in it no matter how horrible your doing. And by chance if someone does decide to gun for you when your flying, fly them to the red area and kill them since there is no need to use cannons and you can solo fly with Tv missles just as well as without a gunner.
O.O!!! LOL Don't listen to him.
DO NOT USE A JOYSTICK!!!!!! Use a mouse. when I used a joystick I sucked huge gorilla _____. When i switched to mosue, what do ya know? Now i am a good pilot. Haven't crashed since.

Oh, they definately won't do anything about it. Because, like I already said, to do away with changing positions instantaneously would require too much coding to the engine. Hopefully they'll address it in the next game, if it uses a new engine.

Oh, and just cuz I don't like it, doesn't mean I don't adapt and use it as well. I can TV from a chopper as well. I just like the way other games do it better. That's all.

                                Man, I'm tired. its 2am.
