POE2 is great, better IMHO than BF2 is as a standalone product. I persnally think the point somebody raised about stats is about right, people are trying to get lots of points for a game they will discard without blinking when the next big one comes along.

Free beer and pr0n would help

Seriously though, I'm waiting for only one mod, FH2. I prefer the WWII gaming.

The modmakers can blame stats or the lack of tools for modding and they have some merit but it comes down is the lack of real change/improvement and quality. There are enough players who don't care about stats/played BF mods in the past/want something new that a good mod will ride high no matter what.
Agreed that the stats arent the whole answer, however disagree passiontlly with the statement about lack of real change / improvement / quality.

Several mods are going for total conversion, best example to date is PoE. Change includes armies, weapons, vehicles and setting. Improvement in mods are vast from weapon accuracy and power too unnerfing the vehicles and supplying adaquate numbers of vehicles for the large maps, that currentlly vanilla fails miserablly on.

As for quality, the models and skinning in the mods is off a qaulity far surpassing DICE efforts - compare USI M1A1 to the vanilla equivilent and the AF A10 to usi's A10, the differnce in aesthetics of the two fall in USI's favour, while there gameplay additions, ie loadouts/trajectory of shells and armamnet tie in the whole package to give a superior product to vanilla.

Your opinion of these may differ from mine on what makes the game good is fair play.

But at the end of the day, BF2 is a middle ground game, I would even say pretty noob friendly, whereas the mods have a bit more of a learning curve, with the lethality of the weapons and added functionality - but they are definatelly worth playing.

Stats in any form, shape will affect gameplay in negative ways. Which is why I am throughly disappointed in POE crews decision. I would have sucked up the bad pill and stayed away from stat tracking and focused on the content. Ive played in games which dont have stat tracking that rewards or pust you in a ladder, it STILL made me play in a selfish manner.

The reason why mod community hasnt got much love from the players is because so far, the mods havent been THAT MUCH different from the BF2. And while a big chunk of players love the mods (I LOVE POE2), many, many players just arent drawn by the new content more, than BF2 stat tracking. They have played 1000 hours and just cant cut the progress. They have to start from scratch in other mods.

Fvck the stats, bite the bitter pill guys and come up with something that will create your own die hard fangroup.

the reason mods haven't taken off?

Because EA has created the horrendous stats system, so if the mod doesn't give them points (and none do) then why bother. Seems the vast majority only care about points and theirselves, screw teammates.

Hmm I don't understand why people say 'newbs' play for stats and not fun well haven't you guys thought of the fact that just mabye the idea of getting new ranks, awards and competitive edge is fun in itself, without the stats and ranking system a lot of people would most likely get bored of not having any real meaning to play. But thats not me I'm just saying, on th fact of MODs I just dont really like em'.

In the past week the amount of smacktards in a regular bf2 server has increased tenfold. Im so ready to ****ing quit Vanilla, and go straight to Dcon.

Honestly, I'm glad MODs like POE2 will not use the bf2 style system, I don't have to deal with smacktards crying about their stats and no ROE rules telling me how to run MY OWN SERVER.

POE2 is popular and is played in ladders (CAL is one of them) and pretty sure FH2, DCon and the next USI release will create a lot of buzz. I mean how long can you keep playing stock BF2 maps?
Pretty much sums up my opinion.

In all honesty the people that play for stats won't be missed here. I would rather have two or three populated servers per mod with players that play to have fun than 500 servers full of assholes any day of the week,

Poe 2 had a horrible and unexpected turnout. Less than 10 servers are regularly populated out of the 300 or so total.

It can be answered with one word, and many others have answered it - stats.

                            1) The mods are coming out way to late in the life of BF2 (it cant be helped though).

                            2) Some of them just arnt that good or are just not appealing.

                            3) The vannila stat system pretty much buggered up the mods from day one. one

                            I agree with answers 2 & 3.

ANd once Armed Assualt Comes out...Its Bye Bye BF2. (for me that is)

mods are all multiplayer - the best ones at the moment im aware of are POE2 and *forgotten*. I think that Desert conflict, if its not already out, will far and away surpass anything else (judging from the Dcon for BF42)
