It was the instacapping of flags that was the real problem - 2 guys in 2 vodniks could take down the BH in short order. The problem was that only one guy would get credit for all six kills, and the other guy didn't even get assists, so teamwork was fostered on the one side and discouraged on the other.

That's right, I was thinking of the flag capturing with the fully loaded BH.

Anyways, my two cents. Pretty much the same as everyone has stated. BH whoring was somewhat cheap, but also incorporated the most teamwork I've seen in the game, and was extremely fun. I remember each BH squad member on VOIP (and kicked or TKed if they didn't) actually calling out infantry, tanks, Vodniks and especially the MEC flying whale.

As far as the MEC side goes, it sucked being killed by the beast, but was such a joy when you took out some of the soldiers in it. I especially loved ramming the belly of the BH with the flying whale. That would always set up a round of whining from the BH campers.

Ahh yes, the days of flying from flag to flag on Mashtuur in a Blackhawk with an entire squad, everyone getting points for capturing the flags. Those were the days...

When a Special Ops use to be able to jump. He could throw a C4 on top of the flag pole, hide and wait for a fully loaded chopper to come by and the Special Ops blew the C4 and get the instant kills.

DICE's fix was just to completely nerf the BH squad option.

They should have...

1. Lowered the splash and direct damage of the miniguns.

2. Required all "passengers" to exit the vehicle to cap assist, but pilots and gunners should be able to retain their seats. Although for realism someones feet should at least touch the ground.

3. When getting back into a vehicle you should get back into the seat you were in before, not the pilot seat, then the gunner 1, then gunner 2 etc., it should be your last seat used.

4. Improve the PLA and MEC choppers in speed, armour, and firepower to EQUAL the BH.

5. Balance APC / FAV etc gunfire vs. the transport choppers such that 2 of either could down it with say 8 secs of constant hits (even with 4 engys repairing).

Enough nerfing to make it quite challenging, but still a viable option.

I was literally disgusted with DICE's solution. It wasn't a fix at all. It was a short cut hack to a more complex problem, which was imbalance of transport chopper types etc. At least previously 1 team had a useable transport chopper, now none do.

Although the dropping mines got me more tks than kills, and then throw a mine out and the pilot lands on it!! 5 tks, say goodbye, your kicked, hehe.

Yeah BH whoring was cool, but 99% of the time if you werent on the US side you would lose.
It was only fun for the guys in BH honestly.
Sometimes you would load the map and all the flags would already be gone..
Sometimes Clans/groups of people would TK for the BH...
Good times..

Honestly it was really cheap, but how they nerfed it was not the answer.

I find it amusing how most users here seem to praise the UH-60 before it got nerfed by DICE. After all, DICE decided to reduce the effectiveness of the UH-60 since it was the community that demanded the UH-60 to be nerfed. I remember several threads that discussed about it, and from my memory, almost half of the members wanted the UH-60 to be nerfed. Flashforward to the present and now I'm reading posts in which most are actually praising the UH-60, claiming how they miss the "good old days", and how the UH-60 wasn't devestating as it could be shot down with "moderate" effort...if you believe having 3 .50 caliber machine guns or a six member AT team shooting at the target is "moderate".

Same with the missiles back in 1.00; it was crap, but now I'm reading posts in which pilots claim it took "skill". The question is, are the missiles supposed to be working or does the pilot have to position their aircraft so that it is impossible for the missiles to miss the target?

Then there's the grenade launchers, I'm sure by now you got the idea I'm trying to convey. If there's one characteristic I learned about game communities is that if they can't win, they will whine. And all can't win since half must lose and half must win. The winners will zip their mouths while the losers will come to forums and rant verbosely and poorly about a weapon they believe is "unfair, unskilled, or too easy".

What we would do if we were on the pla or mec side we would get a squad up there (say on mashtuur) to the us gas station and take over their BH, and usually not take the spawn so if we went down we would have access to the bh again.

If we just wanted to silence the BH we would just go up there and cap the flag and defend it and be done with it. Not saying that you're not right but there were definite ways around it.

Even after they nerfed the repair rate, flag cap and BH armor it was still a beast. I vividly remember me and my brother playing together on a server with a post-BH nerf rape fest. The map was Wake 2007. He was a medic/pilot and I was an engineer gunner.

It was funny actually because after all of the nerfs mentioned above NOBODY used the BH anymore! It was insane. That thing would be just sitting on the carrier with nobody giving it a second thought.

So me and my brother loaded up in to the BH and set off on one of the most vicious rape fests I have ever participated in. We basically cruised around Wake near where China camps and minigunned them in droves. If we got damaged we'd take evasive action I'd hop on the back and repair up back up to full.

Skip ahead about 14 minutes and I'm over 100 kills (if not more). So many Chinese were bitching screaming "Hack!" and "WTF?". Right before my eyes we killed the server as it went from 64 players 32 versus 32 to something like 30 players with 28 of those being on the USMC team. Only time I've ever seen an entire team just quit like that. You'd think these players had never seen the power of the BH gun before.

Interesting little story and it does highlight how massively overpowered that gun was. On that Wake round I still remember spraying the gun at the island that was barely visible through the fog aiming for the flag icons and killing a bunch of people. Again though the nerf was too much and they should've just dropped the splash damage radius and lowered the overall direct damage a tad and it would've been absolutely kosher.

BH whoring made Mashtuur a joke. I'd see games where the BH would just circle the Hotel point and rack up an absolute crapload of kills. Stick an engineer in it and you could forget about ever killing it.

It's still kinda fun when you put a support in it and 2 spec ops in the back. C4 carpet bombing = victory!
