Um doesnt joy to key just make it possible that you can use the switch atop ya joystick ??"hat"?? to use as free look?
So instead of holding Alt and moving mouse armound to look out the cockpit you can use the switch key thingy (hat?) to look around?
Come on..big deal, how does this affect anyone? This is totally unlike macro users.

It CAN do a whole lot more than that... But even bu using just that part, you are in a distict advantage over others who use the same joystick, but without that program, who have to reach for their mouse... But I see your point... Macro program users are cheaters, joy2key is a great program... **** the ROE..! Right..?

So if I run Autohotkey for my spreadsheets, and forget to turn it off before loading Battlefield 2 - I risk having my account banned by PunkBuster?

Nostromo? G15? Any Logitech programmable mouse or joystick?

            Interesting....

No, but you would be kicked by punkbuster... It is only when you tyry to hide the process from punkbuster that you would get a hardware ban... Meaning you will not be able to play any game you buy which includes punkbuster on that computer...

Nope, these won't because they paid off EA/DICE and actually promote BF2142. Therefore only freeware programs like Autohotkey will be banned.

How long before the freeware JoyToKey will be banned as well?

What about Ventrillo and Teamspeak as well? They allow us to talk between squads giving us an unfair advantage.

Or what about Xfire as well?

Punkbuster should be spendnig their time banning the hackers. The macro script kiddies can be stopped by making HARD-CODED delays at the server end, just like how WoW did. The problem is EA/DICE don't want to do the programming and thus they are taking the easy way out.

Now the quesiton is, is this legal even with us agreeing to the EULA since Autohotkey is not modifying game files, does Punkbuster have the right to disabled or disallow service? Someone who is a lawyer can answer that please.

There are legitament uses for macro programs like JoyToKey and AutoHotkey. Example:
                  • Allow you to paste an IP address into the IP connect dialog
                  • Allow you to paste text into the game
                  • Disable the Windows Keys so you don't get kicked to desktop when you accidentially press them
                  • Allow you spot using the cammo rose while flying by pressing a button on your joystick
                  • Allow you to use your HAT on your joystick to mouselook around (common in any other game)
                  • Allow you to say, "I'm sorry," using the cammo rose while using a joystick
                  • Type pre-canned phrases into chat, like "There's a claymore around the corner" or "Enemy near the Hotel" in squad or team chat.
                  • Because the game doesn't have a Queue to log into servers, having it double click on a server and then press the OK button in the Dialog-Full dialog box
                  • Press a single key to drop a claymore/c4/med pack or supply bag and then switch back to your main weapon

These are just sample of legitament uses of macros. To 'fix' prone spamming just make HARD-CODED delays at the server. Or when someone clicks 20 times per second, ignore the clicks at the server end or even the client side and put a maximum number of clicks per second like 3 or 4 - really simple programming.

So if Autohotkey is banned, what other freeware program will be next?

                      Re: Autohotkey banned by Punkbuster

AutoHotKey doesn't have any "legitimate" uses. If AutoHotkey didn't give people some kind of advantage (even as neutral as convenience) they wouldn't use it and it's really as simple as that.

AHK isn't just used for exploiting simple movement macros (such as crouch/prone spamming) either. I don't want to give people any ideas so I'm not going to mention the exact functions I'm referring to but let me just say that many other much more sinster macros can be created with AutoHotKey that absolutely do give you a distinct and massive advantage against other players (speaking of both vehicles and infantry). These more exclusive and less obvious macros make even the best crouch/prone spam macro look tame by comparison so don't doubt for a second it's a damn good thing Punkbuster is taking a stance against this form of cheating.

All I can hope is the G15 and other less popular programs are next up on the chopping block (yes, this includes JoyToKey).

I have to give you props...at least its all or nothing for ya. But my question is what of other 3rd party programs? You mentioned JoyToKey, but what about Teamspeak or Ventrillo? It allows me to speak to squad outside of my squad or even speak to others on the other team? Or what about Xfire? My manufacture of my video monitor gives me a program to adjust the brightness of my screen. This allows me to see enemy further than the 100 that you can normally see. How about that program?

Why don't they just not send the information to the client that you're not supposed to see. Or in this case limit the keystroke patterns so they only allow you say 3 - 4 clicks a second instead of 20? Change it so the mouse movement isn't instant (would probably fix those aimbotters who are actually modifying BF2 files/memory).

There are a bunch of techniques that they aren't using because they have already milked the BF2 cow and are working on the BF2142 cow.

The only way to truely have no 3rd party programs running would be to have their own operation system!!! LOL

Goodbye EA/DICE...I'm taking my money to the Quake Wars.

The way I see it as long as a utility does not emulate or reproduce certain core player actions (shooting, aiming, moving ect..) in Battlefield 2 that would've otherwise been impossible to do or have to have been done in a manual fashion or modify the game in some manner then it's fair game. A player cannot manually crouch and prone twenty times in a single second with a perfect 5 ms delay inbetween each action thus I consider any utility that would make such an action possible a cheat. The Battlefield 2 game options do not allow you render a permanant perfectly formed crosshair of your choosing precisely the center of the screen and thus any utility that would allow you to do such a thing is again a cheat. Please don't bring up players who put tape and other garbage on their screen because a rule against such behavior is unenforceable outside of a local competitive enviorment and thus invalid.

For example Ventrillo is a nice communication tool and can be helpful to a Battlefield 2 player but it is freely available to anyone who wishes to utilize it. More importantly Ventrillo does not replace or enhance a players skill or a required level of finger dexterity as a movement/combat macro/aimbot/wallhack would. In fact using a program such as Ventrillo can actually be a hinderance to a player as it creates an added difficulty of managing communication while continuing to manage all of the other aspects in BF2.
