I'm bitching because they're using rather brutal, easy , fast method to fix something that's after all, hole in the game.. and that fix will screw over totally innocent people in process, and isn't foolproof - after all, it just scans for certain programs - what's there to stop writing more macro programs, and have them go unchecked ? In the end, abusers can just go on with different software, while the people who use the most known (usually safest) softwares get the shaft.

I don't really care at all about this particular case .. but I'm more concerned with general attitude of how they're fixing it. It's just plain bad form

if this thread wasn't about "punkbuster scanning for autohotkey and kicking for having that program loaded into memory, in order to block macros", i'll just shut up and apologize for being misinformed and ranting for no reason

No, but if it will be forbidden.. Ohw well a 2 min. kick would also be good...
But the game should be equal for everyone well it isn't but as much possible. And of course by not completely changing the game as Dice did. With the weird delays though I'm used to them now.

It's just that people have a very negative image of macros and that's why they should be disabled for games in my opinion I only use them for other things not BF2 (anymore).

I have a G15 but I pity people who are that low to use it for BF2 as Dolphin Diving etc.

            Re: Autohotkey banned by Punkbuster

If you're playing BF2 you have no reason whatsoever to be running AutoHotKey or any other similar program in the backround. End of story.

Now Punkbuster needs to take the next step and ban ALL macroing software. This Logitech "profiler" junk especially. It'd be much more wise just to scan a users key combinations / mouse clicks and red flag repeated suspicious behavior that is impossible to do by hand. Things such as clicking the mouse button 20 times in a second.

If they don't ban the G15 keyboard n00bs because of corporate interests then that's really sad for all of us legitimate gamers. And if not I can't help but wonder how much money would these aimbot people have to give EA/DICE/PB for them to make an exception for their cheating software?

              Re: Autohotkey banned by Punkbuster

I agree that it should be either "all or none" (as in, if you ban AHK you need to ban the G15 software) but this stuff is really insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

I would much rather see PB putting their time and effort into stopping the multi-hacks that are sold through various sites.

I've played against people using macro software to dolphin-dive; they were no more difficult to kill than they people (like myself) who bounce around manually.

The danger of this, is that you think it is impossible, but by using a smart keysetup, I can do this easely... No macro or special hardware involved...
(which reminds me, I need to start deleting all my posts about how I do it. so I can keep my advantage)

See, the problem is more one of ignorance is bless... You don't know how to do it, so it must be impossible, so punkbuster, please ban...

I think punkbuster knows this too, so scanning running processes is the solution for now...

                  Rename the program. Problem solved.

I hate these rookie companies out there that rather then solving a potential problem at hand, they decide to penalize everyone. GJ you asses at PB.

Next month they'll ban the joystick...you watch.

I use J2K every time I play, and haven't been kicked once. So, I don't think so.

You should be, though I understand your motives to disagree with me... In the end... Why use it if it does not create an advantage for you..? This is a 3rd party program if ever I saw one... Worse than macro's in my view... Macro's make things go faster, joy2key creates whole new features...

I'm sure you love it and if you were to review the program, you'd give it maybe a 9 out of 10..? But maybe also read the ROE..? -
3.1.1 Players may not change (hack) any core games files or effectively change game settings by employing external programs or cheats for the purposes of giving themselves an unfair advantage over other players. This would include but not limited to: (a) Hacks and other 3rd party software.

First time i've ever known AHK to be detectable. In it's basic form, all it does is send keystrokes to a window when you press a activate button. It doesn't even intertwine with the program you're using. It's basically just being a virtual keyboard.

Dolphin Diving is just press your activate button, and it does Send {Jump Button}, Sleep delay, Send {Prone button}, Sleep delay, Send {Crouch button}, Sleep delay, Send {Jump button}, Sleep delay, Send {Prone button}, Sleep delay, wash, rinse, repeat.

Would be pretty evil if Punkbuster teamed up with games like Final Fantasy XI, where AHK-based macros run rampant, and do hundred-fold more damage to the game's mechanics. They currently have no ability to detect AHK on their own.
