This is the new trend in PC games - and the only way to prevent it from becoming the norm is if people don't buy products with advertising.

I hope that the profit-hungry decision makers are smart enough NOT to make it so dynamic that these ads update during rounds and at least are clever enough to only update them between rounds. BF-games are lag-laden enough as it is.

If they are going to put advertisements in the game - and it appears to be the case - I also hope they are considerate/intelligent enough to use ads that make sense in the context.
In an urban setting, I don't mind seeing ads for real products instead of fake imagined ones that are put there to make the cityscape look real. However, if they start placing billboards in places that wouldn't make sense in real life, then it reduces the believability/immersion of the game and that would be very unpleasant.

It is of course a challenge to see ads for crap that is very unlikely to be there far in the future. That too would be disruptive.

Misplaced outrage? I don't think that peoples outrage is misplaced at all....This is something that could be damaging to online games and if anything is misplaced it's your outlook..

well, i'm 40 and i will not buy the game.

they started with making everyone rent there servers at high rates to use unlocks and be ranked. then we had to buy sf for the extra unlocks to make game play even. then you had to download the new stuff from them for 10 buck. the hole time they where working on squeezing every last penny out of us and not fixing the game.

now they want to put ads in the game too. come on. i've had it with them. they can keep there game and there ads.

the only way to stop it is to hit them where it hurts, don't buy the game. people are not going to want to pay to put ads in a game when the game doesn't sell. if no one makes a stand now there will always be ads in game from now on. i'm sure the ads will get more intrusive as time goes by.

i own a business and you don't want to piss off your customers. but EA thinks people will just bend over and take it. i'm sure a lot will but i won't.

On topic, I have chosen to pass on BF2142 and any future EA games on principle: I understand that both the pro-advertisement and anti-advertisement advocates have supporting arguments, so I won't make the mistake of trying to change opinions since much has already been said and I would be redundant.

For what it's worth, I find the idea of advertisements in games particularly displeasing from an aesthetical perspective.

Hilarious stuff!! Like I said, if you are on a 56k modem with 16mb video card, in-game advertising is the least of your problems in playing 2142. Because 2142 (and BF2) really arent too forgiving in terms of requirements. The back of the BF2 box says 128kbps minimum, so 56k modem owners only have themselves to whine to.

This is just another example of you making assumptions. Many people can and do play Battlefield 2 online with a 56k modem and do just fine. Of course a large 64 player server with a high-ping kick is probably out of the question and they can't enable VOIP but otherwise they ping decently and the game is perfectly playable provided that they keep every drop of their available bandwidth free for the game. That however would be impossible if they were forced to download a bunch of ads during the gameplay or during the loads.

No I won't be buying BF2142 at current for a combination of reasons and the dynamic ads are just another bullet point in that list. The main reason I won't be buying BF2142 is the gameplay is a major step back from BF2 in many respects and they really did a fantastic job dumbing the game down.

P.S. why are you bitching and whining about it in a BF2 forum anyway, when theres a whole thread about it in the 2142 beta forums which EA and DICE actually read?

DICE reads this forum plenty. Plus I enjoy intellectually destroying individuals such as yourself. It's almost as much ownage as when I actually play the games we are discussing. Though with you it isn't that difficult to do since you seem to enjoy taking it up the rear from these dynamic ad streaming companies that are invading countless games. Actually I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you worked for said company considered the quality of the rimjob you seem to be giving them which is sad because that puts you below other annoying bottom feeding trash careers such as telemarketers.
