Re: The support/Medic bag nerf..let the whining begin.
I think one thing we all need to step back and distinguish, myself included, is that a pack is only as good and honorable as the person using it. Medic packs aren't bad, but they can be abused, but so can any pack. Last night I was Commanding in Kark on a FF off server I freqnuent, this n00b on my own team uses a SpecOp pack to harrass me, since FF is off he can't just kill me so instead he plants C4 under me and blow me up. I fly in to the air and by the time I realize what's happened I'm street pizza. He continues to do this for two whole rounds. So do I think the SpecOps pack should be changed? No, I think his ability to play should be changed. (i.e. he should be banned)
I use the medic pack the right way, I heal and revive my teammates first, then I focus on fighting. The only place I'll "spam" is a high traffic area with a pack so that if one of my boys is rushing for the flag and gets hit he'll have a better chance of recovering.
That being said I see the potential problem, so I'm willing to comprimise:
- Make it so medics can heal themselves, but only by holding their medic bag and not by throwing it down and picking it up, make it so only teammates can do that now.
- Limit the packs to 2 at a time, but make the reload instant. This way I can spam one pack for my team in a key position and still have one for myself. If I need it I can throw it down for a teammate who's hurt near me and if I throw another down the first dissapears. Remember for medics who use the pack the right way the object of the game is to stay alive so they can heal to prevent their teammates from dying and subsequently revive them if they do. A dead medic is no good to anyone.
- I'm also willing to allow other classes such as AT and Assault to get more points because they can't get support ones. I personally think AT should get a lot more than 2 points for killing a tank/apc. Because a tank or APC can just decimate infantry. As for the "the tanker jumps out before his tank blows up" problem, it could be simply solved by making the critera a little creative. So make it to get the points the AT had to have A) already had some damage to the tank in question, B) the tanker had to have jumped out of the tank within 10 seconds before it blew.
But please try to remember, the problem isn't the pack it's the people using it. Any pack can be abused.
That's what makes the medic class so popular. Scratch that, such a n00b class.
