A good discussion. Personally (and as someone who rarely pilots jets) I think it would be acceptable to add some more mobile AA to Clean Sweep for example. Planes and choppers have plenty of water to fly safely over.. As it is I try to avoid that map these days. Pilots always seem to be getting 25 to 1 ratios. I hate being strafed out of an AA position before a jet is even visible. ;-)
As someone else said they might reduce hit points of jets further, increase their spawn time to something more annoying (he he), increase range of Stingers, and maybe even take away their uber HUD showing all ground targets. Sheesh. That HUD alone makes flying jets like God mode.
I beleive the problem regarding increasing AA and the effects on helicopters has been discussed before. What could happen is that armour on planes is reduced, with armour on choppers staying the same, and perhaps and increase in AA range so that it matches TV guided range. ATM though a jet can shoot me with a cannon out of AA even if I saw him first because despite seeing him visually I cannot get a lock at that range. THis can be a little frustrating to say the least, its hard enough staying alive in AA against a plane who is in range.
The problem is that planes lack a real counter measure, something that will make them at least somewhat wary of confronting it. For examples, tanks will avoid mines, as they will kill with one hit, similarly 2 c4 and they're toast. Nothing really puts a plane at a disadvantage, at the most they are equal terms with mobile AA and other planes (except with the j-10 issue) and static AA is really a death trap. Also, continuing my comarison with tanks, another way of racking up large amounts of kills while remainig relatively safe from gorund troops, they cannot dirrectly deal with their counter measures, if there is a mine the tanks can't just shoot it, the engineer has to get out and disarm it, maiking him vulnerable.
It just that very rarley do you get 2 stingers off that hit before you die. THis means the pilot can go and repair with little effort. It is wquite disheartening to spend alot of time in AA (or near it, so as not to present a target) hitting it with two missiles, if you're lucky and watching it fly of an come back as if nothing had happened. Its not that I'm bothered about my score, its just that its terminally boring and very frustrating. Its not as if any half decent pilot is going to let you live long enough to reload and shoot another couple off.
Any efforts to improve AA would mean helipcopters would be screwed, similarly with the increase of more mobile AA. I don't mind pilots going 25-1 per se, palnes should be able to destroy ground targets with ease. It just that this huge destructive powers seems to be accopanied by a high level of impunity.
I would even be happy if i could just shoot at planes I could see through the vision scope on the AA and perhaps removing AA emplacements from huds (not all vehicles as suggested, this would be too much), leaving plane armour as it is.
EIther make planes armour slightly weaker, and perhaps reduce A2A missile damage to compensate for effect in dofighting, or:
Increase AA range to what it used to be and remove static AA from planes HUD so that you may have a chance of living long enough to shoot a plane down. The pilot will still get a lock tone and be able to fly away/drop flares and evade the missiles, and repair at base if the gets hit by one or two.
EDIT: But there are more important issue that need addressed at the moment and it won't be catastophic if it isn't changed.
