I now have to memorize exactly where EVERY AA site is and be much more aware of that when flying. Right now, if I get a tone from a certain area, I just drop flares, circle around and gun him down since it's nicely highlighted with the target box.

    Just my 2 cents.

I find that sarcasm is the only way you can deal with kids like that. He's so proud of himself in his unethical form of play that it really makes me sad:cry:

Why a again another nerf treath.

It's the player who make the difference not the plane.
you can have a pro tanker or a noob tanker who is death in 10 seconds or a pro tank who can handle 20 people first when he die

it really is chalked up to skill...
you take any one of the peeps who have flown simulators and drop them into a flight vehicle in bf2, they will adapt to the differences and exploit the similarities.

They need to make it harder to lock onto a target while in a Jet, but make the missles actually do what they do IRL. Also need to make the IGLA's a hell of a lot stronger, or give them more rounds to fire off. It is near impossible to shoot down anything short of a Blackhawk with an IGLA. If you disagree then simply look at how many kills are made each round of Wake with the IGLA compared to how many vehicles are in the air. Its maybe 1/10th effective against Aircraft.

I just wish more of the vanilla maps had an additional Linebacker/Tunguska or two depending on fighters or bombers.

if the anti-air missiles worked by proximity there wouldnt be any problems... maybe.

ffs i have to keep saying this, bf2 is vehicle based - noobs have already had most of the vehicles nerfed or upset previous balances, if you suck so much that you cant use AA then dont whine at the game get some skills, im sick of people trying to turn this into an infatry only game when that isnt what its meant to be

Re: Jets Need To Go Away

How about keeping everything as it is but make it so 1 AA missile is insta kill for jets and 2 missiles for choppers. I think it's the best solution yet since, you can't possibly balance it otherwise or you'll create other problems.

For one, with AA it's already hard to hit a jet, and usually when you fire the 2 missiles they will miss or one will hit. 1 hit insta kill will make pilots be more careful of divebombing since they know if they miss, they are likely toast. Same with jet VS. jet 1 shot should be insta kill. This way the power of jets will be reduced not by beefing up the AA but simply by reducing the amount of damage it takes to take down a jet. Pilots will still do their thing but they will most likely be more careful knowing they could die if they miscalculate or don't pay attention.

Anyways I think it's the best solution because, as I said, nerfing something or beefing up another thing will only create problems elsewhere and there will still be whining but from different people. My solution will make sure that the pilots who survive in the airs are the fittest and not the ones who simply get out of range of AA the quickest.

Sigh. Jets are unbalanced in terms of the amount of points and the k:d ratios you can get - its self-evident: Do you ever see infantry get the scores a pilot gets? How about a tank? No. On the average pilots get more points and higher K : Ds than all other players. Some argue that Pilots are skilled this is why they have higher scores / K : Ds. This implies that the pilots are more skilled at flying than the infantryman is skilled at playing infantry. There's no objective way to test this but I'm willing to say this is BS.

So it's not Skill that explains the difference in scores / K : D.

Then the argument says 'if other players chose to dedicate themselves to eradicating air power this problem wouldn't exist'. That isn't the point - the point is that the average pilot when there are No mitigating factors can score hugely in comparison to other players. There are no analagous circumstances for the infantry player or the tanker; they can Never achieve such scores under any circumstances.

Some go on to say that a Jet should be more deadly - its a Jet! In realty this is true; as an overall threat, jets are quite lethal in comparison to everything else. Regardless, this is a game, and if we accept this statement, we are also accepting that in Battlefield, some approaches to playing should be better than others (assuming the point system is meant to measure Better) - its ok that a plane being what it is is the best path to points; therefore if you want the best score, to be the best battlefield player, you should be a pilot. Is that the type of game the community as a whole wants? A ****-poor flight simulator with some ground stuff thrown in for good measure? I think the core principle of Battlefield is Balance in all ways. Rock, Paper, Scissors - not Rock, Paper, MicroNuke.

So, provide a mechanism that brings the average Pilot score into balance, or stop misrepresenting the game.

                        Possible solutions:

Increase spawn times for Jets - scoring capability remains the same but is calculated over a smaller period of time in comparison to other approaches - evening things out.

Increase re-arming time for Jets - same as above.

Make Jets 'harder' - this attempts to reduce the scoring potential of Jets by making using them harder. Not very palatable since it potentially introduces more unrealism into the game and makes pilots have to learn fresh unlike everyone else (though it should be noted that adjustments to weapon accuracy are the same approach used for infantry)

Distinguish Jet scores from all other scores: Elminate the problem by eliminating the problem. Very difficult to make work in practice.

Make Jet counters more effective - this is not a solution either, since part of the problem is that Jets quite often have free reign over the battlefield where they are unopposed. Unlike infantry, tanks or helis, each of which can be effectively killed by any number of means, the Jets can only be killed by AA and themselves. And these have a behavioral dependency in that certain players have to want to fly or man AA in order to bring them down. Let me make this very clear as its a critical point: If I choose to play an Assault, a Sniper, Medic or any class, and carry out that class' functions, I am still able to deal with or damage any Infantry/Vehicle/ and almost always Heli threat that I face regardless of how much I feel like dedicating myself to that task. But only if I choose to sit in an AA turret/vehicle or fly a plane can I do anything to a Jet. So this would only work if there were some way to deal with Jets without having to dedicate myself to the task. Give portable AA to everyone, make AI driven SAM sites for example. None of this is going to happen because it costs resources to make it.

There are other solutions I'm sure, but its better to just hope this problem is addressed in the next game be it 2142 or BF3

True, but as far as total points I've seen equaled or surpassed more often than not - as I said above. And like I said in my earlier post, jets are pretty easily avoided as long as you keep your distance from flags (unless you have to) and armor. They are not a problem if you play the game intelligently

I don't really care about jets having huge scores, although I enjoy knowing how I play, I don't paly for stats and don't care if someone else is getting alot better stats then me. The more I think about it, the mor ei think the simplest solution is to remove ground AA from HUDs, increase the range to that which is visible (a pilot thant can see you can kill you, so you should be able to at least shoot back!), and maybe, if DICE could manage it, to randomize AA placement at flag between 2 or 3 locations.

But, lets face it, its never going to happen, and things seem to have improved somewhat from what I rememebr them to be, where on some maps you'd last about 5 minutes max in a tank before dying.

Sadly the stats system isn't granular enough to prove or disprove the point theory either way. You claim to have seen it and I claim to have not. So we'll just have to ignore this point.

But I don't care about avoiding jets intelligently or not - I don't care about getting bombed by planes its part of the game; I certainly don't care if you're smarter than I am - I care about the fact that the scoring I've seen proves that by a country mile the best way to score points and kills consistently in Battlefield 2 is to fly a jet. In other words, the best battlefield 2 players are pilots. IMO Every activity should provide an equal opportunity for scoring; not necessarily the same way, but at the same level. The system is rife with problems in this area, Jets are simply the worst case.
