I think the problem is that EA/DICE released the patch early because of the 3000 posts demanding its release NOW! and not when they were ready.

The community bitches and whines about the fact the way a new patch, they scream till they are blue in the face because they want something fixed NOW! but they dont think is the patch ready?

No do EA/DICE release a 90% completed patch now and think we will do a 1.31 over the next few days and fix the last 10% just to keep these impatient buggers happy.
they didn't whine for it. the only we wantend to know when would the patch came out.

Man his 300 servers are all configured incorrectly? that dude sucks.

I played on about 20 servers yesterday and not 1 of them crashed, they were all EA Official servers so I guess they have some uber server hack that makes them uncrashable? I KNEW IT!

No one was demanding this patch. I think most were dreading it because they knew this would happen. I know I wanted them to take as long as possible.

Now that they have screwed the game up, of course we want it fixed right away.

trust me dude after reading 1000 posts about "We want the 1.3 patch NOW!!!" I know there was demanding going on for the patch.

And another CTD, PB manual update and cache flush wont solve it. Maybe full on top of the incremental will. bbl.

              Re: Setting some facts straight.

Hi guys - tried out the patch last night and to be honest, 'yes' there were a lot of moans and groans AT FIRST on my clan server - but then, gradually, people began to settle down - squad up properly and get on an started winning games!

My main issue is not that the patch 'breaks' anything - but ONLY that the new squad system gives a little more advantage to defenders on known 'defensive' maps where you need to get to the rear to win (particularly the island maps).

While EA has done this to make us do better teamwork AND to make the game a little more realistic, they have (IMHO) forgotten one thing...

Let's look at the island maps -

Co-ordinated landing forces are what are required here - but the continual over-strong airpower makes it very difficult to get a Blackhawk onto the island, and even when it does it carries so few men that a landing can soon be wiped out (one good arty strike is all it takes sometimes).

What EA have forgotten is that in the REAL world armies have things like C130s or heavy lift choppers like Chinooks to get a lot of feet on the ground at one time...

And this is what is missing in BF2.

While the commander can airdrop vehicles (fantastic btw!) - why weren't the troops allowed to parachute in en-masse from a C130 Hercules transport as an option????

This wouldn't unballance the game as the defending aircraft/aa missles would still have a fair chance of shooting one of these down.

(In fact I would of thought jet jockies would love this idea as can you imagine the points you would get if you took one of these down! LOL)

To be fair, I think a Chinook (or USMC Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight) would be great and, say, with the ability to land TWO squads instead of one would be fair.

This would make rear insertions (oh nurse!) much more viable.

But aside from this - yay 1.3!

I agree with the configurations' issue. I remember when Valve rolled out steam, lots of folks, including myself had connection issues, d/cs. I didn't go as far as to bash, but I did blame valve. But later on I listened to some advice and updated my router firmware. All connection problems solved.

This SL change is very very good, but it needs 2 other changes to truly make it viable. [1]Squad Leader rewards, and [2] Reduction in air dominance to allow infantry to survive with some cover. (Pole dancing cobras, mass AoE Mi-28s, 5-bomb kablooeys...)

Claim: The patch is not finished and shouldn't have been released.

Observation: Every time a patch comes out, people report problems with installing, crashing, and various flavors of woe. What people should be remembering is that this happens EVERY TIME, no matter how stable the patch is. People do odd things to their systems then are shocked when the patch fails OR assume that because they are now crashing, the patch caused it. Generally these problems can be sorted out by a little user knowhow.
Please don't do this... Have you played any other games beside BF2?

The various hardware/software configurations in the PC world is something every developer has to work around and some bugs are inevitable but defending DICE is just plain wrong.

Creating more than one patch that cannot be installed if the windows user name has special characters (åä&#246 is not acceptable.

Releasing patches that require your C: drive to have more free space than the entire game takes up to even install the game because they chose to use the "ProgramFilesDir" variable instead of unzipping the patch onto the same drive as the game is not acceptable.

Having crash to desktop issues that aren't purely client side is not acceptable.

Not realising that prone spamming is still possible if you use the duck button to get up is not acceptable.

Not being able to correct a bug that make you're teammates appear as enemies and vice versa after slightly less than a year is completely laughable and is a strong indicator that dice has no idea what so ever about how their engine works.

I could go on but but that is pointless. I'm asking you to not make stuff up Wargimp you should definately know better than that. I enjoy the game but I will never ever defend Dice's inability to release code that at least come close to the stability of other games.

As a matter of fact, I'm a huge gamer.

One of my altime favorites was Tribes... and then Tribes 2.
Both games are great examples of "it could be worse". T2 was fantastic, but they never resolved the dreaded Unidentified Instruction (UI) bug that inevitably dumped you out to desktop.

Tribes:Vengeance shows us just how lucky we are as BF2 players. My god. OH MY GOD! The whole damned thing was released in a beta state... and never got a bloody patch. Well, one came out, but it basicly just made the game work well enough to show you how bad everything else was.

Then there was another personal favorite... Neverwinter Nights. A game that was so amazingly flakey en exploite ridden, I was forced to write fixes for it myself.

Quake 4... walked away from that one perty quick. Bad net code, brain dead gameplay, rotten community. I gave it back to the buddy I borrowed it from (he didn't want it either).

Side note: I just played a full map rotation cycle on the R2 server and didn't have a single hic-up. Since the guys patched it, it has crashed zero times.

Apparently Krysiss's guys have some work to do.

                              Re: Setting some facts straight.

Good points you make Wargimp and overall I'd generally agree with 'calm down' message but......

EA are due to walk away from BF2 anyday now. If it was a case of hotfix the server browser issue in a couple of days, fine we'd all know it would be sorted and quickly. Now EA are not paying any attention their all too busy working on 2142.

What response has there been from Dice/EA as a result of the patch? I mean nothing, from EA UK you get nothing out of their community people.

I'd be surprised if you saw a hotfix, unless Armoured Fury really sells big time I'd be AMAZED to see a further patch.

So that was it, no J10 fixing, no other issues addressed, just a buggy server browser more instability, and a feature (vehicle drop) that no one wanted. That's how BF2 is going to be left?

I'm aware that EA are commercial but a couple of coders and a good community person, surely that can be financed by ranked servers? I mean even if someone from EA said 'look this isn't worth our while, we have to produce a game and move onto the next one' something anything but silence.....

                              No wonder people are angry.

I noticed on some other forums that people who installed the Incremental patch were experiencing the lions share of problems.

My 1 CTD was directly after I installed the full 1.3 patch very first time I get in there it CTD me but I tried again and its fine, no lag issues, no server crashes.......nothing......
I too installed the full patch - after uninstalling BF2 and SF, and then reinstalling - and had just the one crash (to blue screen) on first loading, after that it was ok. The server browser is a bit flimsy, but that seemed to improve after I restarted the game. My "verifying client data" time seems to be the same or sometimes a bit faster than before too.
