Personally, when BF2 first came out...I started keeping my eye open for the SL so I can stop the respawn...but when sqwapping came along..it was pointless.
I haven't tried the new patch...but when I heard that they were going to nerf sqwapping...I knew it didn't sound good.
Teleporting from squad to squad in the after...life... um,
Wait, is that John Travolta from Stayin' Alive in your sig?
Bwahaaa!
HAA
Yeah you just said Teleporting was unrealistic from squad to squad, yet everytime you SPAWN you do it between flags, what's the difference???? You're a couple fries short of a happy meal dude.
Yeah, that is Travolta in my sig, Saturday Night Fever baby!
Yeah, go ahead and make fun of my sig. That's what people do when they have lost all other ability to carry on a rational thought. Why don't you say something about my mom next, or say something about the size of my d*ck. Come on, you know your 15 year old brain can do it.
Oh and for the record I don't think of it as an exploit.... Fish Flopping was an exploit, C4 chucking was an exploit. Both things that gave those who were able to do them (or macro'ed them) a significant advantage over those who didn't or couldn't do them. Anyone and everyone could squad hop/cycle it didn't give ANYONE an advantage.
\
My personal opinion is that fish flopping is almost exactly the same type of exploit that squad cycling is (not against squad hoping).
Prone wasn't supposed to be used that way but people started to abuse the little quirk with macros and fast fingers. IMHO the same thing can be said for SL hopping. Everyone did have the ability to hit prone/stand/shoot just as good as everyone else (though macros helped), just as everyone had the ability to squad hop/cycle. Everyone also had the opportunity to chuck C4 but it was lame and obviously not intended by EA/DICE... thus an exploit.
If you put one full squad that SL cycles against one that does not, everything else being equal the advantage is to the cycling squad. Even though everyone could at one time, chuck c4, fish flop, squad hop/cycle doesn't mean its not an exploit...
I also will throw in that EA should have done a better job with the patch, crashes and other technical issues is a big problem for everyone wether you agree or disagree with the hopping issue.
It was a 64 Map of Karkand, and it was FULL. The game was horrifically slow. Now armor rules that map with ease since they are SOOO much faster than everyone else now. The squad hopping allowed you to somewhat keep up with armor.
Wth? They didn't change the speed vehicles or of running dude. And you shouldn't be able to teleport all around the map like you're frickin captain kirk.
Squad hopping was cheap ****, with no regrets I can tell you that I would hop squads constantly...I mean it was nothing more than opening up the map and finding a SL in a place I want to be and join their squad uninvited to spawn on them and leave the squad as soon as possible.
BUT THANKFULLY DICE HAS REMOVED THIS.
This was the reason for removing the "exploit".
There was no teamwork to it, you just whored the SL's mobile spawn ability to avoid having to actually walk/take a vehicle to the fight.
Now in 1.3 being a squad leader has to be more tactically thought out...you don't just rush into the middle of ****, get your ass blown off and then cycle out. You find a good position to let your teammates spawn off you...MAYBE KEEP A MEDIC AROUND TOO.

So teleporting between flags is any different than teleporting between squad leaders?? I fail to see the difference.

omg when will you people get real, how often do you think publicplayers care about squads? They just want a spawnpoint then they dont give a **** about you. this whole argue is about those who have real argues why to keep spawnjumping and those who have nothing at all but believe in petty words and the " i just met jesus"-attitude.
So I played last night for a good while, and the game is now slow and the maps take longer to finish. Why you ask?? Squad hopping is gone.
It's slower yes, but it's not like it was that great to begin with. From my pubbing experience, 99% of the people that play this game don't know how to play the game. I hardly ever see squad hopping from pubbers. The only one's that know how to properly do it anyway, were the competition players.
For example, I was playing on Wake (pre-patch) and there were 10-20 times a round where I'd see 1 damn guy at a flag with no squad. There were also full squads of 6 parachuting from the chopper over and over yet made no attempt to make their own squads once they hit the ground.
People are clueless. It's good that EA took the ability out because 99% of the people that play this game don't even know what the hell they're doing and didn't even use it.
Taking out squad hopping benefits the players who aren't very good (noobs) and the skilled players. If someone starts shooting towards someone, and they run away, bam here come 4 guys (in a match at least, never see this in a pub, ever). 4v1 in a matter of 5-10 seconds. That's not skill, it's just some noob feature DICE orginally put in and now has taken it out. No squads rewards teams that have more skill now. Better players don't need 3 guys coming off them to take out 1 or 2 in their way. As for the noobs, when your pubbing, you probably won't get run over by teams that had people on them that knew what they were doing.
Besides, it was a useless feature because the majority of the bf2 pubbing community is clueless as to how to use the feature. So, might as well take it out.
From what I've seen (since pubbing 1.3) it has made the gameplay a big cow herd fest. Everyone is bunched up in one place fighting on basically 1 front.
the first month of BF2........and even longer really, no one squad hopp'd. I mean not even by accident. I dont remember this being a problem.....
Having squad hoppin' was cool, when everyone figured it out. But it wasnt the same BF2, i started playing though.
Just relax and deal with it. I still say the lack of TeamWork, is what made squad hopp'n famous. Now that its gone, most dont wanna work to make a win.
Thats kinda sad.

This is a real good post guys.
BF2 as in the other BF titles, are about war and the use of many vehicals to do so. Its not your typical first person shooter, like unreal, counterhack, and other games like that. Regardless how you feel, war takes on some sort of tactical solution to achieve goals. As a squad leader you sorta SHOULD take care of yourself so your guys can keep up the fight. Before you could go in blazzin' guns and if you got killed.........who cares. Well that mentality is the mentality of those "other" games, not one of the BF series.
I've played much of the 1.3 patch and to be honest, i notice NO DIFFERENCE in gameplay. Course i usually pick a squad, work with a squad, and maintain and use every weapon that i can choose, to maintain the squad.
If you dont do this........of course you'll hate the recent nerf of squad hopping. Course then again......maybe you should quit bf2 and head on down to some half life.
The problem is that in 1942 one person could cap the flag just as fast as 15, even if there was enemys in the flag radius.
now, one person trying to cap a flag takes several minutes, with squad hopping you could get those extra people there to make it cap faster.
It should be back to the BF1942 way, maybe with some cap acceleration for more people, but thats really the only way to balance this.
Back when they released the details of this patch, I predicted that the game will take a new direction and that the gameplay would be changed definitely! (search my posts)

you will see that most people don't like this new patch. For various reasons surely. Now to those of you who argue for this feature, then go ahead and try to convince people that it encourages teamwork. But you're still lacking the idea that people will be less likely to play the game if they don't like it overall. I don't like this patch. I hate it. Not only for the fact that people can't squad hop (I liked it, but I hated it being abused) but for the fact that it would affect the people that just normally want to join a squad. Or just decide to join a squad. The perfect time to do this is while you're dead. Now you can't. Less squads will make less squad members. Less Squad members will mean less squad tactics. Less squad tactics will mean less teamwork among groups and more as a whole, which rarely happens. Which will mean less people enjoying the game. Which means less servers. Which means less profits for not only EA (which I predict the game will be huge only until a little after christmas, and then drop in sales) which means less EA servers which means less people on these forums which means the game will die faster. Go ahead and add all that up for yourself.
This thread wouldn't be as large as it is already if people didn't think this game a 'less fun' than it was b4 the patch. With the amount of people that hate it, they made a mistake. I would say the ATLEAST the majority would have to like it.
Patches were meant to be fixes for the game. Why suddenly change this game THIS MUCH after a year it's been out. I mean I like how to fix SOME gameplay features to adjust for the way the bf2 community plays the game to their benefit. But the tick of the gaming community will kill the community.
