with each patch we get closer to the glory days when exploiters didn't complain because there were few exploits.

(though the patch did have its share of bugs)

So, it's pretty much the argument of: The remote control is broken, I don't want to get up to change the channel...compared to: Squad hopping is broken, I don't want to walk...order up one of those buggies or Hummers that can be Fedex'd and will always be on time...

Well the guys who have played BF1942 have had to walk the desert of El Alamein. There are long walks, but it's not going to kill you! (unless a B-17 comes by)

The game is not slower. The game is different. Squad leaders don't have to 100% avoid firefights, but should use caution...pretty much like EVERYONE else should be using caution/judgement when entering a gunfight.

Understood, but squad hopping has been in for 10 months and JUST NOW it's being taken out? Why not make it a server side OPTION so the owner could decide if he wanted it on his server or not?

i agree they waited WAAAYYY too long to fix the spawn leader exploit, but i still don't think it should be server-side option.

question: can mods change it back the way it was or was this fixed in the engine?

So your feelings are misguided at best.

I would agree with you 100% if ONLY unranked server have the option to turn a game into a SQ-Hopfest. It goes the same for Knife only servers, if people find it fun to knife each other to death, by all means, set up a unranked server and everyone's happy.

Most of the exploits on ranked servers are the exact stuff that makes the stats system so meaningless.

Personally I like it this way, especially on Karkand. Half the bozo's spawn at the arti point and immediately charge on down the hill, dying many times as they mindlessly try to get to the Hotel. The other half spawn back at the nocap for the vehicles. Usually one sniper will head up the hill. Sometimes one spec op will hug the wall and try to cross the water.

While MEC is beating back everyone at the hotel for 10 minutes, I'll avoid it all and take a small squad deep in for a quick flag cap or eliminate command assets. Or I'll let the first wave of vehicles duke it out, wait for the first dead jeep to respawn and then blow right by the hotel to get a distant flag. Just need one flag in town to break up the MEC players and then methodically wear them down. If I'm MEC, I watch out for people like me. I'll get low points that round but the US never gets a foothold.

Squad hopping and all these other weak complaints....bah, just play smarter. Unorthadox tactics, etc. Don't follow the herd.

Re: BF2 is now a 'slow' game...

well, we have our 1st 5v5 infantry match, post 1.3, tomorrow night.

And of all maps, its on Karkand, and we have MEC 1st. So we'll see as the US decends on the hotel, gets naded / shot to heck and back, and then has to come from their main again. CO and 1 SL will have to repeat that every round, no matter what. They can attempt to split the squad with the other 3, but in combat it'll be futile.

Now to wonder if suiciding and joining that guy flanking to their main is worth the ticket loss

Gimme a break  - imho is turning FF off (generally or just for clays & mines) a much bigger exploit and that is allowed for ranked servers!

To put it short: i can understand if some of you detest squad hopping / leader cycling but some like it and we all payed the same amount so we all have the same rights. Instead of making it a server side setting so everyone could play on servers with the setting one likes - so everyone would be happy - the jerks at DICE think they have the right to tell me / you how to play this game while they are unable or unwilling to fix more important REAL bugs that are in the game from day 1 or since 1 of their great patches. Imo they don't have this right because i wouldn't have bought the game if it came out like it is now and, as it is intended for online playing, its pretty useless to me now - so they kind of stole my money!

PS: don't tell me that DICE really wanted to take squad hopping / cycling out from day 1 as disabling 2 buttons when one is dead usually takes a minute when the code it not complete crap.

PPS: Before you start to flame me or repeat the same bullsh*t over and over again please take a big cup of STFU and reconsider it - could it be that i'm right?

i think the game is slower, but not ffrom squad hopping/cycling being adjusted.....but from general performance issues being significantly worse...

i dislike the way they remedied this 'exploit', as i find that when i am dead is the most suitible time to manage any squad functions, because doing it alive leaves you (and ur squad) vulnerable, and usually gets me killed.......what they should have done, is make the squad-leader's lil green spawnpoint red, as though he were dead, if someone tries to click on it for the first time....

its not something thats too hard to adapt to.....i just think if it something that had always been that way, everyone would be playing without any problems...so i play without problems...just getting used to the change

I'll have to disagree with you on this and here's why...

Servers get the option to turn friendly-fire on or off. If you consider having FF off to be an exploit (obviously EA/Dice doesn't), then don't play on that server. I personally don't like getting wailed on by people on top of buildings, so I don't play there. By that server having FF off, it's not hurting you or me in any way. Even though, those people might be getting more points, or kills, or whatever....it doesn't affect me.

I think the same can be said of squad-hopping/cycling. Even though people play on a server with squad-hopping/cycling enabled might see more action, that doesn't really affect people who choose not to play there. I definitely wouldn't put the squad "exploit" in the same category as knife/pistol servers though because those servers makes it artifically easy to get the knife/pistol badges (although those are insanely easy to get now anyway, so I see knife/pistol servers going away) whereas squad-hopping doesn't make it easier to get any kind of badge or ribbon and nobody routinely gets really high scores just from playing on servers with squad-hopping and if they do it probably has very little to do with squad hopping.

Re: BF2 is now a 'slow' game...

The end of squad hopping makes me want to throw my tower out the window. It's so INFURIATING not being able to spawn on my squad leader after I die, or form my own squad - and sometimes it just arbitrarily decides that I can't do anything to do with squads for the remainder of the game. 1.3 is utter crap.

Vehicle drops are a neat little trick, which I actually appreciate. I think the vehicle should of been one of the tiny buggies instead of one of the jeeps with a 360 degree 50. This however doesn't begin to make up for how turgid and crappy the patch has made the game by nerfing the squad system. It was, literally, the coolest thing about the game - and while you could consider it a slight exploit, if I saw someone actually being intelligent enough to check the squad screen every death to see if there are any squad leader field spawns worthy of attention (like spawning as another sniper on top of a crane, or assisting a flag cap, or getting into the copilot's seat), then I was surprised that someone was playing like me.

Of course, my rockets keep ripping holes in time and space and traveling through the target which I just tried to light up. This was a minor problem in 1.2 and is now much more common and severe, much like the red tag bug, which used to only make friends look like enemies, but now makes your enemies have blue tags sometimes, or even places them IN THE WRONG PLACE ON THE SCOREBOARD.

                                Oh, the humanity!
