      • why does it say it costs 20.00USD?

        Comment

        • Its free, but if you want to donate $20 you get forum access to pre-release, beta and alpha test releases which support new games.

example: registered (paying) customers got support for cod4 / crysis / UT3 about 6 weeks before the the official free version came out. Thats not to say he holds back a version trying to make more money, usually a new game will come out and he will add support for it and toss out a test (beta) version that registered users can try.

Saddest day of my battlefield gaming life (

Ok, I can deal with all the decent BF news sites dissapearing. I can deal with the rest stopping reporting 1942 news, leaving me with just a german site that's any use. I can even deal with all the 1942 mod servers becoming almost permanently empty. And BF2 being the world's biggest letdown. And BF2 mod cycles pushing multi-years. I don't even mind that ye olde BF2 comics thread has dissapeared.

But yesterday I noticed the BF world's most tragic of events. The All Seeing Eye game browser has finally been shut down, with it now not being able to search for any new servers at all (as in, properly, truely dead. all scanners MIA as of May 08). So 5 years of ASE use to connect to BF has gone. Oh the happy days I'll miss; the EOD connections, the fiddling to get mods active, the times it told me my ping was 4 digits long (oh how we laughed), the days in uni when it decided not to let me ping owt at all, and all those times it could not connect to a scanner hahaha how it cracked me up. oh what fun we had together my sweet sweet ase sad

And now... I'm resigned to Xfire. Huh. How will you ever compare? Will you comfort me in my days of modneed? I think not. Will I be refreshing 2500 BF2 servers just to find a single new Battleracer one? Unlikely. Still, at least it'll scan for new servers. And scan for BF2 mods. And H&D2 servers. But... what can I say. It's just ugly!

            Goodbye ASE. RIP. Jun 15 2001 - Jul 7 2008.
