You can always get a body shot and take them down with your pistol. That is how I got my basic and veteran pistol. Take an M95, body shot, then pistol, then kill.

L85 has so much deviation. Don't even get me started on it.
        Who plays Euro Force anyways?

I hate the L85...you put your crosshairs directly over someones head ,then shoot 10 shots and non of them register as hits.

I too like the SVD. It is really good for an aggresive sniper who is taking flags! It isn't real accurate for long range, but then you can't see beyond the FOG anyways. The way I see it, SVD has a lot more shots before you have to get more ammo and that means more kills (if they are all headshots)!

              Re: SVD = Amazing

L85 works well for short distance marksmans shots (I've taken out many a gunner capping a flag while using it), and it also makes less noise. But yes, I totally agree that it has way too much deviation for a follow-up shot

The SVD is NOT as accurate as the current M24 or L96, but you have to remember, it is now as accurate as those two BEFORE patch (1.2 was it? or 1.21..? Meaning now we basically have a semi-auto verson of the M24 if you played the game in it's early stages.)

And the SVD's not as accurate because of the obvious reason that it's a Marksman's Rifle not a true sniper (So stop saying "OMG Y use that when other sniper is better!") However, i'm not saying that these rifles are totally useless in extreme range sniping. I've been able to pull off kills with it while the enemy is just a sillhouette on top of a foggy hill (if you didn't catch the hint, don't silhouette yourself)

Also another true fact is if you can get used to your rifle, you can use it in most any situation. I've seen people pull off close range bolt-action kills, and I've done it as well. But it's alll about preferrence!

Different snipers, different tactics. Whether it be assulting, or camping. To each his own.

No, but I have a piece of tape with a small dot I made with a black magic marker. This way I can shoot without zooming with my sniper rifle or Anti-tank rocket (really inaccurate with sniper rifle unzoomed standing btw).

                  Re: SVD = Amazing

Interesting thing I found on the BF2S forums...

If you go prone, then spam crouch+prone in rapid sucession behind a short object that provides cover, you will notice that you will be popping up and seeing an enemy, however, you will not be seen graphically at all by an enemy.

This concept works because your screen moves faster than the animation, and by spamming it, you can see and fire in full view, while your opponent is wondering how you are shooting through a block.

There's a video somewhere that I'll post tomorrow or sometime. Very good for SVD'ing...

If you're that rank, and you haven't even played with an SVD for a few seconds, then there is something wrong with you.

Here's a good thing to know with an SVD, works with all other classes though.

Follow the link, read the description briefly, and watch the streaming video, it's really cool

all you SVD people, make up your minds. is it a Headshot machine or are you firing 4 shots at the body?

if you are going CQC with sniper you already have clays! and nades for short range. you get one 'gimme' kill with your first l96 shot, 2 claymore kills.. at that point I would much rather be hiding. NOT firing a dinky SVD against a PKM just because i have 6 shots in my semi auto left...

Yes, it's inaccurate, but if you miss, you've got another round ready to go, and it comes with plenty of ammo. Only real problem is the low-power scope which makes it difficult to use on longer ranges. Still, I've exterminated whole rooftop camp squads with it, and thinned defenses on Karkand train wreck attacks quite heavily. It's certainly much more ideal for squadding and urban combat.

L96 is my bitch. I can hit guys running nearly as good as I can hit them stationary, even 150m+. Sometimes, on maps like Ghost Town or Kark. @ the water, I'll whip out the L96 just to get my KD Ratio up near the end of a map.

On un-armored at close or close-medium range 1 shot + pistol = pwnt.

You gotta love it when theres no arty, enemies and few teamates around... perfectly quiet and you're just strolling along down a street checking your map to see what flag you're going to make an attempt to cap (if you get around my clays - gotta love those 3 point kills) and suddenly, "Uhhhh - Drop!" your cold corpse hits the ground, and the only thing that you hear is your own death.
