    Re: SVD = Amazing

Nice to know there's another unluck to look forward to.I use the M95 for long range support for my squad.I shoot a tad high at range and find it quite accurate more times than not. Can't wait to get this one for Kark and mix it up some..

      Re: SVD = Amazing

I personally prefer the Type-88 and SVD over all other sniper rifles in the game.

Considering I don't snipe from a prone position often, I need a quick follow up shot if my initial shot doesn't hit them in the noggin'. Which it usually does. Not to mention, I'm able to actually "SUPPORT" a "MOBILE" squad with the SVD/Type-88. THe M24, L96, M95 just don't cut it for me. No sniper rifle kills in one hit anyways, so I might as well stick with the ones that allow me to quickly follow up.

Then again, I don't engage targets beyound 200m or so, so I don't have an issue with accuracy. At 200m the SVD is just as deadly as every other sniper rifle in the game.

...would like a Semi-Auto Unlock Rifle though. It seems odd that EA/Dice gives everyone an "Unlockable" M24, yet won't give us an Unlockable SVD?

This is indeed what i did after reading your post.

You will find, that the SVD is NOT as accurate as the other snipers, the deviation added is twice that of the L96. For short range it is alright, but for me, it doesnt cut it.

If you are behind cover with an SVD, you usually have to either stnad up, or crawl out the side of said cover. In the first case, you will have bugger all accuracy, as the SVD is useless when standing, unless you get lucky. If you try crawling out the side, you will get headshotted beacuse the L96 sniper is standing there waiting.

To me, the advantages is that i can shoot pretty much with 100% accuracy when standing and crouched, while an SVD guy has to be prone or at least crouched (not great) to score a hit at anything but close range. SVD is great for rushing, and some camping, but otherwise i dont like it.

I have fought many a sniper who was toting an SVD. 9 times out of 10, they will try and shoot, miss (beacuse of low accuracy) and then i will headshot them. Also, the very distinctive rattle of the SVD gives it away, and beacuse of the multiple shots, its a piece of cake to find using your hearing.

As for the bolt time, yes, it is a disadvantage, however ofte this time is well spent relocating if you only got a body shot.

          Re: SVD = Amazing

WTF would you want a semi-auto/full-auto sniper rifle for ?...

If you cant kill it with 1-2 shots....then you probably shouldn't be shooting at it at all. and if you get into the situation where you need the semi-auto for close range....then you're not a good sniper.

          IMHO

          EDIT**

The SVD/Type88 is only good for short-term long range supressive fire, in other words make them keep their heads down for a minute or two...thats it.

I can take a target down in 1-2 shots. However, my shots aren't more than a second apart, and I can take down 3 targets before having to reload.

And if you are in a city, I can put myself in a position where I need smei-auto matic is very useful.

Basically, if you never see where a semi-auto sniper rifle is more useful than a bolt action than it is you who is not a very good sniper, not me.

Ì highly doubt a SVD/Type88 can win a Long Range or and Extreme Long Range battle. The record I got in my sig was me vs a Type 88 sniper on Dragon Valley and while he was an excellent shot up to 300 meters (long range in my book) he couldnt compensate for the Deviation beyond that range. He got close but the Zoom and Deviation on the semi's makes it poor beyond 250 meters. The fact he got kills op to 300 meters was because that guy has some awesome talent.

With the SVD/Type88...its either a head shot or 3-4 body shots...there is no 2 shot kills with those.

My stats are available for viewing in my sig...I also have my veterans sniper badge..I would have my expert already but in don't have the required hours yet, as I have not been playing for long.(I get the required kills per round all the time).

                Where are your stats ?

I can hit the body with the first shot and the head with the second.

Sure seems like a two shot kill to me.

                  (edit)
Sorry, I didn't realize that this was an epeen contest.

I have a better K to D with the sniper rifle and only a slightly lower accuracy. . .however, I use a lower accuracy rifle.

Seriously, though, if you are good with the sniper rifle, try it out on the city maps, you will be surprised.

My post was refering to body shots, either 1 head shot or 3-4 body shots

Why not just hit the head with the first shot ?

                      Come now children lets behave

You both might wanna make the distinction in what role you tend to use your respective Rifles.
I usually take the SVD/Type88 when I am in Close Support of a squad or as I like to call it; the Designated Marksman of a squad.
When I am out there by myself I take the M24 or L96A1 and go high in a more Classic Sniper role; the Sniper/Scout as I like to call it.

So maybe you 2 could elaborate what kind of role you play ingame.

While a sniper, I am rarely killed by enemy fire(with the exception of other snipers...my biggest cause of death is the enemy commander wasting an arty strike on me and me alone(i mean there was nothign else around me)

as well as falling to my death jumping from roof to roof ( damn parachute )

SVD will take down any sniepr at medium range.

Just a few minutes ago on a Sharqi server I spotted another sniper, who was using the M95. He shot me while I was going prone, then I got a headshot on him while he was recharging his bolt-action rifle.

Its just amazing because even if you dont get the headhot its like 2-3 body shots (which takes less then a second if you click fast)...but most of the time people go prone to shoot at you so its like...an instant headshot that you get on them.

Well if you miss the headshot, you have to wait to recharge, and when youre at close range vs. an enemy, you die.

The SVD is just as accurate, and if you miss the headshot you dont have to wait to shoot again.

Visibility on Sharqi doesnt go beyond 150 meters so I wouldnt call that medium.
                            < 150 is short , 150 - 250 is medium , 250 - 400 long range , 400+ extreme long range. Well thats how I qualify those distances at least.
Karkand, Sharqi and Masthuur are all Short Range distances in my book when it comes down to sniping due to the fog.

Btw the SVD is just as Accurate as the M95, but not as accurate as the L96A1 or the M24 --> Check Here <--

actually, nothing beats the m24, it is 100% precise, and 1 headshot kill. with those two elements combined, u get arround 40 garentied kills in the tbf2 server( wich some times is full of noobs) every time.

If you miss that shot at close range, then youre dead. And its very annoying when your first shot hits the body, then someone kills them and you get a Kill Damage Assist.
