All of the sniper scopes in BF2 are ridiculously weak. I'd love to see the zoom doubled or tripled across the board and then we'd have some real sniper action. Not being able to accurately make a kill at beyond 300m is absurd.

I was using the M95 (effective range over 1500m) on Dalian, up in the tallest tower, and I could not accurately hit guys at the flag closest to the carrier. The enemies were ridiculously small and the scope not thin enough.

I've spent plenty of time sniping in BF2, but 'sniping' in BF2 is more like close-combat pin-point gunfire. The pellet-rifle like zoom on the snipers forces you to snipe within 100m most of the time, which is a complete joke.

My PB was an Extreme Long Distance kill over 453 meters.

Btw somebody posted a reply in another thread that if you use the M95 you should use the underside of the crosshair as your reference point. So where the two lines intersect and aim with that. Havent tried it myself because I am more into the M24 or L96A1 :)

no, it does not have a crosshair when unscoped.

heh, wouldn't work anyway, it doesn't fire as if it would scoped, get a snipe and go up to a wall, shoot a few shots, goes to left and right.

Actually- I've seen that happen using the MG36, I was standing, unzoomed- and I fired a shot- and it kinda came out of the gun sideways. Strangely enough, I started wondering what the crosshair was for.

Trouble with the Dragunov is that it encourages you to spray bullets around like a nutter...and the crosshair looks like it was crayonned on. You may aswell have a huge red "snipe me!" sign over your head cos its unmistakably a MEC weapon.

It is good for assault sniping and close stand offs. But everyone tends to dive to the ground anyway so you only need one bullet.

I have been saying this forever.

For the city maps, the SVD is far superior to either the m95 and m24.

Even if you are uber l33t with the bolt action sniper rifles, you take out one guy, have to reload and then aim your next shot. By that time I have already taken out two guys and have hit a third. I might not get head shots on every shot, but it is unnecessary because I can land 3 shots in a row no problem.

I really don't understand why people would use anything but the SVD on city maps except for very specific situations.

I swear by the L9...if used correctly the L9 can shine in all ranges.

On city maps like Karkand I put myself right there with the squad at street level, where as my one shot would be enough to kill somone because chances are they have already taken some damage before getting nailed by me.

I hate it. Bullet drop, low accuracy, and a huge amount of recoil means you have to reaim after every shot. defeats the point of semi auto. If it were silenced though, that would be different.

Yes, thats what a sniper scope is for...however a fair draw back would be to add windage and elevation settings to the sniper rifles but also extend the zoom and reach of the weapons, so in other words, if you get nailed from across the map it was b/c the person who pegged you was skilled.

My opinion is that the SVD is "alright", i personally dont use it, its got terrible accuracy.

In certain situations, the SVD is good, espc. when it comes to getting a close headshot (only when prone mind). Long range however, it is horrible, the scope sucks balls, and generally the accuracy is rubbish. It also has nasty recoil, and i find the only reason anyone will kill me with an SVD is:
a) im really low on health.
b) ive been caught in the middle of a field, and i was distracted. The sniper will slowly take my health down, so i cant stop.

Other than that, i just crouch them, and give them a good headshotting with the L96. Ahh, the L96, this weapon is most excellent at getting shots at med/long range. But even at close range id rather have it than the SVD. With it i can do the Sniper/pistol combo shot, altho i usually use the knife anyway.

Having said that, each has its own advantages, its just that i preffer the L96, and i do assault snipe (rush the enemy, not camp), so dont think im sitting on a hill 24/7.

IMO its like an assualt rifle on single shot but with a scope and more powerful.

I dont think the accuracy is bad enough for someone not to use it.

You people that don't like it are stupid.

People that hate the SVD either: never gave it a chance, suck balls at sniping (can't get headshots), or... suck at the game period. lol


The SVD is not the best for getting into long range sniping battles, not because of the accuracy, but the zoom. It doesn't zoom as far as the other snipers. It is JUST as accurate.


For the people saying "I don't have time to shoot 3 shots" or "I don't want the enemy knowing where I am"... well, you can't get headshots, so this sniper isn't for you. The other snipers leave you with 2 bars, so its a really high chance someone will be missing 2 bars, and you will get a 1-shot kill.

This gun is good for close range, medium range, long range, and very long range (but not against other snipers because of the zoom). It will win any sniper battle if you know what you are doing at least somewhat. If the other sniper shoots the same time as you, he has to reload if he misses, and while he is reloading you can either try for a headshot, or shoot the last 2 shots and he's dead.



To all the haters, **** off.. this is the best sniper (or even gun) in the game.
