    SVD = Amazing

    Short range, its amazing.

Long range, its a headshot champion.

I felt like trying a new gun out today on Sharqi, so i picked the SVD.
My first kill with it was extremely close range...I turned a corner and a guy with a G3 pops out and starts shooting, I hit prone, rapidly click my mouse and hes down in a sec, literally. I actually captured flags as a sniper! Took out quite a few people at close range.

Later on, the USMC only had the radio tower left, so I went sniping from the construction site. Amazing. The SVD was popping heads. It missed a few times, but still the best sniper IMO since it works well in close range. Sometimes you dont even gotta zoom in to shoot it. Just circle the person and click rapdily and hes down. I might make a video about it soon

PS: I was playing on the Insomnia server and I just have to say, the amount of cheating on the server is amazing. This one guy was popping heads everywhere with his assault M16. As soon as someone turned a corner, his body would immediately face them and boom, headshot.

I haven't used the SVD at all. Does it have crosshair when not zoomed?

Its only good if you re extremly skilled. I doubt you noticed the extreme drop on the shots since it sounds like you tried sniper for the first time, but i do love hearing the crack of bad snipers as they use that semi-auto to full use. 10 shots, 1 kill. Try using the l96a1. thats an awesome rifle.

ew, I think this is a horrible weapon.
I suppose the semi-auto redeems it a little, but damn.

Its not my first time using the sniper class. Ive had all the unlocks for it.

M95 - When youre like 10 meters away from a target, you put your crosshairs over the person's head, click, and nothing happens besides a loud noise coming out of your gun.

L96A1 - I loved this gun, accurate, and nice crosshairs. But at close range you dont have time to pull off a second shot nor get your pistol out.

I dont notice a huge drop in it. I just put my crosshair about 1 head above there head ( when sniping from the distance from the construction site to the tower - top of it)

Edit: Ill be sure to make a video of me using it within the next week or 2.

PS: My KD ratio with it that round was 14-3, but I joined a little before mid-round.

Can somebody answer my question please, since I don't plan to play just to find out.

no, it does not have a crosshair when unscoped.

I will have to agree with Drunken Pirate, I don't like it as much as the other sniper weapons. Although my sniper time is limited, I guess I really need to spend more time in that ghille suit

                  Re: SVD = Amazing

All of the sniper scopes in BF2 are ridiculously weak. I'd love to see the zoom doubled or tripled across the board and then we'd have some real sniper action. Not being able to accurately make a kill at beyond 300m is absurd.

I was using the M95 (effective range over 1500m) on Dalian, up in the tallest tower, and I could not accurately hit guys at the flag closest to the carrier. The enemies were ridiculously small and the scope not thin enough.

I've spent plenty of time sniping in BF2, but 'sniping' in BF2 is more like close-combat pin-point gunfire. The pellet-rifle like zoom on the snipers forces you to snipe within 100m most of the time, which is a complete joke.

Those who have played Counter-Strike know what autosnipers are like. Would you like to have one in Battlefield 2? It's right there, it is Dragunov.

I picket M95 as my first unlock of my very first account because I wanted
to snipe on other teams also, not only USMC. What a fool I was. I found it somewhat equal to
M24, but i had never seriously given a try for Dragunov. Somehow I managed
to avoid sniper class cause it is somewhat useless in clan matches so why
                      bother practising it?

It happened in last new year. I was a medic in Karkand and I run
out of ammo. I quickly picked up a kit on the ground just to find out it
was a Dragunov. I had no time to seek for anything else so I turned, aimed
for the head of a troop chasing me and bang. Immediately there came two more and I did the same thing. Three headshots in a less than a second actually did impress me deeply.

Later I practised my CQB skills with sniper kit and started using it in
city maps. Soon I was doing probably my highest infantry scores in
Karkand, with Dragunov. I mean +150 in with 32 player and as a part of an
assaulting squad. It's simply the most effective weapon in mid-range
combat. Easy to pick up machinegunners or anything with a single headshot.
Going alone as a sniper is stupid IMO. As a part of a squad it's great. He
picks up targets and stays behind assaulting medics killing all he sees. Never stay in one place alone. Sometimes I'd even like to have Dragunov for assault or medic. In open maps It'd be teh killer.

I wish there would be new semi-auto sniper to unlock, cause I'd really
love that. Now I play sniper only as MEC or China.

For a sniper there's no other shot but a headshot in Battlefield 2. And that is where the second shot matters. I never miss twice.

Btw. IRL Dragunov and M24 for are not competitors. Dragunov has a range of 600-800 meters and it's basicly "long range assault rifle".

It is a good gun. I like to use it a lot in Karkand. I usually lay down claymores down around a perimeter and go prone and snipe people.

The SVD can make or break your game if you are gonna get into CQC on maps like karkand etc. If you are gonna get serious about sniping though you will have to stick to the M95 or L96 as the SVD is worthless from a distance. Sure it's an auto sniper, but you won't get many good opportunities to plug three slugs into someone. The SVDs only other redeeming quality is in sniper duels for obvious reasons.
