        Answer : no. :p

        1 : Mines !!! + more Mines !

You may die once but you've got opportunity for maybe 5 kills or more !
Nice that they stay round while, yes ? Heh.
So many convenient spots away from the expected.

I like to play a bit aggressive with them as well.
Similar to C4 in that run up on parked tank / apc capping a flag + pin them
        in.

Barely played Engineer when kill all your friends but now .... most played
        kit.

2 : Yes ... shotgun limited range [but like DAO] once you get knack for getting in close. Hold off on firing till up close + personal.

3: Repair everything. Say you're whoring up in tank + get pegged by few rounds. No supply crate ? Find nice quiet corner + brand new.
Another kind thing is drive with convoy + help out your chums.
Needless to say - when your side's UAV or arty is down then you can save a supply crate for somewhere else.

        Cheers.

The great part about firefights on foot is that when you are capping a flag as an engy, every fight is always a CQB. And the shotgun rules.

Witness all the flags in Kubra, where there is a house/hut/building involved: you just camp beside the lockers & benches on one knee and empty the barrel at anything that comes through the doors.

The engineer is *the* most versatile class in the game.. hands down. Let me tell you why:

#1. It is AT class. Get used to laying mines in well-hidden places (bushes, around corners), or sneaking up on armor and tossing a mine on it.

#2. Shotgun = great CQ weapon. One shot to head kills all with the basic USMC or China shottie, and the MEC you can tear people up quickly like the DAO.

#3. Pistol = good medium range weapon. If you can use the pistol you can be good at this class, I have this weapon out more often than the shottie because you can actually aim and hit what you are aiming at with it.

            #4. Grenades = squad killers.

            #5. Good armor for CQ.

You can tear up Karkland with this class, without touching armor. I can consistantly stymie all the USMC armor single handed, and give the MEC a clear advantage on the map. Or you can sneak around as the USMC and lay mines all over the rear to torture the MEC. Ask some of the guys on the TBF2 server sometime about KurtisMayfield. :)

              Engies don't get armor.
Just thought I'd point that out.

Besides, they should be wearing tanks anyway.
The Engie's main gun should perty much always be the one mounted on their vehicle.

Re: Is eng. a worthless class

I hate that mines are so in the open, that every enemy can see and avoid them if looking for.
If I hide them, I get lots of TK's, if I put them in the open, I still get lots of TK's (and they all punish, now that FF on servers are back!). Sometimes I end up with negative score just for laying mines.
A mine is supposed to be buried, right?
Only an engy should see it, as he is the only class that can use it. His team would still have warning signs, but enemies would need an engy in their team to spot and disarm mines.
Imagine how more fun it could be should we have 'invisible' mines!
Anyway, I keep laying mines and then wait for 'customers' to pop. :)

Mines are my new best mate.
Mines are to tanks what claymores are to troops. How can you say mines are useless?

Well, I don't know about any 1 else, but I have scored 200+ points IAR w/ over 60 kills, & numerous times kept my tank intact THE ENTIRE ROUND, going sometimes 30-0, or 40-0 w/ my beloved wrench

Many times I have reversed hard to safety bending corners, slid the tank sideways, jumped out on the side away from enemy fire, & repaired

I would say that the wrench is FAR from useless

Yes, eng is good with tank/apc/mobile AA...but apart from that theres no point to it (i.e better kits) as assets can be repaired with supply drops and as I said before, DAO + AT rocket is so much stronger than pump and mines....not to mention you get the body armor too when playing AT.

How can you say mines are useless?
Because, 99.9% of time, only complete noobs die from AT mines....the other .1% of the time is good armor players just not paying attention or an extremely lucky mine.

The problem is lack of camo. They are so easily spotted with that black its not funny. The distinctive shape gives it away so fast. And armor players know to stay away from large bushes because theres likely to be mines there, and as far as high grass goes you can still see them.

Thanks Butcher and all the other engineers. For the rest of you that started this thread and badmouthed the engineer class, did you hear enough facts? Now you can continue to be ignorant noobs, or you can take our posts as advices.

Re: Is eng. a worthless class

Dumb thread. The engineer kit is not useless.

Many a round has been won by the engineers on the team, even under the pressure of a dumbass commander who only applied to get the 2x.

                        Lets see...

-Mobile vehicle repair factory that repairs faster than supply crate, which often leads to tank KDRs of 40-0 and better
-Creates vehicle chokepoints with AT mines on heavy traffic bridges or other bottlenecks
-Placing an AT mine on an enemy tank is equivalent to a detonatorless one-hit-kill C4 charge
-ONLY kit that can disarm mines/claymores
-Is more effective for repairing commander assets because the supply crate will replenish the C4 of the spec-ops who just blew the stuff up
-Shotguns are the best CQB weapon hands down

Even if engy is good only in tank and apc (which I think by now was proven wrong by many engineers that replied) that still doesn't support the claim that engy is useless. Couple of engineers in tanks or apc's can evidently do a lot more, and score alot more than an assault in a tank for instance. Everybody that's smart knows that G3 is better than mp7, but the challenge being engineer is to be good by using any means necessary, or if you prefer, avoiding to expose the weaknesses of the class with emphasizing the strengths at the same time. And as I said earlier, there is nothing better than getting free kills later during the game thanks to your mines. Of course experienced players like yourself and me can notice them, but half of the players at a given time on any server are noobs. Once again scoring by using any means necessary.

I usually play medic but I some times play engineer, but in maps like Wake Island and the only way to get from the Beach to an outpost is by bridge and the bridge has been blown you need and engineer so you can get across. Engineers are just as valuable as medics, and support
