    Re: "scripts"

it's not cheating, get over it. your intelligence, and resourcefulness to get a script is rewarded with points and kills.

then again, the only script i have is to spot an enemy automatically attached to my joystick ( i know where you are airplane :P ).

Generally, its only cheating when someone else gets mad because you just killed them.

You could actually do a lot of that in TO with keybinding in the ini file, moveforward | moveforward. Same with buying armor.

But I totally understand what your saying, especially what your trying to relate it to because I used to play that game **** loads and did a lot of other things for it.

Cheating with macros and binds is very grey area in some cases, but for the most part, like you said, it will only let you do what is in the games stock limitations. It's not like your editing the core files of the game or anything in memory, just streamlining some of the functions. It can get pretty iffy when your doing things that you know are not supposed to be happening, like in DC where if you stood on top of a certain vase in a particular type of a building and crouched up and down really fast, it would get you into the floor, you could macro that, but you know darn well that it is exploiting something that really was not meant to be happening.

btw, did you work on the programming of Nostromo or just assembly? Out of curiosity. Either way, would probably be a pretty neat job process to be involved in.

You could however, as I said, use a macro to help you cheat. For example, in Tac Ops, you were able to swim up waterfalls by pushing your "forward" key very fast. This was a bug in the game. It would be easy with a macro to simulate hitting the forward key very fast (while you really held down one key), allowing you to swim up waterfalls. You were able to do this without the use of a macro, but the macro made it easier.

When designed, the idea of macros was to make very common muti keystroke tasks simple. For example, again, in TacOps, you had to buy armor, weapons, nades, and ammo at the start of each round. With the use of a macro, this was made simple. You were easily able to make a macro that bought a helmet, vest, sold your default pistol, bought a main weapon, switched to that weapon reloaded it (since for some reason it was always unloaded to start), and buy 4 clips for it.

Another example would be buying armor mid round. If you ran back to the base, you could just hit the button you have associated with your "buy armor' macro, and buy armor much quicker.

It is up to the game developers to limit certain aspects of the game so that you can’t use a macro to cheat. For example, if you create a macro that simulates you clicking your fire key every .01 seconds until you stop that macro, you could conceivably have an automatic sniper rifle (or any other weapon). However, if designed correctly, the game should limit the rate of fire for a given weapon. A sniper rifle shouldn’t be able to fire every .01 seconds, even if it is a semi auto sniper rifle (there is no way you could EVER pull a trigger more than once in .01 seconds). The macro would however allow you to fire within .01 seconds of the minimum time it takes for that weapon to be ready for the next shot.

The use of a macro simply allows you to take full advantage of a game. In some cases, you may be able to take advantage of a bug easier with the use of a macro, but that’s up to the user, and just plain cheap.

Bottom line is, macros in themselves are not cheating. They can make cheating easier, but the simple use of a macro is not a cheat. You should have NO worries what so ever about using a macro as designed.
Made the Nostromo..? What part of the development..?

I have loved it ever since I first picked it up due to shoulder problems and am now the 'mister Nostromo' of my clan... :)

But I miss the 'When released, press *** ' ability in the macro software...

Is there a developer forum and could you perhaps PM me with the adress..?
Couse a forum for the device is another thing I miss very much...

            Re: "scripts"

Well I figured out how to do it.

It seems quite nice actually. Didn't try it on the pistol. I'm more interested on the fully automatic weapons in single fire mode and using the dao.

Wasn't able to use the DAO as I''m at work and only have the demo.

But lying prone with the m16 I was able to roll the mouse at a slow speed and it would behave like a fully automatic. If I further slowed the mouse I could get varied speeds of single fire while able to gently keep on target. This could be very nice in medium to long range gunfights.

            Thanks for the inspiration!

              Re: "scripts"

I have a G15 keyboard that has macro buttons. I can set it so that i do 3 bunny hops, 2 dolphin dives, throw 3 grenades, fire my pistol 5 times, fire my rifle 4 times, say to team "hell yeah", reload all weapons and then scratch my butt.

Well maybe not the last one but yeah you get the point. But the thing that most people dont realise is that macros dont really help that much as the game cannot understand anything other than human speed of input. So if i put a macro in that pressed the enter key (say all) then typed the words "I dont teamkill" then pressed the enter key again to say it, battlefield would prolly get about 2 letters and maybe even not press the enter key a second time. The problem is you need to slow it down to human typing speed just so that the game is able to understand it.

So in the end a G15 can only do things that a human can do anyway. It just automates things.

And no i dont run macros as one problem with them, is you cannot have a long macro like what i said before, and still be playing. If you did, it would screw up.

Software for all of the releases. It was a 4 person team on the software, pretty small group. Hardware was a mix of maybe 5 different people. We basically cameup with what we thought would be cool, and had an industrial design team turn that into a piece of hardware, at which point we would make further changes.

Since there is no open API, there is no development form (although i do believe someone reverse engineered it to make a linux version of the software).

I had a ton of fun making the Nostromo controllers. All the people involved in the development were also gamers, so it was easy to say "this is a feature we would love to have".

Plus, in "testing" the hardware/software/firmware/drivers, we basically played games for 4 hours a day over the course of a year or more.

We ran into that when doing the nostromo software. Our solution was to have a "Macros Off" button that turns kills all macros when pressed.

                  Re: "scripts"

A most usefull way, to demonstrate 'macro-power' in BF2, is to be able to bind (for example):
                  Jump/Parashute/Position 2 in vehicles/and F9 (inside view), into 1 key...

But, the same can be done without macro's...
Just edit the controls.con, so those binds are all the same key...

It's called "double binding keys" or in this case quadro binding...

                  Have fun

hmm, guns such as G36E and M16 are designed with 3rd burst so you can't exploit its 900 RPM firerate, but now with macro, you maybe able to and this will unbalance the game.

Tell me about it! I loved it! "Extended Testing". Unfortunatly, after a year or so, some of the testers started to take advantage of it and ruined it for a lot of others.

Thanks man! Like i said, all the people who developed the software were gamers, and we all had a field day with it. The first meetings on the product were basically all of us thinking about what would give us an advantage when playing a game.

That was with the first n40/n45/n50 controllers. Then we basically dropped the n40/45/30 (mouse) and stuck with the n50, making the n52. Which was version 3 of the software.

Its too bad I didnt run into you before, or i would have been able to hook you guys up with a 50% discount! (Still can)

I dont know of many improvements hardware wise that could be made to the speedpad for a new version. More keys and it ends up being a keyboard.

We did however make a keyboard that used a modified version of the nostromo software to reprogram keys, but, honestly, its not that good.

I really do like your idea for the when this button is released do this feature. It might be burried in there somewhere, but im not sure.

Too bad I dont work there anymore, I would have made sure that got into the software! Almost all the original Nostromo developers are gone, with only 1 being left.

The '<insert command here>| OnRelease feature was a totally kick *ss feature built into the keybinding commands in the games ini file for Unreal Engine based games. It made alot of things very simple, like the 'Fire | OnRelease NextWeapon' command was awesome for submachine guns where as soon as you got into a big cqb fire fight and emptied out your clip, you released and it went to your next gun in the priority chain (like your ak or desert eagle). Usually meant having leftmouse for plain fire mode and your rightmouse for that bind, but in TO, you didn't need to switch fire modes much anyways and could just bind it to something else.
