Sorry to poo on your parade, but the black and red ones use different metal compounds. In the thermal tests, the red one did a lot better than the black Nvidia one.

I'll find the proof in a sec.

EDIT: Zalman CNPS9700 NT (Nvidia black one) = 63%

      Zalman CNPS9700 LED (Red One) = 70%

So, what we can sum up, is that they are both, "okay..."

There are programs, usually DOS mode that handle it. It's useful but have a backup card on hand always, preferably PCI or integrated.

imo the 3800's red color is obnoxius, while the 8800GT is sleek and sexy.

What could cause that? The way it renders or the drivers? I dunno.

looking to put either a zalman vf900-cu or a thermalright hr03-gt on mine when it gets here.

dell still tells me my card is "in production". new ship date is jan 7, presumably of 2008.

                          i'd be angry if i didn't get it--well, some day--for $240 with $50 cashback from paypal.

                          oh, and dell still sux.

                              Since when has it not?

(although they did have a 8800GT for $210 a while ago, sold out instantly of course.)

your looking at full load temps of around 50-60 and idle temps in the low 40's or more then if the stock cooler already performs superb.
