Playing at the library might prove impratical, not because the library staff disallows it, but because I can only play once a month if I do so. I do a lot of community service on Saturdays, and I'm still far from the 60 hour limit in order to graduate... And I do plan to do more than 60 hours... Just to make myself not look like a cheapass...

Maybe buying one of those WiFi signal detectors might work... Then I can tap into it and suck up their bandwith lol... But I'm not sure if any wireless LANs are even set up here. But in Boston, there are chock full of wireless LANs here and there, and the city council is planning to set up even more for those who don't have internet access.

you know your laptop cant run BF2 and your desktop will only be able to play at the lowest settings.

I have played it on 28.8Kbps, when i was on my 1GB cable plan. If i went over that limit i would get capped to 28.8Kbps, got pings ranging from 150 to 300. Not very nice, lots and lots of lag, couldnt fly or get into a jeep/tank, but could run and shoot ok.

I got 9.1MB\s cable and when my speed is capped my ping doesn't change. It stays at about 24

Yeah, I'm aware of that.

I'll think about it. I don't really mind playing with just 16 people, perhaps even pushing up to around 20 people.

Patches are not a problem, as long as I just get the incremental patches and download overnight, and also making sure not to download custom maps or mods that could throw my game offtrack.

Your DSL is slow, but mine rocks. $49.95/mo for 6Mbps down and 768Kbps up and 8 static IP's. Its cable that sucks since you have to share bandwidth with all your neighbors so only time you will see peak D/L speed is in the middle of the night and if you have neighbors into P2P forget it. My DSL speed is constant pretty much any time of the day though your results will vary depending on distance and line quality between you and the CO.

I am sorry if I had annoyed you, comrade. But what can I say. I wish to play Battlefield 2. So I might be a little more persistant when it comes to a flat "no" for an answer.

It will work, of course it will, it will just be very very slow, with high pings and laggy.

Legit reasons for broadband:

-Allows multiple computers to access internet at once. If your parents are not computer literate they will not understand this reason.

-Drop an extra phone line, the one you probably have that is dedicated for dial up. If you dont have a dedicated line, broadband frees up your line so that people can call while you are online.

-Increased productivity

-Creative content possiblities, publish a podcast, create websites, publish home videos benefit from broadband

-Then the obvious gaming reasons.

You're best to be honest with them, you want better games, and you put in all this *****ing work for school and community service and you think you deserve a little R&R with a nice reward for some of your free time. Hopefully the idea of rewards and gifts is not a foreign concept to your parents, you work your ass off, they could do something nice for you.

BTW if you want to test the game, try the demo, play on a half full server and see how it plays.

ok well befor i got roadrunner, like 2 or 3 months agao i tryed BF2 with the old agervating dialup. It took me forever to make an acount name and after 30 min. of waiting i said forget it i'm geting roadrunner next week ill just wait. I'm vary happy i did and with an avrage ping of 50 im varry happy. I sujest saveing up for fast internet its not worth the wait with dialup, and internet serching is sooooooooooooooooo mutch better also.
