Has anyone tried to play BF2 on dial up?

I am thinking about buying this game, although hardware-wise, I believe I can run the game on low, I express some serious concern that taking this game online might create sub-par results, as the game uses a lot of bandwith, compared to other shooters like SWAT 4 or UT2004, apparently.

However, I did a little research, and I discovered that if I can connect to a server that is nearby, I might be able to play the game. There are over 2,000 American servers alone. Of course, some of them are bound to be within a 50-300 mile radius within me. I found some servers in New York, upstate New York, Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania via Game Monitor (which is a server tracker for online games.)

I play UT2004, and when I connect to servers that are situated on the East Coast, I get pings of 150-200, sometimes spiking up to the lower-mid 200's, which is very, very playable, but on games like BF2, that might be otherwise... On SWAT 4, even when I join West Coast servers, I get pings of 250 and up, which is still playable. (Although when it spikes to 300 it gets laggy.)

Considering that I don't live on some remote island in the Pacific Ocean, I thinking that I might be able to join local servers and get a ping good enough to allow gameplay. So far, I've seen a good number of BF2 servers situated on the East Coast.

    Thoughts?

I highly doubt you will get any pings below 900 if you could even connect to the server at all.

dont be a buddy f**ker...dont be one of those people with 200 ping and screw the experience for the rest of the people...

I hate when you have 63 people with less then 50ping, and you get the one turd with 200+ ping.

come one, verizon has the 15$ month for DSL...DONT BE CHEAP

Pings are not dependent on any individual games. I still get the same pings no matter what game I'm playing. I play lot of Rainbow Six 3 as well, and I still get the same results on East Coast servers.

I know it's a long shot, but if they support 128 kbp/s connections, they must work on 56 kbp/s connections too!

It is not available in all areas, being a cheapskate has nothing to do with it.

High Pingers do not impact any other gamers. The server sends the same packets to everyone. Ping is when that person cannot send packets as efficiently as others with lower ping. All ping really is, is a measure of time.

YES THEY DO impact the server performance. High Pingers LAgg up everyone else.

Well then, if 200 pings are too high, what is an ideal ping for this game? If and when I purchase this game I'll try to find the lowest pinging servers possible (if possible.)

by the way, hi all :)

Come on. Dial up has to be theorectically possible. The readme for the demo file says that 64kbp/s ISDN is possible if you play with 16 players only.

Dialup..... no, its probably not worth it mate, save your money and get it upgraded or buy some kickass SP game. honestly, if you were to play BF2 with dialup you just wouldnt enjoy it. These days, you would just get frustrated because every time you fired the person would already be into their next dolphin dive, and you'd be aiming behind them.

You don't realize the amount of data that is being recieved by the client, the server handles all alot of the calcuations for game data and sends it back to the client. So basically, alot of lag :P
