Re: Has anyone tried to play BF2 on dial up?
Well, that would have been the best solution. But my parents do not get why DSL is needed and it's "faster" in what sense. I tend to agree with the this view, dial up is fine for me at the moment. The only problem is online gaming... But even then I don't experience too many problems.
Bah, I'll gamble with this title. Even if I can't play on 90 percent of the servers, I can still play single player with bots and there are still some single player mods... Plus, there might be some nearby servers I can be able to play on...
Argh why did EA drop support for 56K for this game? There are still plenty of us 56K users around...
Of course, as I have said, this can be remedied by strictly only playing on servers within a 300 mile radius.
Also, how much information is transfered to the client per second?
Doing a bit of research, I find results from playing on dial up rather mixed. Some Brit in another forum claimed that he was able to play BF2 on dial up by strictly only connecting to UK servers and states that he gets a ping of 100-150. Another person claimed that he was able to play, although the only servers he was able to connect to were the ones in his country. But, he could only play on two servers alone and sometimes they go empty during the daytime.
Also, there have been people who state that dial up is rather poor, claiming that he got 600 ping and waited for an extremely long to time to respawn and he was able to really kill anybody and was soon ousted from the server. There was another person who states that playing on dial up (although playable, he got banned from several servers for too high a ping.)
Rather mixed. It seems that I can't conclude anything until I try it for myself.

You don't realize the amount of data that is being recieved by the client, the server handles all alot of the calcuations for game data and sends it back to the client. So basically, alot of lag :P
