The Twitch layoffs are just a part of the more than 9,000 positions eliminated from Amazon today.

On Monday, Amazon announced plans to cut another 9,000 positions from areas including Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources, advertising, and Twitch. The additional 9,000 layoffs are planned to be completed by the end of April and follow the 18,000 people that have already been laid off from Amazon from December 2022 through January 2023.

Emmett Shear, the founder and CEO of Twitch is stepping down from his position after 16 years with the streaming focused company. He will be replaced by president Dan Clancy effective immediately.

Just yesterday, Twitch scored a few brownie points when they said they were going to ban some gambling on the streaming platform. It wasn't much but at least it was something positive. Today, whatever positivity remained was tossed out the window when Twitch flatly refused to increase streamer revenue share.
