Boycotting DICE because they’re making another game with the BF2 engine right away is silly; if it were another company licensing the BF2 engine tech and making 2142 would it upset you too? Think of all the games that are made with the Unreal engine, would someone boycott those too because there were people hard at work on UT2004 mods? I don’t think so.

People who are into semi-realistic war game experience will stick with BF2, this is just an alternative to Quake Wars/UT2007 (edit and planetside *cough* $14.95 a month).

THANKYOU. I dont love ea but im not going to cry when they "take" my cash because they dont. they put games out and hope people buy them.

I am hoping and praying for option 2! All in all i cant see picking up bf2142 for 50 bucks...just not that big on the future thing.
      Good point!

Let's just stay nice and quiet and watch BF2 become what it should have been!!!!! :)

Imagine FH2 by the time it's nice and quiet, with true enthusiasts!!!!!!

Shame the franchise is being hollywooded, when it could be being refined though.

I'm sick of this **** with them always making a new game when we're in the middle of modding the other game.
        ****ers!
I would be not so worried, Icy-Spicy, I think BF2 will be still the winner horse for mods during a couple years, or at least till a more improved battlefield engine appears, this one seems the same BF2 engine with few more new features.

Personally I think BF2 will have still more players than this one when is released.

          IM WITH YOU ICY SPICY!

I'm sick of EA, they are blood-suckers. First you've got the, what I like to call awake community, these are the people that know whats going on and are sceptical about these sorts of things, then you've got the asleep community, the ones that just go along with everything "Woo hoo cant wait for another game!" and really just don't know what's going on.

Looking over the whole BF2 franchise it seems that EA have either planned this or have been very successfull in pulling it off, they must really HATE mod teams:

          # Releasing BF2 WITHOUT the BF2Editor
          # Finnaly releasing the BF2Editor (Quite late)
          # Releasing expansion packs and booster packs to basically put mod teams out of business
          # Announcing a sequel to the BF series called "BF2142" and hence forth destroying mod teams' motivation, well at least I know I would be distraught if I was working on a big mod, say PoE, EoD or FH2....

This is ridiculous. What could they possibly be thinking?? Sorry EA, not going to buy it. Fix this game to perfection. Lock DICE in a building for six months and come out with a 1G patch that fixes everything. Quit the bullsh*t EA.

Modders-Anything you guys put out will always be 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than any crap EA throws out. Good luck and keep working. I'm really excited about alot of these mods.

                Re: Battlefield 2142 Confirmed

Ill post this right from joystiq's website:

"DICE Sweden holds the reins for this futuristic installment of the Battlefield series, where walking Mechs are described as being "packed to the gills with anti-personnel, anti-tank, and anti-air weaponry." Support-class robots will also serve as spotters and extra firepower for Engineers in the planned 2006 release.

War will take place over who gets the best of what's left after a new ice age. While most of the fighting will take place in northern Africa (as only a quarter of the Earth's surface is still livable under these dire circumstances, mostly centered around the equator), it's certainly possible that Far East countries might join in the fun in future expansions. The two factions involved are "the American-European Alliance, made up of the American continents and most of Europe," and the "Pan Asian Coalition, a combination of Russia, the Middle East, and India."

According to PC Gamer, work began on BF 2142 right after Battlefield 2 was completed roughly two years ago. DICE has already gotten to the pre-alpha stage with 2142 thanks to its reuse of and revisions to the BF 2 game engine. As far as changes to the gameplay are concerned, Star Wars-style lasers are out, but new weapons (including various ballistic firearms), vehicles (like those two-man Mechs and some sort of fighter jets), and maps are definitely in the offing. Infantry get upgrades as well thanks to "new RPG elements in the class system" (to develop the two sub-categories of each of the game's four available classes), some Star Trek-style cloaking for recon units (where you can't attack when under wraps), and the ability of Squad Leaders to place map beacons for team respawns (so they can join in the fight, too).

A buddy list is now part of the main menu interface, which has been rebuilt to aid players in online matchmaking. Also joining this game this century year will be a new game mode, "new Commander features," and "the ability to play co-op with your friends against an AI team." Check out the pages of PC Gamer yourself for further details, or wait till E3 when much more will be revealed."

                And a quick overview:
                -New Gamemode
                -Buddylist now in menu
                -New menus
                -True Co-Op
                -New ranking system
                -New commander features

And these are taken from the PCGamer Article:
-EMP Mines that affect both Mech, Vehicles, and Infantry
                -Physic and Visual Improvements
                -Revamped Explosions
-(its being guessed but) The new game mode could have something to do with air battles

I have to read through the article again and i will post anymore things that I find.

                    Yes, SUPPORT THE MODS!

Just looking at the renders of such quality mods like Forgotten Hope 2, Point of Existence 2 and Eve of Destruction 2 I can say that EA, not even with the very best designers at their disposal, will EVER, EVER be able to create such amazing work.

Why can't EA be more like Valve? They've created a smashing engine, a few games and then sat back while the community harnessed the power of modding and made amazing mods. Just think Counter Strike was a mod and now its a full game, I suppose EA have sort of done that with DC into BF2 but have they really? Who here would say that DC OWNS BF2?

They're going to kill the BF2 community. I sincerely hope they delay the release, make the game much more diverse and complex than it appears to be for release, and then release it in Spring 2007 - a full 2 years after BF2, like it should be.

Right now it just looks like a glorified BF2 mod. Sure they've got stuff mods will never be able to have, but that is to be expected. What's not is such an early release, a rushed game, and weak content. I really hope EA doesn't shove this one out the door to capitalize on the popularity of BF2. Gah.

                            Quoted for TRUTH! Well Said!
Although I like the idea of going into the future just not so damn soon.

Well that explains why they are so bloody slow with patching the game! I actually like the whole futuristic thing, but BF2 needs more work dammit!
