    Please no more bitching.

David2999, step back, read PBAsydney's posts, and calm down. You are not achieving anything. (apart from helping to make USI appear to be unprofessional)

Im a USI tester too, and i think the Dcon stuff coming on well, Longbow and small arms in particular.

This is a thread in a board dedicated to bigging up all the mods, id rather hear positive comments or constructive critisism than constant baiting and accusations.

    No more bitching please.

You should never judge a mod by one persons attitude Whoopee. USI has a great team and a great mod. So please reconsider. All the mods are great and the teams hardworking.

What i dont understand is why the model had to be spot on to the original, yet the other models arent spot on to the dice ones, seems like you wanted to annoy people and create a massive discussion.

Not trying to be bitch here, just want an explaination.

          Re: Desert Conflict Mod Update

Not that we owe you an explanation but It was created that way because in our forums our fans wanted things to be as close as we could to the original. I dont know about the rest of you but we have listened to our community following. Its what has made it over 1500 people currently and growing. Its for our fans that we do what we do. No other reason. They asked and we produced. It really is that simple. We're not out to create drama. We'll leave that to others.

Edit: Our maps that are currently remakes will also feature remakes of the same statics. Our other maps that are newer creations and brand new will feature our newer statics. It just how the community wanted it. Theres alot behind the scenes going on in regards to mapping and modeling and also where DCON is going after the first release thats not made public. No this.. We're blazing a new trail with an old idea and making it everything it should have been and more.

            Re: Desert Conflict Mod Update

explaination has been given all over this thread.
            Summary:
Goal: recreate some bf42 and DC maps
Requirements: Statics that give the map the same playabilty and feel (not the same look, pointing at the skins, since bf42 skins are African, and ours will be of course like they are in Iraq)

You borrow his paper plane, and unfold it.
Now, you grab a new piece of paper, and fold it just like the other paper plane.
Of course, it won't be exactly the same, but you decide to give it a shot.

You fold and you fold, until you made a paper plane that looks just like the other one. Though you folded the wings 1 inch too far.
Munchies won't bother, he got his paper plane anyway.

You try to throw the paper plane, and it flies exactly at the other paper plane.

                    That's not stealing is it?
Repeating a wireframe isent exactly "folding a paper plane" is it?

                        Re: Desert Conflict Mod Update

Wow, how many of the people here are actually modelers? Nothing worse than a bunch of over inflated Beta Testers comming off as experts....

Make a box, boolean in some windows. Add steps and a few doors, as well as a skin..... Geez it is not rocket science.

Anyone who knows Hoofer, knows that he must have a very high IQ. He can do what most people take weeks on in days. He is not a talentless hack who simply ports other peoples work. And if you look through our renders you will see how involved he is in the DCon mod.

I imagine we will get a lot more reactions to our mod that are similar to this thread. We have some very talented people on board, and making static objects is not that hard...... especially when they are just simple boxes........

This thread is just silly as hell..... But thank you to the guys who posted constructive criticism. And also a big thank you to the USI members who have been reasonable in their postings.

I personally invite anyone who challenges our ability to make reproductions of the BF42 items, to upon DCons first release, take all of our meshes into 3DSMAX and make your best case, cause we do not have anything to hide.

                          Re: Desert Conflict Mod Update

                          Greetings everyone :-)

I'm a DCON Developer and I work with sound for the Desert Conflict mod. I came across this thread and I'd like to offer my perspective.

There seems to be two specific issues that needs to be adressed:

                          The Legalities of Copyright.

It not legal to re-use any copyrighted digital content without permission, regardless of purpose. It is legal to recreate anything and everything as long as you do it from scratch. This is pretty much universal, regardless of country, except certain parts of Asia where copyright and intellectual property is not recognized by the law. This is why you can buy replica Rolex wristwatches on the street in that area. If the DCON mod team wanted to host their content from there, there would be no legal avenues for EA to pursue. Copies of their games are sold on the street all over Asia anyway.

However, this not really the case here and the DCON team has no desire to violate any copyright or abuse any intellectual properties.

Let's look at a real-world analogy that everyone should be able to understand.
You can make a painting of the Mona Lisa painting if you like, as long as you don't claim that it is the original painting.

When it comes to maps, you're free to recreate as best you can, any earlier map. However, it will never be exactly identical, since there are some differences in the engines where proportions, tectures etc. aren't identical either. When it comes the models or any kind, the same goes.

So the question that is being so passionately promoted by some here is: is DCON violating any copyright laws?

No, but how do you go about to prove that? Some self-proclaimed experts say they can look at the models and "see" that models have been ported and then tweaked. You be the judge, if it really matters to you. The DCON team are ready to prove the originality of the content if EA would like to challenge it. We have a very specific design process that allows us to make some very similar models, but at the same time prove that they are created from scratch. But going through the process of proving this because an individual or two says they can "see" our models are violating copyrights, would make us victims of a filibuster and we don't have time for that.

If you're the suspicious type, you could wonder about ANY and ALL models out there. I'm no 3D artist, but I suspect it would be easier to take any tank or jet model for example, and tweak it to fit your purpose instead of starting from scratch.

If you know anything about legal matters, you'll know that the burden of proof is on the accuser - everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I think you 'd agree that this is fortunate for society as a whole. If someone wants to establish a case to prove this so-called rip-off, they are free to try and do so. Anything less than that is technically slander and libel.

The "Morality" of recreating Desert Combat content.

Opinions here have been stated that it is "unoriginal" to recreate Desert Combat for the BF2 engine. Hey, that's fair enough. If you wouldn't want to play Desert Combat in the BF2 engine, it is a matter of your personal preferences. Desert Conflist is a mod that will be made available to you for free and for the single purpose of entertaining you. I never played the "Pirates" mod for BF:1942 because I'm not much of a swashbuckler myself, but I did (and do ) play Desert Combat a great deal.

But, please consider this: the DCON team is openly and clearly stating that recreating the "Desert Combat Experience" is our purpose. We're not hiding that fact and we've gone to some length to ensure that former Desert Combat developers doesn't have an issue with this, regardless of the fact that there are no legal ways to prevent us from doing so. It is completely open and aboveboard and it would be pretty naive to suggest that we could hide that even if we wanted to.

How does this affect you as a player? Well, given a fixed amount of people and a given amount of time, we are free to develop more stuff because we don't have to reinvent the wheel. We already have a design-concept to follow. A proven concept at that.

I'm sure there are "purists" who feel that it is "cheap" and "unoriginal" to have remade Counter Strike for the new Source engine. They are probably not playing CS:S if they are ruled by such a perspective. However, a lot of players have embraced CS:S and having a great time!

Respectively though, I personally don't feel that making a T90 instead of a T72 (for example) is evidence of deeply inspired originality either - but it is all a matter of perspective and tastes.

We don't want to force Desert Conflict on anyone - nor could we if we tried to. It's entirely up to you - but if you choose to play Desert Conflict, please know that we are very happy that you do and that you are welcome! If you don't, Godspeed and God Bless to you :-)

                          The "Mod-scape" for BF2

While I am a member of the DCON developement team, I am a player before all else. I think that goes for most of the team as well.

So many mods are started and never finished. Of those that are finished, a lot are somewhat mediocre in terms of entertainment value. But every now and then there is a really good one that will elevate the gaming experience. Sometimes there are several good ones to choose from.

The entertainment value of the Desert Conflict mod will not increase by us putting down other mods. Every mod will be judged by the gaming community on it's own merits.

I sincerely hope as a player, that many really good mods will be released and I wish for every mod that they will be successful - i.e. offer a gaming experience that everyone likes and enjoys.

Desert Conflict hopes to become one of them. We believe that there will be many gamers who would like to play an upgraded version of Desert Combat. We know that we would like to ourselves.

Regardless of who you are and what you feel about our openly stated methods and digital art etc. - if you want to come play DCON with us, you are most welcome. If you feel strongly about the content, we'd like to hear your opinion and we have a website set up for just that. If you have something constructive to add - ideas, suggestions and opinions, we'd love to hear them.

Swing by: www.desert-conflict.org and make up your own mind. We'd love to see you there!

                          Cheers :-)
