VAC Coming to Source Shortly

I'm sure you'll all be glad to hear that in a message distributed to the dedicated server mailing list, Valve's Alfred Reynolds said that we'll soon be seeing VAC in Source games - like CS: Source.

VAC is coming to Source, and it will be an updated VAC with additional anti-cheat functionality. We're working on this now. -Alfred

BTW, FWIW, I'd MUCH rather see VAC / Anti-cheat for Source than more models. From a server admin standpoint, it's getting quite old to watch a full server empty out when some dumb-ass comes in with a speed hack or something similar.



I'd love to see the new models, too, but first I think we need to clean house and get VAC out there, and get some more user-friendly admin tools out there. Using RCON is fine, but you don't want to give RCON password out to all of your admins. From a security standpoint, that's just not smart.

I love Source but virtually everytime I go into a server a speed hacker shows up or a wallhacker. And no, it's not some leet player I THINK is a hacker. After 5 years and knowing some truly great players and a while back playing on 3D's server and other stuff, I know the difference between the two when I watch in Spec mode. Source is ate up right now with hackers. Reminds me very much of the period just before Valve implemented VAC in 1.6. When I was a Admin then I spent more time having to watch assholes then I was with having a good time with the players. I even know some folks that got so fed up with it, they abandoned CS.

I absolutely applaud Valve for finally seeing this as a problem again and announcing this.

CS 1.6 wont be "trashed" for awhile because too many people still play it



CSZ they need to update it for a bit to make them look like they care about there customers that bought it.



Also the bitching will never stop, because most 12 years olds (majority of cs) don't realize that a game cannot be perfect, and will take time to update.



But good news on the vac update for source.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that there are almost 5x the amount of players playing CS 1.6 than CS:S?
