You're right, and I'm wrong. VAC is completely useless, and does nothing to combat cheats. It completely lacks any functionality that allows it to be updated to detect so-called VAC-proof cheats, and does not ban user accounts which are caught using detected cheats. Furthermore, I submit that you are a god amongst men, and I submit to your divine authority.
When a cheat is VAC proof, it disables itself before VAC can detect it if VAC is able to.

Thanks for admitting that you're wrong, but I already knew that.

You seem to be under the impression that Valve is somehow incapable of downloading these cheats themselves, and developing new ways to combat them.

I'm sure they can, but VAC proof cheats have been around for a long while. Why hasn't Valve done anything about the VAC proof cheats if they are perfectly capable of it? Valve would have to re-think the way VAC detects cheats.

When I say "VAC proof", I dont just mean cheats that havn't been detected by VAC yet. I'm talking about cheats that cannot be detected by VAC in its current state. I've used a few VAC proof cheats with friends (they knew I was cheating) in private servers. You load the cheat, and it does something to monitor VAC's activity. I'm assuming that if the cheat finds that VAC is able to detect it, the cheat disables itself.

This can be observed by trying to use an older VAC proof cheat. You can load it up, start CS, and go into a server even though VAC would be capable of detecting the cheat if it were not VAC proof. The cheat will just shut itself down so the user is not banned. Then, you can just go find a new cheat. They come out almost weekly.

I'm not saying Valve is uncapable of banning cheaters, but the cheaters just have it so damn easy, and I don't see VAC in CS:S catching very many people. VAC2 will have to function completely different, or VAC proof cheats will be just as easy to play with as they are today.

          *shrug*

I guess I just don't feel comfortable making statements about what Valve has or hasn't done based on final products. My belief is that just because they haven't released a solution doesn't mean that there isn't one on the way or in the works. I'm just as disappointed as you are that there hasn't been a VAC update in ages, but it's understandable considering how busy they were with HL2. As I said earlier, I'm hoping this "additional functionality" will allow them to catch these cheats.
