Yes. I've been playing for a long time, and since I started playing Source I don't believe I've seen anyone hacking. What I have seen is a great many players who are over-eager with their accusations.
I've seen maybe 2 cheaters the whole time I've been playing souce, since the very first day of the beta. 99 percent of the time its just newbies calling better skilled players, hackers. Hopefully, they'll include a setting that will disallow the word hacker to be typed.Comment

There will still be cheaters, probably the same amount.
Oh thank god...once it's up and running I'll start playing online again.SmokingPlunger wrote..
VAC proof cheats are rampant for 1.6 and CZ, why do you think hackers wont figure out how to bypass VAC this time?
pesonally, i cant wait for VAC to be up and running. Nothing worse than being beaten by some lamer who isn't good enough to play without cheating. Spoils the games for honest people. I'd rather be bad at a game than being a good cheat.Para wrote..
No it's not.
The end is nigh! Yay!defuser wrote..
Truth.
we can rejoice for awhile, but soon ppl will make hacks that is vac2-proof and valve will again give it upComment

entRo, I don't think people are as willing to risk losing their $50+ CS:S account being banned from secure servers then they are to lose their CS 1.6 account, which can be replaced by a elcheapo new retail copy.. That is only one reason why I think there won't be near as much cheaters in CS:S when VAC is active then in CS 1.6 which will never be updated again and is a much more hack-friendly engine.. When HL2 gets cheaper aswell in retail, we might see more people willing to take the risk, but not in the near future..
Which brings me to CS 1.6 never being updated again.. That most people still play it doesn't mean anything.. Valve is most likely not gonna spend much more time and money on an old game when they have a newer version out.. I think most CS 1.6 (and CS:CZ) players should be happy about this, because all most of them can do is b*tch everytime Valve updates their game.. Now they can keep playing the same old game forever without ever being "bothered" again with updates.. Valve, and the rest of the CS community will move on in CS:S and whatever comes next..Comment

entRo, I don't know why you think I said that VAC is 100% foolproof. Cheats get banned, new cheats get created, and the cycle begins anew. This is not news. I find the mass-banning methods of VAC to be very satisfying, and look forward to finding out what the "additional functionality" Alfred mentioned includes.Comment

What you're all seeming to forget is that the way VAC works is by taking data from the hacker's machine when the hack is working. And when they've found a reliable way of detecting the cheat all the accounts that were using it get banned. It's not about detecting new cheats off the cuff, its about finding a reliable method and then taking action.Comment

j00ni3, it's been clear for over a year now that VAC will be ported in some point to Source, this is just a first confirmation of it. I'm sure some hacks already try to do some pre-emptive stuff to make sure those won't be seen, but we don't know when VAC will be activated until the first bans occur.Comment

i'm not talking about the fact that VAC is coming sooner or later. I'm talking about how Valve should implement this anti-cheat tool without anyone knowing. for example... don't announce to the public the fact that on such a such a date, VAC tool has been implemented onto all Source online games.. blah blah blah.. that way.. peopel who are dumb enough to hack, not knowing that the VAC tool has just been incorporated onto the servers, would get banned.
i don't see how you would misunderstand this.Comment

It's not 100% foolproof, but it's not even close to effective. VAC proof cheats stop working, they aren't banned. You can still boot them up and go into a server with them and you wont be caught. The cheats just wont work. VAC proof cheats cannot be caught by VAC, being why they are called "VAC proof". VAC was only mass-banning in its earliest stages. Now, cheaters have wisened up and aren't so stupid to use cheats that arent VAC proof.

So, if you're thinking that VAC support for CS:S will even cause a dent in the hacker population, and you can have fun online again, you're pretty wrong.Comment

You're right, and I'm wrong. VAC is completely useless, and does nothing to combat cheats. It completely lacks any functionality that allows it to be updated to detect so-called VAC-proof cheats, and does not ban user accounts which are caught using detected cheats. Furthermore, I submit that you are a god amongst men, and I submit to your divine authority.
