Half-Life source is pretty cool, but as others have said, buggy and not very exciting.

They didn't update the models, let alone player models. Whatever happened to using the models from Blue Shift?

A shot of your MP5, and a bug. Some shadows go right through solid objects.

The water looks great though. I'm playing in DX8.1 mode, (curse my GeforceFX!) so it'll look even better for those of you with ATi cards or high end video cards. Sometimes the DX8 water looks a little too deep, not transparent enough, and dark.

Same old crowbar, new dent decals.

A shot of the new grenade explosion.

And finally, your HEV suit, still as blurry as ever.

Overall, other than some new water and physics, it isn't much different than regular old HL. Also, I think the HL engine chrome effects are having some problems in Source, because when I see an object that is supposed to use the Chrome effect, it looks way to shiny like its only displaying the texture and not adding the effect.

        Wanna know the irony??

While all of us are trying to log into steam and waiting for the files to be unlocked, there are cracks and pirated versions already out.

I have already purchased it and i'm waiting to log in, lol and i just realized that the cracked version was out hours after the release :O

So it shows that all this trouble with activiation and shit is like windows XP. People who buy it just be really pissed because they have to jump thru hoops to get it running, whereas cracks/hackers just lean back in their chair and laugh.

Steam (at its current state) and activation is a joke..

Unfortionatly, if this anti-piracy conquest continues, its gonna be easier to download the freaking game then go thru all this bs.

PS. If steam would work like they say it can, it would be awesome, except nothing goes as plans (especially with computers), so valve should have anticipated everyone trying to log in at once when they released the game at the same time world-wide. I'm definatly disapointed with steam and valve

But if HL2 is as good as everyone says it is, i might find it in my heart to forgive them

I think what he's getting at is, with a pirated version of WinXP Pro, you don't have to go through the product activation, where as with the typical (affordable) legal XP Home installation, you have to jump through hoops to get it working, and if you change much about your computer, it wants you to do the online activation AGAIN.

So the point wasn't that HL2 or WinXP don't run well, it's that it can be more of a hassle (for some) to get them running than illegal alternatives. Whether I agree with his point or not, just clarifying what he's saying.

Well thankfully I got to play a couple of hours this morning and this afternoon before the Steam servers won't let me log in.

I can just gaze at my screenshots.

Actually, to be honest, finding, downloading, and installing pirated software (while remaining ad- and virius-free) is just about as hoop-filled as the legal way.

Plus, the legal way, I usually have tech support I can call up, and someone to blame things on when things fail.

The only time I'd pirate any software would be when it was something I would own legally if I could.

Like Windows XP. If I ever get my laptop fixed (the computer I'm on now can't run it), I'll pirate Windows XP (if I can) up until I have the money to buy it at which point I'll probably format my laptop and install the 'real' Windows XP.

I also own bootleg movies until a DVD counterpart is available in stores, as my personal rebellion against the insane amount of time for DVD counterparts to BE available in stores. The same for temporary downloads of some movies...since I can't 'rent' them for home viewing.

Anyway, as far as Half-Life 2 goes, chances are by the time I have a computer to run it, I'll be able to afford it. I'll play through it once, probably cheating to do so (so I can see the storyline) and then I'll go back to CS:S.

Thanks for the screenshots Urban Terror. I was considerably under-impressed. -.-

Between the release of Halo 2 and the release of HL2, many kids will be skipping school if they haven't already started.

Of course, they'd have to be able to log in on Steam first.. which doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

dammit I can't even log into any of my steam accounts. This is so ridiculous. I have no faith in valve, but I still have faith in HL2. It is such a great game, I got to play 5 minutes this morning and it's just amazing. STUPID VALVE!
