ioCS,undertaker said...It's so obvious that those models do not exist just because CSS is not ready yet. I guess it's urgently released just to make ppl buy HL2 over steam and force Vivendi to release HL2 asap.
Our survey says.............. DING DING! VU have the new Leisure Suit Larry though, so they probably won't care.Comment

god, valve sure works slowly on projects.
maybe they should demote gaben and promote someone who can motivate the valve team. right now they take too long for any significant progress.
does valve even have separate CS, CZ, Source teams? because there hasnt been a CZ update in a long time...Comment

This very much confirms the idea of content being released only after HL2 gets released.. Until then we'll just see bugfixes etc.. I hope this will ease the minds of those people whining with every update that it doesn't have new content..
Most of this is scheduled to be released in the December timeframe.
Btw, thxs for the info Erik..Comment

no, valve is just slow. the HL2 engine is totally outclassed in speed and effects by the Doom3 engine. HL2's graphics are only better because the valve art team used higher res textures and higher poly models. HL2 does NOT have as good physics (i don't care what you say, D3 is just more realistic), does NOT have anywhere as good lighting, and when it comes to DX9 effects, the only thing I can see is water. which FarCry did without DX9 and massive frame lag. HL2's graphics aren't characteristic of the engine, they're characteristic of Valve's art department. HL2 would have been much suited to a release last year, before D3's omgawesome lighting and effects blew the Source engine out of the water.
AAAAND don't you even think about saying doom3 lags online. doom3 lags and has a 4 player cap because the multiplayer characters are very highpoly, and D3 DM uses 100% polygon based hit detection. no hitboxes, just polygons. i'm sure you can imagine the massive amount of server computation and therefore resulting lag. D3 is just better, period. I own d3 and run it at high-quality with an enhanced lighting patch with avg 60 fps on a GeForce 5700 Ultra (OC). Try doing that in CS:S. I get like 40 avg on source and 20 avg in water, with horrible input lag when it drops that low. what happened to the "extremely fast, totally scalable" engine valve touted?Comment

Do some research before posting. Doom 3 is OpenGL, which Geforce is strong at. HL2 is Direct3D, where ATI shines and Geforce FX series just plain suck. Wonder why Valve had to scale the graphics to DX8 for Geforce FX series? Cause their performance in DX9 suck. Worse, I haven't seen good performance from FX cards on source even on DX8. It's not Valve's fault. It's the FX's problem.

While I agree there are some hitbox issues, I don't see the difference with Doom 3's lag. Doom 3 had to reduce max players to 4 just to compensate for lag. CS:S can go up to 32 players and it can still manage quite well on a good server. Guess what I'll pick.
And don't even start on physics. HL2 totally outclasses Doom 3, contrary to what you said. Don't judge the HL2 physics after shooting a couple of barrels and objects on CS:S.Comment

Dude, when HL1 came out, ITS multiplayer had more than 2 models. I thought 50 bucks bought more than a halfassed RC and an unreleased game. As for us being grateful to Valve, that's just dumb. You think they did us a favor??? I can't remember the last time I paid $50 for someone to do me a favor (I know that kinda sets itself up for a sketchy comment).
Does anyone else find it funny that in the very next line he says..
You paid for a HL2 preorder, the CS:S was extra. Be thankful they gave it to you at all and didn't leave you with de_dust for two more months.
You said something stupid, and now I'm irritated. I want my comfort back, you jerk.Comment
