    I don't know why there's such a big commotion over simply $5. Normally, you wouldn't have paid for over 3 years for Counter-strike. Hell, if you got half-life, it'd be free. So techincally, you wouldn't have paid a cent for CS. Now they want $5 for 3 months. Trying to boycot CAL would be like saying "Hey, I bought the car, so why should I have to pay for gas?" It's just wide and around done. Also, CAL isn't free to uphold. Everything costs money. CAL just wants some of that money re-imbursed. There has been no word on the prizes, or anything else, but you can be sure those will be good.

        Weak. It's not a lot of money at all, but it's still stupid.
        Stupid? What to ask the smallest of amounts which coming from so many people will make such a big difference to the league and benefit everyone? Whats stupid about that???

        And why would it put young players off from cal? People can afford an entire pc system but not $5 per season to take part in one of the biggest cs leages worldwide?

        Im still wondering why this seems stupid to you...

          I wouldn't pay nothing for CAL. I am not going to pay to play a game in a league.

            Good call CAL, this was suggested by a fellow from Echo 7 months ago, was it not? I think so, this should make for better seasons.

              Great decision! I mean come on, who can't shell out $5 for a whole season?!? People pay that much for a combo meal at a fast food resturant!

              I hope it's per player...

                People pay 12+ dollars a MONTH to play MMORPGs. Which for the most part is just grinding through lvls over and over and over. I've played tons of MMORPGs since I've started playing CS in beta 5.2 and I've always came back to CS.

                Frankly I'll have no problem skipping out on a month of whatever MMORPG I'm playing to play 2 seasons of cal. (more like 3)

                So buck up kids, save that 5 dollars you were planning on using to buy fizzy-pops and get serious.

                  i agree with what GoldDragon says, my team and i are all teens, and none of us have a creditcard/paypal so unless they will accept mail orders, my team can just forget about entering CAL (it would be our first time too, we never really got serious with CS, just messing around in pubs) $5 is pratically nothing (especially if its per team) its just its hard if there are limited payment options

                    Score 1 for UGS. First of all, some of the admins barely care about anything. Why would I start PAYING for that kind of crappy service. Ridiculous. I'm sorry, but I'm not paying. CAL has been around for years, why do they need our money now? $5 per CAL Account could be reasonable, but not ever season.

                      I dont see any down-side to this. $5 is NOTHING. Just, dont buy that Subway (*cough* quiznos > subway) lunch one day, or steal from some old lady.

                      5 dollars, from every person, would reap an enormous difference (hopefully) in performance. Admins would be more enthusiastic about persuing thier objectives - and things would hopefully speed up. Also, putting this money towards prizes - the competition will deffinatly heat up....can anyone imagine cash prizes for cal-o?

                      In conclusion, stop whining, 5 bucks is nothing, and the effects will in theory be worth it.

                        I just don't understand what CAL wants that we didn't have before, or had poorly before. Suppose 2,000 people are in CAL now, and that CAL chooses $5. That's $10,000 EVERY SEASON. And what reason is that for?

                        I feel exploited.

                            Yes well I wasn't sure. I think i'd rather not pay and get no prizes, than pay and get prizes. I like CS when it's not about the money or the prizes, but the prestige and entertainment.

                                I saw this on the CAL forums.
                                As of July 8th:

                                CAL Statistics:

                                Players: 35,212 (31,104 in CS)

                                Teams: 5,565 ( 5,008 in CS)

                                Doing the math.

                                (Only CS gamers assuming everyone now pays.):

                                $05 x (# of CS players) = $176,060 per season.

                                Four seasons per year.

                                $704,240

                                Imagine if this money (taking away around $200k of it for sallaries of staff) went back into the league. You would have around $125,000 per season divided up by five divisions (I'm sure it wouldn't be equal due to the heirarchy system).

                                ------------ With $05 ------------

                                $62,500 :: Invite (50%)

                                $31,250 :: Premier (25%)

                                $15,000 :: Main (12%)

                                $10,000 :: Intermediate (8%)

                                $ 6,250 :: Open (5%)

                                ------------------------------------
