As long as every division has money prizes for the winners and not just CAL-I, I could care less. But UGS is probably thanking CAL so much for this, UGS clan-lists are probably gonna double now.

it may have its benefits, but didn't munoz always claim that his goal was to expand esports, to have them accepted and respected in the sports community? how will this help expand? it's a whole direction AWAY from sports. athletes don't pay to play sports. they'll lose people and attention this way. very very bad idea.
For amateur sports you always have to pay. Only the pros, and semi-pros, get paid to play.

I think it's a good idea. It will surely make it a more serious league for those of us who like that type of play.

If CAL does do this, I think that the # of people playing in CAL will decrease dramatically... but thats just my opinion. :\

hmmm just diddling around w/numbers... assuming they:
» charge per player not per team

» that each team only has the minimum roster

» that you have to pay for each division you play in

» & not including any OPEN division of COD, CS, DOD, SOF2, or either of the RTCW:ET divisions
CAL wouldve raked in about $54,200.00 this last season... $9340 if they charged by team.

I support the change, 5 dollars is freaking nothing, but with thousands of participants, it can really improve CAL for the better. The only drawback is the immature people that find this so insane, as it will only improve the league. If you read your pro-gamer articles, look for cal-m scrims when your cal-o, and dream about going to CPL and meeting SK, then step up to the plate people. Currently CAL can't keep track of you for crap, so the same players rotate through CAL-i teams. CAL-m players sit through cal-o seasons raping newbs until their teams disband.

If it weren't for the prestige, everyone would realize CAL is not so great. With a little funding, and proper management, they would be able to accomplish a lot more. What does 5 dollars mean to you?

i personally think it's a great idea, for quite a few reasons.

                      1) cal can get some respectable admins that really try to help people (the majority have done a great job, but some of the admins truly don't deserve to be there).

                      2) cal can pay for good servers.

                      3) gets rid of hackers (cal will probably get a much better team of anti-hackers because they can pay for them, therefore cheaters will go to other leagues where they wont lose money for getting banned and/or have better chance of not getting caught.

                      4) gets rid of immature kids with cal-o clans that don't go anywhere, and give everyone forfeit wins.

Here's something for some of you to think about. More than half of the CS community are younger than 18. Most of us can't get credit cards, or paypal for that reason. Just because we have $5 doesn't mean we have the ability to spend it most of the time.

I wish every serious league was pay 2 play tbh.

The only downside to this is if there is a lucrative enough prize money for every game division, hacking would increase not decrease. What's $5 if you can hack and possibly win the xxx amount of cash at the end.

I think its great that they are moving to pay to play. Maybe it will get rid of all the asshat teams that try to screw people out of matches, or the hackers that play cs to feel better about themselves. I will gladly spend 5 bucks to play a season, per person or per team. It wont hurt my team one bit.
