There's no way you can compare the two.

DooM 3 is a horror-action flick based in a Mars research facility.

Half-Life 2 is a sci-fi story-driven shooter based in a fictional City bearing strong resemblances to real-world locales.



There's also a huge difference between the two's technologies. Sure, they both support bump(/normal)-mapping, but Half-Life 2 uses fake radiosity lighting which does not allow for extensive use of dynamic stencil shadows, whereas DooM 3 has shadowing out the wazoo.



For that matter, most people haven't even seen the FINAL versions of either game yet, and you can't judge the texturework based on a PRE-ALPHA. (Please. That's just wrong.)

I'll wait patiently like all the other true CS fans for CS:S. Its the pricks that buy CZ after Valve announces CS:S beta will be pre-loaded on CZ that piss me off.

And to all you people that say that free ride is over shit, f*ck off!! CS was a free mod for HL1 and that's where its roots run deep. If Valve had never bought CS, CS would go on the source engine anyway... and it would be free... and so would the beta (the beta is free but you have to pay for CZ to get it so I guess its not :)). (I know I'm speculating a lot but this is my opinion)

Unfortunately Doom 3 is a load of manic crap - shooting unrealistic guns at unrealistic monster in an ugly metal panel environment. HL2 is a highly atmospheric more believable story with beautiful landscapes such as the docks and cities.



I think I will prefer Doom 2 to Doom 3 because it had an amusement factor watching how retarded the AI was.

Erm, when was DOOM/Quake meant to be realistic/believable? Come to think of it, neither is HL and HL2. If U think about both plots are VERY similar (void created allowing trans-dimensional beings into our reality). Ergo if UR saying DOOMIII is unrealistic then U say the same with HL and HL2!!

BS. It started free.....but the people who started it never intended to update forever for free. They were damn happy Valve appreciated their efforts and bought it AND HIRED THEM!!! They have families to feed and lives....unlike perhaps you and some others who will never move out of their mamas basement.
