... Another thought.
Ever fired a handgun from one hand? Anything beyond .45 is testing a second shot... .357 Sig (p228 for you non-firearm enthusiast people) is snappy as hell. Lots of muzzle flip, whereas the .45 is easier to compensate for as it's more of a 'push' than straight lift of the barrel. Maybe I say that due to a low bore axis of all the .45s I've had experience with (glock/1911/HK USP) but I know that a .357 sig likes to lift the end of a gun, big time, more so with one hand on it (no matter how strong or experienced you are) and the accuracy with the shield isn't thrown a bit! Bah, I say. I've never had the chance with a .50 AE (too expensive, someday) but I know a .454 casul is right up there with it and that thing'll put some hurt on you if you let it.
There are just so many problems with the shield, that I'm not divided at all. I say lose it - It'd take so much time to develop. Lets see a change of the guard in weaponry, I say. I'd like an improved UMP, I'd like to see the TMP dropped and the IMI Uzi added, lets see some options for larger clips (I on the civillian market can buy a 75-round drum for an AK-47) at extra cost, lets see different types of grenades, etc.
The shield is a waste of time, and frankly, not fit for the situation. Riot shields are for riots - No one makes a ballistic shield because of the sheer power of bullets - Its impossible to make something that'll stop a high powered rifle, and be lightweight enought for a man to run full tilt with it.
