So HL2 and Doom3 for the xbox. Yep, Sony is screwed right now.
Do I hear the murmuring from the engine of a tuned up skyline from Gran Turismo 4 ?

No matter if Half-Life2 is released on x-box, sony still owns its lame ass..........

Oh, i also hear the clicking of the screen from the PSP....

Sony is far from dead :)

        Im happy.

ALSO, as long as the Xbox doesnt have any extra features that the PC doesnt have.

is it gonna be just xbox? they need to make a ps2 version cus ps2 is awsome.
if a game producer makes a deal with a certain console, that's permanent. i think that they pay people to produce games for their console, im not sure though. that's why you rarely see the same game for 2 consoles

Actually, I think the majority of games are multi-platform. From the standard stuff, like Crash Bandicoot, right up to some of the big names, like Grand Theft Auto, exist on at least two consoles in one form or another. Ditto with virtually all sports games.

It is the deals companies make with console companies that make headlines, though. Sony's exlusive rights to Final Fantasy games, Gran Turismo, as well as their exclusive rights to GTA for something like a year before it can be ported over to XBox. Nintendo, of course, has exclusive rights to all Nintendo games, and Microsoft games all go to the XBox.

If multiplatform games aren't the majority in the industry, they're certainly a pretty significant minority.

To be honest Pharlap, I'm really too tired to read that right whole thing right now, but I read general tid bits of it :) (finish reading when I'm awake). But I guess, in the end, it really just matters what graphical medium you feel is necessary.

xlokix- Thats not entirely true. Remember what they had said about GTA3 and GTA VC? Like 7 months after they said it was PS2 exlusive they came out with an Xbox version.

You can't really argue about gaming cost with a cs gamer. Some of them pirated their copy, not to mention the game itself will run on any POS system made past 1998.

I personally don't like consoles, but that doesnt mean u cannot have fun on them imo. I loved playing Halo on the xbox system linked. Plus people with xbox may not have not have to get a new puter to play Hl2 at desent quality

there are many types of people that like to upgrade their computer frequently. i used to do that. but now i really cant be bothered any more, so i just buy the best i can afford, and make sure the hardware is set up correctly - so hopefully in the future i wont need to open the case for a few years. unless something breaks of course.

my computer would be considrered "shit" by any teen nerd out there who's life revolves around computers and virtual friends, but for me, like zero tolerance said, as long as it plays games at an acceptable level, then i really cant complain.

squeezing a few % extra performance out of a computer may be an interesting challenge, but it doesnt really interest me that much any more. as long as it does what i want it to do, im happy.

on a sidenote, i find it pathetic how many preboxed computers come with a pitiful 256mb RAM, even in this day and age, 256mb was what i had back in 1998. a year later it was 512mb, a year or so after that, 1gb. and i still felt it wasnt enough (damn you microsoft). i guess RAM chips are getting more and more expensive. especially those high speed DDR ones.

the computer industry is fuelled by money. as any other is im sure. but for computer companies, the lack of intimate knowledge of computers is what drives their sales higher and higher. people who think that price dictates performance are the types that the computer hardware industry aims for. a $500 video card ? pff, with a bit of tweaking im sure a sub $200 card will perform near as well as the one which probably costs more than your computer at present.

when people see huge numbers (9800XT, 5200, 3600 etc etc) they think, "big numbers = big performance". thats what hardware companies rely on. nothing could be further from the truth however. as a hardwrae engineer i know exactly what makes these components tick and what clever marketing tactics companies use. but people will just keep consuming and consuming regardless of what other "informed" individuals tell them. deep down inside they still think "big numbers and expensive prices = something worthy of it".

u say its a bad idea to buy ram more than once. what i do is buy the fastest RAM thats supported by the memory controller on the motherboard. buying anything faster will either result in instability or redundancy.

if you want the absolute best, then be prepared to pay (ie waste) a lot more. but if you have half a brain and any sense of money saving, then you would realise that buying something thats almost the best, but not THE best will save u a lot.

its like getting a porsche vs a BMW. a BMW will do almost the same as a porsche (get you from A->B), but slightly less quickly.

im being simple, im no car geek, but hope u understand the analogy.

all PCs perform the EXACT same funtions. except some do it faster than others. sometimes this increase in speed isnt justified by forking out such extortionate amounts of money ($500 for a gamers video card rolf). of course bloatware and artificial slowdown of software does prompt people to buy faster hardware - software and hardware companies are very closely linked in the way they help each other to achieve better sales.

good example is MS office. how many CDs does office 2004 take up now? is it something like 3? or maybe its one DVD. for what? exactly the same programs that were first introduced like 10 years ago? rediculous.
*clap* *clap* *clap* once again, well said.

if you already have a computer (of pretty much any caliber), building a more-than-sufficient gaming box should cost you no more than $400-$500 for everything you need. that box should then be able to last for at least a few years (as i said before, ive had mine for over three years now, and it sill works fine with the latest games), if not longer. one simply needs to know where to look and what to buy.

i realize im beating a dead horse here, but i guess the point of all of this (in my mind) is to perhaps awaken some eyes of die-hard console users to the possibilities of the PC world, which can and will save someone money in the long run. besides that, PCs simply do so much more than consoles. its a win/win situation.

just to clarify, i dont think there is anything wrong with consoles and/or the games that are available to them, per se. nor do i believe releasing games on multiple platforms is wrong. i just believe gaming on a PC saves money (in the long run), and allows for a much better (and broader) gaming experience.

Absolutely, there's nothing wrong with consoles, though I prefer to own both a console and a PC.

I have to disagree with you on one point; I think the broader gaming experience comes with consoles. PCs have a fairly narrow (mainstream) game base that's more or less restricted to FPS/RTS/sim. A lot of those that don't fit the mold are console ports, like GTA3.

This should probably be in the forum ... but can someone/some people make a list of online sites that sell computer parts (ex. tigerdirect.com). and email it to despisedpeople@hotmail.com. I'm looking into building a new one, and yes. It's for HL2.

2.5ghz, 512mb ram, 75gig hdd, SBLive 5.1, MX500 mouse, shit keyboard, and 2 17"(16 viewable). will run HL2 just fine ... but why not go all out? Price? "No need"? Damn right no need, but there's no need to have more than 3 cylinders in a car if it will do the speed limit and runs. Did I mention I go off topic a lot? btw...anyone know a good multi-monitor program?

Pricewatch is a good starting point to search online hardware companies.

Anyway, I've never paid money for games. Or hardware, for that matter. I steal my computers from the local Circuit City by saying "hey, look at that TV over there!" and walking out, new 64" plasma display tucked under my coat. I guess at CD-keys for hours until I get one right, because I have nothing else to do. I also steal all my food from WinCo, live in the shed behind my parents' house, and pirate my electricity from the neighbors' hot tub extension cord. After all, who should have to pay for anything?

Okay, so all stupidity aside, I really don't know why people debate this stuff. If the console version is good enough for you, then hey, that's fine. If not, whether you spend enormous amounts of money on top of the line hardware or not, the important matter is just finding the level of performance that you can both afford and be satisfied with.

Whether that involves buying $500 video cards or sticking with your old XBOX doesn't really matter. It's your system, not ours -- do with it as you like.

I'd like to know a place to get good deals on Graphics cards. My Radeon 9700 Pro has trouble playing alot of the newer games on medium detail; getting pretty rusty. Here is my system by the way: Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB PC3200 DDR400 Corsair, SB Audigy X-gamer, 80GB SATA 7200RPM, Radeon 9700 Pro, Raidmax 420 watt PS, K8T-FIS2R Neo MB. SB Audigy X-gamer is going to shit too.

Well I don't know places per se, but for a cheap alternative to the newer ATI cards, I've read that the Sapphire Radeons are virtually identical, with a different sticker slapped on 'em, and they run a great deal cheaper than the ATI brand in some places.

Also, I'm hoping that prices on the 9800 xt are about to drop, once the x800 xt is realeased.
