Xbox to receive "Near Perfect Port" of HL2

From Computer and Videogames.com comes word that the Xbox port of Half-Life 2 will be nearly identical to its PC counterpart. Valve says that the only thing it will be lacking in will be the graphics. Be sure to give the short article a read.

some FPS on consoles were really good (goldeneye anyone?). I think this is good for all of the people out there with outdated PCs. Nice job Valve.

If they can get the controls down as well as Halo, they're fine.

By "near perfect" I'm presuming they mean crappier graphics and gameplay and sound.

Shit, HL2 was supposed to be a big win for PC gaming, but now that its on a console the impact on PC gaming wont be as big.

You'de be surprised. If they're putting it on Xbox, then you can bet any anount of money that it'll have Halo's control scheme. Halo controled very well, better than most PC fps games, really. I'm not really worried about the graphics and sound. I think the Xbox hardware can more than hold its own.

Great for XBox owners I suppose.

I guess I'll stick with Timesplitters on my PS2, which is still very good, but still...

If Halo 2 blows it, Xbox is seriously fucked. But hey theres Half-Life 2 to save its ass.

If there were any consoles out that had good games and very good online support, I think I'd buy one. PC's are so unbelievably expensive and can be (and usually are) a monstrous pain in the butt, due to hardware incompatibility problems, incorrect setup, hardware manufacturer's never-ending assumption that you know exactly what they're talking about/refering to in the instructions/manual(s), and the list goes on and on. It's really nothing that I'd like to deal with (Don't reply to me saying "What hassle? I takes under an *insert belittled exageration* hour to setup a PC correctly." This may be true for you, but not everybody has extensive knowledge of PC's or cares to learn it. From my observations, your "Average-Joe" gives up quite quickly, and I dont blame them.)

If only some company would create a PC/Console-hybrid that supported most of the main, great functions of PC's (mouse/keyboard support, extensive online support--IE: online-browsing--, etc etc) and maintained the easy, quick, and painless setting up and maintaining of consoles, I think I'd buy it. As much as I hate having to unendingly dish out a hundred dollars here, and another hundred dollars there just to make games somewhat playable, I simply can't play on a gaming platform that doesn't support the great features the PC has that I've grown so attoned to. Just my thoughts. The rumours of the PS3 sound promising, but they're just rumours. We'll just have to wait and see I guess...

I think that's what the next Microsoft console's gonna be. Some sort of XMA technology or something...

So HL2 and Doom3 for the xbox. Yep, Sony is screwed right now.
