Calm down now. No need to get angry.

    PS: Thought of another problem:

When's the last time you heard of VAC being updated?

So i dont know if anyone posted this already, but, less recoil = more spray and pray? more runnign around quickly with fast switching and bunny hopping = Tacops? right? CS is cs tactical team based shooter, not quake. or tacops or anyother crappy fragemup. Get the aiming on VC or farcry, now u to realism, and difficulty, adn o yes, LOADS of recoil... If any thing there should be a hi port button for iron sight aiming for everyweaponw hich should slo the game down furtehradn increase realism and skill. but hey soem people just wants fast paced fragging.

Does anyone else find it funny that so many people claim CS is dying, yet are not able to provide any numbers to back that claim up?

Considering the number of people I've introduced (and gotten hooked) to Counter-Strike in the past year, I honestly have not seen any reason to believe that CS is dying. Heck, even our stupid April Fools joke showed that a lot of people around here weren't here last year when we did more or less the same thing last year, and the year before. That doesn't imply to you that more people are coming into the CS community? Yes, some old timers have quit, but they're being replaced by new blood.

For all the main guns used in pro leagues, the first shot is always dead accurate, if you're standing still.

I guess the "randomness" issue is what I want to comment on. I can't help but find it strangely ironic that someone claiming to be a "pro" with "good aim" is complaining about the recoil that CS1.6 has.

          "Why is that, Nighthawk?"

Sure, I enjoyed bunnyhopping like an idiot in pre-1.4 versions of CS, toting my deagle and blasting people to pieces easily. But you know what? That really wasn't all that hard to do, because all I had to do was point somewhere basically at their body, hit the trigger a few times, and they were gonners.

When I busted out my assault rifle, why not fire in full auto mode? Just point in the general direction of all the enemies, hold down the trigger, and watch them drop! How skilled is that, really?

Now, I have to be a lot more careful where I place my shots. I know that when I go full auto, my accuracy is going to hell faster than rizzuh downs a $0.99 cheeseburger. No, I can't just point over that way and count on sheer numbers of bullets to kill my enemy.

Now I have to make sure I line up my very first shots. I can't panic and let off a huge spray. I have to make those first 2-3 bullets count, and land every one of them where I want them, if I'm going to take my enemy down.

Skill you say? Increased recoil has made me focus on my aim a lot more than I ever had to in earlier versions. Sure, I can try full auto now, and pray for good luck from the sheer volume of bullets, but odds are the guy who lined up his crosshairs correctly before pulling the trigger is going to kill me first.

Placing your first shots where you want them is skill. Increased recoil didn't change that. If anything, it's more difficult now for a new player to kill an experienced one. Making hits and kills easier to get isn't more pro -- if anything it's less professional.

Pro mode? Certainly not. Sounds more like a last stand against the progression of CS to me, and that's not something I support.
Might have known you would have covered it in one!

Another thing which has made CS worse over the past year or so is because it has become too comercial. Counter-Strike is a great mod for Half-Life which is available for free download not a full scale tactical shooter which is available on console (how fucking rediculous was that). We also get this other package which we waited for a number of years and it ends up being nothing, yes you know what im talking about. What a big mistake valve made their. I can not stand these little valve fan boys who try to stick up for valve, what on earth are you going to gain from it? I wish they would just shut there little mouths. I welcome a mode where users can choose between CS 1.6 and a pro mode which plays like CS 1.3. Releasing a package that lets you play CS 1.3 on steam would be one of the best things to happen to CS in a long time (I pray that Valve release this because if not I will). I and many others still do not forgive valve for how they have changed the game since CS 1.4. I still today can't believe what they done when CS 1.4 was released. It was not in any way needed. Infact, the other day I installed CS 1.3 and it just made me realise what we are all missing.

I was just wondering if it would be possible for someone to convert CS 1.3 to Steam and make it a seperate mod so it would not effect CS 1.6 (similar to CS-Classic but CS 1.3). I was also wondering if Valve would allow someone to release this making it go to all the major CS news sites (again, like CS-Classic). Oh, i'll be praying.

Spoonman you are lacking a grasp of the game entirely.

Good clans will still win games, but in the old days a good player in a game vs a worse clan could go the whole game without dieing. Now that's extremely unlikely due to the random factor and other things mentioned previously.

When did you "transition from pub play to league play"? If it was after 1.3 I don't see how you can offer a qualified opinion.

Anyway, even if the pro-mode means those of us who want it can get a decent public game, that's accomplished enough as far as I'm concerned. I don't even play public anymore because the game has got so random and slow.

Stop manipulating what people say and come up with some points that actually make sense in their own right.

Oh and would people stop going on about bunny-hopping. The point is not to bring back bunnyhopping, this would be avoided, it's just to increase the pace of the game.

You've got it wrong. Bunny hoping and jumping are totaly different. Bunny hoping was a different kind of jump that allowed players to move faster. Bunny hoping was actually removed in CS 1.3 but you were still able to jump without slowdown. Even if you did jump you would not gain speed. But still, it was much nicer to jump when you wanted to without the crappy slow down which was introduced in 1.4. Bunny hoping was around in the beta stages and you could also do it in CS 1.1. So have I made that clear? You could not bunny hop in CS 1.3 but you were able to jump without the slow down. Bunny hoping and simple jumping in HL are 2 different things.

CS 1.3 was the perfect version, its a shame they had to carry on adding updates that no1 wanted.

The only thing seperating the best from everyone else in Counter-Strike is shear experience and the ability to know when to make "The Right Move" against your opponent.

Wow.. thats just retarded. THINK ABOUT IT. As in real life, any Joe Sixpack with a .22 can cap a real life SAS Agent in the back of the head.. Seriously, a gun is a _GUN_, it KILLS people.

                        Wait...

What's wrong with that? Does he want all the people who are less skilled than himself to *NEVER* get any kills? The game is frustrating as it is when you're not doing well. Now imagine not getting *ANY KILLS* whatsoever, as long as there is a person slightly better than you on the server...

Again, what he said makes no sense... If he said that, even.

Firstly, there's no such thing as an SAS "agent".

My main point is, you can out Joe Six Pack at one end of a field, and your "Agent" at the other end and hand each other a rifle, and the SAS man will kill the other EVERY time.

Ultimately, either viewpoint is mute though, since CS is a game, where fun should prevail over realism.

Technically the recoil isn't the issue here. Crouching and firing in bursts does allow you to control the recoil
try firing against a wall standing and crouching, the recoil is exactly the same. this is in "lan" mode and "net" mode. ie, cl_lw 1 and 0. you will see crouching has a negligible effect on lowering the recoil. but it does make u a sitting duck for that m4-sprayer.

                                WHAT?!

"Secondly, the "splitting of the community". Please. The community as it is now is not a seething united mass of gamers, it's not some highly organised like-minded hive. It is segregated by language, by country, by leagues, by skill levels, by forums and at the very heart of it by human nature."

what a load of crap. One of the greatest things about gaming is that it is not catered to specific groups, it applies to everyone. This applicability is what allows gamers to rise up and become a profressional in a first place. This kind of pro mode would discriminate and reduce the amount of competition for higher-level competitors.
