As far as generic racism, I strongly oppose. There is no reason to hate, or even dislike a person, because of what color his skin is.

There's a line, though. I was forced to go to a 'black' school in the 'ghetto', because I was an intelligent caucasian and they were doing a 'magnet' program where the 'best' school for me was there. In the public school system, this school in the 'ghetto' had to have a certain number of 'gifted' students, who 97% of the time were caucasian. It turned out to be (in the majority), the 'gifted' caucasians (and some blacks, too) with the 'other' students taking different classes, mostly blacks (and some caucasians, too, very few though).

It was almost as if there were two schools in the same building. The gifted students and the other students never had classes together, but they'd do things such as sports and pep rallies together.

But that's beside the point. A black person, I don't hate. But a black person who plays loud rap music, carries a gun, does drugs, and every third word that comes out of his mouth ISN'T profanity, that I hate. Of course, I'd also hate a white person who acted like that, and I do. I dislike Eminem as strongly as I do other rappers who use profanity in their 'songs'.

The problem comes when a group of people fit into the stereotype. At my school, nearly all the non-gifted blacks were alike. They'd wear their pants halfway down their thighs. Talk in slang, or at the very least not proper english "What you did?" And when 95% of the people acting this way have the same skin color, and 97% of the people that have this skin color are acting that way....

It's very hard to realize that the skin color isn't causing (or even directly related to) this behavior. It's the culture that is there. The reason they all have the same skin color and same culture is because they are semi-segregated by skin color, and so their culture will form separately from the other skin color's.

And there are certain things about black culture that I don't like. Does that make me racist?

Heh, I like the part in Bigger and Blacker where Chris Rock says something like, "You always see white people complaining about reverse racism and how they're losing. Well if they're losing, who the hell is winning? It sure isn't us!"

As in all racist discussions you always have someone say, "I don't mind racist terms as long as they aren't intended to be hateful, calling a friend a fag in jest shouldn't be such a problem." Chalk me up for that one. I don't know why I got suckered into posting this, there are a few opinions and everyone has those few, nothing new. The sides are so well established, what's the point is saying the obvious again?

In jest? I, for one, never like veiled insults, even 'in jest'. (This dislike causes me to not have that many friends, actually.)

Calling someone stupid, fat, slow, a fag, a n*****, a jew, whatever. And laughing while you do it. As if it's okay. As if it doesn't matter.

I strongly disapprove of that. All that does is wear you down. A part of you might say "oh it's just a joke, just laugh at it." But it's repetition.

If you hear something enough, if you think something enough, you believe it to be true, whether it actually is or not. It might not even be logical, but you'll still believe it, simply because you heard it so much. In fact, repetition is the number one cause for why depressed people stay depressed, or why people with low self-confidence stay that way. When someone says they're good-looking, they'll say "no I'm not". The positive repitition (the compliment) is negated by the automatic negative response. And they hear the negative so much (in their own voice) that they fully believe it and continue to spread it.

And that's when people are saying positive things. When people say negative things to you, it only does it all the stronger, especially if you neither negate it with a positive, and ultimately if you joke about yourself too "yeah, I'm a stupid ugly fag, right? lol", eventually it'll stop feeling like jokes to you.

People fail to realize how important words are. Words are how we communicate. If you are giving an insult with your words, but your tone of voice is laughter, then in that person's mind, that's one little step towards "it's okay to be insulted", and eventually enough joking around, and they'll think it's okay to be insulted even when you're not joking. And then they'll believe the insults are true.

No. The only solution is to never, ever insult someone, even in jest. Make the world a better place. I of course don't follow by this rule 100% of the time, nobody's perfect, and when some idiot comes along and says something stupid I have a tendency to take him apart, out of frustration at the stupidity and ignorance of the world. But whether in jest, in anger, in frustration, or in genuine hatred, insults should stay unspoken and unwritten.

It's really the only proper way to live.

I believe that most morons who make racist comments are idiots just looking to get attention. These are kids who want to act tough when in actuality they are just kids. It pisses me off so much when I hear racist jokes and morons responds with additional racists comments. Its like when one guy starts others follow. How can we grow as a community when there are so many assholes acting like they are better than anyone else?

Racism is a very touchy subject, because tit is different for different people. For example, you may call someone a certain word, and they could ignore it, while if you said the same thing to the president of the NAACP, he'd be highly offended. Racism is the sort of thing, like violence, that is just part of human nature. You can't stop it, just slow it down.

I mean, if you let a word slip out, I'm sure you won't be put to death row, but once you scream out something like "IM GONNA PUT A BURNING CROSS ON YOUR LAWN," or something to that effect, that just crossed the thin line of what is acceptable and what isn't.

Yeah, the power of words is shocking. But just remember, they're only words, right? It doesnt matter; however, I'm seeing more and more people being offended by words! Has the world gone mentally weak? I sure think so.

Well, humans are humans, and racism is here to stay, along with violence, drugs, and sadomasochism.

Such a cynical perspective of life.

It's increasingly hard to play a game of CS without a racist comment, or any harsh comment in general.

But I don't really let it bother me. Unless I am banned for being too good or I see someone hacking, I just mute everyone else and keep playing. But I must say, these comments are usually made from an un-educated pre pubescent. People turn into racists the second they get on the internet because it provides them anonymity, when in the real world they wouldn't dare say these things to your face. So I act like I do in real life on the internet, so people see the real person, not the racist 12 year olds so many people are.

Well Dave Chapelle's show is joking, you never hear it in a "very" hateful tone and know he joking (he's on a comdy stage), but when people call you names (such as N-word or something) on the street or workplace, you hear it in a hateful tone and bash on you (Also some annoying things like poking crap).

Overall, This article it is most parts true... and need to be readied by all to gain a understanding about racism and how big it really is.

If hes refering to a comment like "nigga" well, you need to take a chill pill cause that word is about as common as "fuck" and holds the same meaning nowadays.

but certain communities thinks it does. so they go on not trusting police, and hating the police, but that only tells me, that the hatred for police is just a cover up to hate whites.

I totally disagree. What about those cops that beat that huge black man? I forget where, but he died later. Not from any injurie, but from an enlarged heart, and drug overdose. But no, it was the bad old white cops who beat him to death. The black man was calling them honkys as he attacked them. So there is evil on both sides.

I like to make racial jokes (on every color :-P) just because most of them are funny. One thing that upsets me, the word nigger, is so offensive. YET, they call themselves dogs? What gives? I don't call them black because I'm racist, I call them black because that's the color of their skin. I'm white, they're black, others are different. Doesn't make a difference to me, but if you ever call someone a, "black man" most of the time you'll get called a racist. Why? For saying what he is? I'm a white man.

To sum up everything I just said, don't get so upset because someone makes a racial remark. I hate it when people blaspheme gods name, and use the *F* word (as it's known), but I don't write a huge artical on it or anything like that. I just mute them and ignore them, and you guys should do the same.
