Counter-Strike and Racism

UKTerrorist has released a great and insightful article on the important issue of racism found within the Counter-Strike community. Despite the article, also written by an anonymous author, being intended for the UK crowd, this great read should apply to all communities everywhere.

I myself enjoyed Counter-Strike because it gave me the experience to talk to people who I don't know what they look like, where they come from and who they are with. Hopping onto a CS server with all your friends or clan, not knowing their skin colour and just playing the game with the person because you enjoy their company. Now I find it harder and harder to enjoy knowing that when a racist joke is being said I have to act quick in trying to stop this from going any further, simply because I don't like seeing my friends being at the end of these sad peoples jokes.

Agreed.

I despise racism of any form, and every time a racist comment is said on any server I play on, I tell them to shut the fuck up.

Then I AWP them in the face.

very good article. I think everyone should read this and take it to heart. Racism is everywhere and we need to stop it. It is a federal offence in the USA. I think it should be everywhere and everyone who does it should be fined and put in jail. This really needs to stop.

that line right there shows that you should not care about or even bother with it. ignoring things just makes it go away(if you are the target of course). if its random jokes, thats another story.

Lol. I actually enjoy it when people call me Kracker, Honky, etcetc. I find it funny. That's one reason I LOVE Dave Chapelle's show. It doesn't matter what color you are, you'll be made fun of on his show lol. I love how he shows what the black are like (in an exagerated form of course) and same with the whites. Just learn to take a joke.



Now it's a different matter when they actually start threatening you, but when they're just joking around or w/e, it's funny. I got friends who make racist remarks (about all colors I'll have you know :-P) they're just joking around. Just chill out.

his joking is the same as the others. i don think you see it that way because if you really look at it, ethnic minorities can claim racism anytime while whites cannot and that happens a lot where i live, ppl are "racist" when they do something they dont LIKE, not what offends them. and another thing that bothers me is the whole cops/black "conflict". in my area of the world, it basically doesnt exist. but certain communities thinks it does. so they go on not trusting police, and hating the police, but that only tells me, that the hatred for police is just a cover up to hate whites. thus racism in itself. and to think that all cops are bad, is a stereotype, so in the end they are just doing what they claim other ppl are doing.

getting rid of racism is impossible, it's like telling someone they aren't allowed to hate sprouts anymore. An opinion is valid, but I agree it's a bit extreme to insult people for their colour. Also I think people focus to much on 'White people vurses the world' racism to notice the reverse racism that goes on.

Coming down on anyone for race, religion or sexual preference shows a lack of education. If it's ignored than these people won't know it's wrong, they need to learn that every hurt accumulates.... you may shrug it off once or even three hundred times, but when (for example) you repeat to yourself "I'm a dummy" 300 times a day for a week, you will begin to feel it's true. It is a fact that repitition affects the mind, and it can either be positively or negatively. Focus on your game, instead of trying to call people names because they're better at CS than you, or suck for that matter.



Actual rascists, the swastika wearing, dixie-flag waving, beer-swilling truck dudes you see in the country here in North America are a good example of people who've never bothered to educate themselves, they'd rather learn everything from TV.

You should really take a Stereotypes & Prejudice class. It's hard understanding how one little comment would hurt when you dont have to deal with the "one little" comments your entire life. You're ignorant - don't be willfully so.



Just because it's a game dosent mean you get to call people nigger, fag, or Jew-boy and it's ok. Contrary to popular opinion, words do hurt.
