I happen to own a LAN center, here in the Philippines. (The guy who posted # 7 should pay us a visit...we actually charge Php 25 per hour for online CS (about 50cents US).

If the UK incident trickles down to our little shack, we might just close down...after paying $50 per terminal for games and making less than $5 per terminal a day (on peak seasons, mind you), such a move by VALVe might just put us out of business. Such things as corporate licensing and crap like that aren't things we here from the capitalist leeches around here. Hey we wanna go legal, but isn't making more money out of a 4+ year-old game that was initially offered as a FREE DOWNLOADABLE MOD? come on.

Here in our country, a mere 5% of the population actually own computers in their homes, so we are their only link to the gaming world...it's sad that some people can only think about money...

No cheezy, this is a new method of paying for the license. Licencing for lan centers until now while supposedly required, was not that well inforced. Valve is moving to start enforcing it and using steam to do so. As for the 30 license for a 100 machines, you could do that. If somone wants to play they have to get the login from the desk that is next available, if 30 users are playing on steam then the other 70 machines are unavailable. This has also been an option with lan administration software packages(some not all).

As for those prices, those are not realistic. Mathmatically unless that place had a massive amount of computers or they were not running legally at all, which is likely, they could not pay their own bills and employees let alone licensing and repairs. Alot of those centers start low to draw customers, then raise to "real" prices or fail quickly.

Rizzuh makes money off this site, Valve makes money off LAN, vivendi makes money of Valve's games, we get entertainment off the games.

Its a big giant money circle of gaming industry!

yea created by a mod team that sold CS to valve, valve didn't make CS and release it for free. On a second thought of this license deal, wouldn't steam close down on that since you are just using the computer itself, steam is free to use and you would be logging in with your own password and downloading the game.

Hole for what? A big pile of money they're going to make from future CS products and Half-Life 2? Because for every single one of you that bash Valve, there are 500 to 1000 people that either don't give a rats ass, because they actually enjoy playing CS and other Valve games, and/or respect Valve and buy their products.

I think the difference between Valve and others who charge too is the price. For a average LAN (40 boxes), the price is $4800 per month. Blizzard and Id charge around $1500 per month, *unlimited* machines.

I still prefer the LANs only having to buy one time...

Anyways, Valve probably thanks everyday the team who made CS.... HL would be dead for a long time without it....

Max Payne 2 is godly. It's just like the first with better graphics, physics, etc. Gameply is pretty much the same. Sadly, no multiplayer. =(

Even though you may know quite much about licensing information, it wouldn't be appropriate to make such comment if you don't own a LAN center. For one, Agentx44 is running a LAN center in the philippines, and the cost of living there is totally different than the cost of living in the US...

#55 has a point. 10 bucks per month per machine is pretty high. I think valve has every right to give lancenters a different liscense, but that mentioned price is way out there. Hopefully they will lower it a bit to something more reasonable for all involved. In the wash.dc area, pretty much every lancenter has gone out of buisness for various reasons. This certainly wont help.
