    The End?

According to iGames UK, VALVe will start charging LAN centers, that have already paid for copies of Counter-Strike, to pay for a license fee in order to allow them to use their software titles, which includes CS. As this comes from a UK source, it is up in the air if this will affect LAN centers here in the United States.
Valve have recently released details of LAN gaming centres having to pay a license fee for their titles, including Counter-Strike. Gaming centres have already bought Half Life and Counterstike for each of their PCs, but now Valve want centres to pay thousands of pounds in additional fees.

You know, I had planned to buy HL2 as soon as it came out.

    That plan is over.

oh well, doesn't mean any less lan centers would have CS anyways.

Valve has always had a license fee for their games...its like $10 per machine per month or something.

Apparently it's in the EULA that HL and its mods can't be used for profit, and has been mentioned on the Steam website, so it shouldn't really be a shocking revelation.

iGames UK dropped CS for leagues and tournaments in favor for Halo. Considering the amount of people who play CS worldwide, I don't see many more other organizations dropping CS.

Well, it certainly doesn't PROMOTE CS in centers.

I think that was a bad move by valve.

This most likely means a rate increase at lan centers! nooooo my $4 >>>> $5!

All i have to say is that VALVe seems to be more intent on filling their pockets with cash now than sustaining the popularity of this great HL mod into the future.

Although this isn't that big of a deal, it certainly comes at a bad time. =/ With all the people still peeved about the issues with steam last night, this just gives them another reason to scream at Valve.

Until this is proven true by VALVe themselves, I wouldn't go anywhere with it. Although if it is true, I completely agree with #8

Meh, I'm just suprised it didn't happen sooner. I don't think this will have that much of an effect on CS as a whole.
