Yeah, I can prove you wrong. You buy HL2 with a CD key just the same as you did with HL1. Why would you need to go online to verify it?



Going by your claim, people without internet connections wouldn't be able to play Half Life 2. Do you see why that proves you are wrong?

Here is some advice in knowing that your game is fully updated: When you start connecting to the game, the Cancel Button becomes grayed out and unselectable. Also the tab "Always keep this game up to date" will change.
